As a Wyoming native, I'm glad the Jackalope got a shoutout. Jackalopes are very special (mythical) animals. Only the males have antlers, which gives them the libido of stags in rut. During the mating season (January through December), they will engage in displays of strength and daring, charging each other or anything else they see in order to impress the females (who can be distinguished from normal rabbit females because they watch the males out of the corner of their eyes). They have been known to charge bison, who get out of the way because they fill sorry for the little critters. Jackalope meat is inedible, and killing them supposedly brings a curse, so if you encounter one in the wild and it charges you, the best reaction is simply to imitate the bison and get out of the way. It won't care if it misses; it has done its duty, and will immediately try to find a female who might have been impressed by its daring. (And if you missed it, yes, it's not a real animal, but it's a hilariously wonderful mythical story)
Same for Snipe in Missouri. Nothing like a good Snipe hunt in the middle of Summer. It's a right of passage on camping trips. All you have to do is find a good long stick, and hit the ground around evening time. Best if you can find small holes in the ground since that is their favorite hiding place. Snipe are a unique animal similar to a small weasel with bird legs. Very fast, almost too quick to see with the human eye. They make a weird noise when they leave their hole. They also have sharp teeth so wear gloves, and bring a burlap sack as well. LOL
I am almost 62 y/o and still get chills and am in COMPLETE AWE when I see a Bald Eagle in the wild. I feel blessed every. Single. Time. I live in Missouri and see them often down towards Madison County.
@@vangu2918 Yeah, I was gonna say that it's not the smell I mind so much as the burning of the eyes. Drove by a dead skunk the other day, of course the smell got into the car. Got out of my car about twenty minutes later, got back in five minutes later, could still smell lingering skunk. That happened all day until I could get some spray air freshener. It's nasty and it's pervasive. Edit for spelling.
@@vangu2918 if you get the real full on stench, it makes you throw up and takes several days of washing before it fades away. Your dogs will also likely throw up especially they actually bother to defend you from the skunk.
The O in "opossum" is not actually silent, people just call them possums for short. To add to the confusion, there are distantly related animals in Australia called "possums" (named after the opossum... without the O).
There's a family of bald eagles that have made their home in the park I go walking in. It's strange because I live in a city and when the eagles moved in all the other large birds I regularly saw (hawks and owls) moved out.
I was driving in Washington state and saw a bald eagle attacking a crow in the air right over the freeway. Also if you’re in Souther California you know that you never let your small dogs alone in your backyard because the coyotes are just waiting for a quick meal.
Racoons also known as trash pandas, also known as long nosed cats, can in fact be very dangerous. They wont just run up and kick your shins in, but but you mess with one they can be very nasty.
I've been up close with a Bald Eagle at a Wild Bird Sanctuary (they take care of injured birds of prey and then release them back into the wild once their healed). I learned that Bald Eagles sound like giant parakeets.
It's not a raccoon Mario wears, it's a Tanuki suit. In the rare occasion someone keeps a skunk as a pet it's either male because only the females spray, or if it's female they get it deskunked by surgically removing the gland responsible. Cayotes are skittish creatures so are not dangerous by themselves, but a pack of cayotes is dangerous because they are braver as a group.
Opossums and possums are indeed different animals. Opossums live in North America, while possums live in Australia and other countries. Both animals are marsupials , but possums are more closely related to kangaroos. Possum belong to the family of Phalangeridae while the Opossum belong to the family of Didelphidae. The diet of the opossum is eating dead things and plants while possum is eating fruits, leaves, and plants Opossum are smaller in size while possum are large Possum tend to be longer while opossum are shorter in terms of length
If opossum are smaller in size then I'd like to see one size XL possum, as a year or two ago I thought I saw a large cat waddling through my yard out of the corner of my eye. On actually looking I discovered it was an/a opossum roughly the size and shape of a rugby ball...
I never saw an opossum until I lived in California, man they are ugly. They used to shuffle across the back fence of my house at night and they gave me the creeps. I was told they are beneficial to the habitat but they’re nasty looking creatures!
You asked about the size of Bald Eagles, having been involved in a rescue of a wounded one, and getting to see it up close and personal, they are HUGE. (108 cm in length and have a wingspan of 2.5 meters)
I think Laurence has done other interesting videos on animals also. The proper name is opossum, but I don't know anyone who says that. Most people just say 'possum. All of these animals, even the deer, can be dangerous if they feel threatened and it is best to leave them alone and appreciate them with some distance. Most of them will generally avoid people. Raccoons are cute but can be aggressive. You can smell a skunk around your house even when the windows and doors are closed and it just kind of hangs in your nose and makes your eyes water. You can smell it within a surprisingly large radius, and if sprayed, it's hard to get the smell out.
You can not imagine a skunk smell. You have to smell it to understand. It is almost unbreathable and you can’t get it off if the spray makes contact with you, your car, your dog etc. We just call them possum but our possums are not the same as the cute ones found elsewhere. My husband and I raised one when we were in high school after he ran over the mother taking me home from a date 😳 We have bald eagles in Oklahoma where I live. They nest along the Arkansas river and the Keystone Dam.
They used to be pretty rare, but they made a very strong comeback since then. You can see them all along the Hudson River. They have been known to catch and eat cats and small dogs too, so not everyone loves them.
People say skunks smell like rotten eggs but tbh when driving on the highway and there’s a dead skunk near by all I smell is weed lmao. Like the dankiest earthy weed you have smelled.
I used to live in Ohio suburbs and we would smell skunk all the time. Now I live in Baltimore- like in the city, and occasionally I think, why am I smelling skunk? oh, it's just someone's weed.
Eagles are pretty large, I remember one was sitting on our dock by the pond. I got closer because we usually didn't see them up close. It was easily the size of my torso (I'm 5'1) or bigger. It quickly flew away when I got closer but it shocked me that it was so big! This was in Florida btw
There are two families of groundhogs that live next to our marching band practice field and I love watching them when the trumpets have to rep their music over and over and over again for half an hour and the rest of us have to stand there fingering through our music
The opossum is North America's only marsupial. It is frequently just called a possum, with the o dropped for some reason. There is a marsupial in Australia that is also often called a possum colloquially, because of its slight resemblance to the opossum.
6:08 Mario's raccoon suit is not a raccoon, it's a raccoon dog. Which is neither a raccoon nor a dog. Known as a Tanuki in Japanese folklore, it is supposedly a shapeshifting creature.
Are you dim? A raccoon dog is a real, native animal of East Asia hahahaha not a shapeshifter. Wherever you’re getting your information you should find it somewhere else
Some of the animals you found on your UK list are found in Scotland and near the North Sea and remote parts of the UK. The others are introduced species that were accidentally or intentionally released.
Luka, Skunk smells like Marijuana, or so I was told. But then moved in with a roommate that smoked the stuff and can confirm they smell about the same, but I think Skunk is a bit worse.
I'm sure it's been mentioned somewhere already, but skunks don't smell unless they're actively spraying. Out in rural Ohio, you'll usually smell them a couple of times per year. When I was a teenager, I was walking through the field behind my house and suddenly I noticed a skunk about ten feet (3.3m) in front of me. It's probably the fastest I've ever come to a halt, and although it didn't seem all that threatened by me, I still went way around it. If they spray you, it's a helluva chore getting rid of the smell. You can't just hop in the shower like normal. I also encountered one as I was sitting on the porch steps one night. It came sauntering by the bottom of the stairs, rooting around in the grass for grubs. (they smell them in the ground and dig 'em up apparently) I carefully went back inside. I guess they only have a limited number of sprays before they can't do it anymore. Fortunately, the worst threat a skunk presents is an awful bad smell.
Since you have been reacting to American Wild Life it would be fun to see you react to the newest video by Chandler’s Wild Life called “Catching Crocodiles!” since it is informative and would be fun to see you react to the crazy things they do.
A friend on the neighboring farm saw one of her cats carried away by a bald eagle. Those suckers are huge. I knew a wildlife rehabber who had one that was injured and couldn't fly. He'd toss it a frozen roast and it would tear chunks off without waiting for it to thaw. Talons the size of your fist. Skunk smell can be detected literally for miles if the wind is right. There's nothing else that smells quite like it.
No raccoos don't become statues in Japan also the suit is based on the mythological creature called the tanooki often depicted in statues its only called the racoon suit in localized editions

We have a coyote running in the woods on our place that joins the back of 5 other homes out here. We all have a minimum of ten acres. All of us have dogs in fences and when the coyote passes one group of dogs they start up, getting all the dogs in our valley going. Nice video.
It's a dramatic story, like the Battle of Britain, where the fate of the world was in play. Luck, like the lost recon pilot who stumbled across the Japanese fleet on the way to the American Midway lsland naval base alerting the U.S. to the impending attack, sometimes determines the course of history.
Raccoons are super curious and smart. They have pads on the side of their paws that they can use like opposable thumbs, so they can get into anything, open doors, turn knobs, open chests and coolers, unlatch gates and garbage bins. They are extremely cute and basically very friendly, except occasionally their attitude can switch quickly, especially with much older raccoons, or if you surprise them. And they live communally, so rabies is a problem as well. They like to wash their hands and their food before they eat. Generally, they keep their distance, but get curious about people sometimes.
Can be. In many parts of the U.S., opossum and possum refer to the same animal. There’s another marsupial in Australia that looks a bit like the Virginia Opossum so it’s called a possum sometimes, but that species is more closely related to other Australian marsupials unsurprisingly.
It comes from the French word poule, which means chicken..but it’s weird because polecats are actually different animals. They’re called that because they eat chickens.
@@KittenUndercover the polecat was a European animal and the name was then applied to by some English settlers to the skunk because of their similar habits (skunks will raid chicken coops); others adopted the Native American word.
I’ve had a raccoon as a pet as did my father when he was a kid, my mother had one up until a few years ago, and my sister also had one she kept as a pet. 😂😂 We’ve had many unusual pets. From snapping turtles to hummingbirds. Anyone that keeps a skunk without having stink glands removed is either a better person than I, or just crazier. 🤣
The list you searched up was rare animals that can be found in the UK, venomous snakes definitely exist here in the US. But you probably figured that out already
I live in Central Florida and I've seen two bald eagles. Once my friends and I were on my patio and we saw one glide past behind my pool screen. The other time I was driving to a doctor's appointment and on a back country road and as I rounded a corner, the eagle was sitting in the road pecking at road kill. Luckly it saw me coming and glided away before I got there. It would have been horrific to have hit it!
I used to live in Coeur d'Alene Idaho. The bald eagle migration is beautiful. No, they aren't tame. They are a raptor. You can train them just like any other raptor, but I think just watching them be wild is amazing! Another great video Lav!
0:53 Hippos *were* only in Africa. But fun fact: there is a small population in Columbia, imported from Africa by none other that cocaine drug lord, Pablo Escobar. The population is made of the descendants of his exotic pets, basically.
There are indeed another similar animal called “possum” which are found in Australia, NZ & China.. Oppssum/possum are interchangeable here in US in spelling and pronunciation. They’re like the only marsupial in North America that I know of (though opossums are in South America as well) One distinction between Possums and Opossums is that Possums have a furry tail, while Opossums have a smooth tail They are actually very smart and sweet animals, and they help our ecosystem a lot- they eat thousands upon thousands of ticks per year!
We just call them Possums usually here in USA, at least where I am from Virginia (East Coast). They are actually really great animals and are the only marsupial in the USA! The species has stuck around for millions of years. They have a super short life span, and can birth up to 20 babies but with only room for 13. But they give birth several times a year. The biggest threat to them is humans, especially ones in cars. Watch the roads folks, and brake for critters! Much love to you LavLuka.
I live in Coeur d' Alene (where he saw the Bald Eagles) and there are a lot of them here. If you come at the right time, I think November-ish, there is a trail next to the lake and you can see dozens of Bald Eagles. I went fishing recently and I saw two of them fighting over the lake.
8:02 SKUNKS! Born and raised in Brooklyn, NYC. I have seen skunks as a NYC National Guard member, when I went upstate during my weekend drills. When I saw the skunks, I made an "about face" and went the opposite direction, lmao! I have never been unfortunate enough to smell a skunk, nor do I EVER want to, LMAO!
We have a mating pair of Bald Eagle directly across the river from our property and we love to watch them hunt in the river. They are so big and strong that it just amazes me every time they snag a salmon and fly it back to their nest.
I'm dying with the jackalope! We actually had to make up a hybrid animal for one of my science classes in high school and give it habitat and explain it's physical attributes and I came up with a jackadillo. Which was a jackalope and armadillo mixed! Armadillos and platypus are my favourite animals. Please keep reacting to animal videos! Maybe even one about weird pets Americans have!
Growing up, the Bald Eagle was always on the Endangered Species list. Then, in 2008, I was on a family trip to Disney World's Animal Kingdom. We stopped to see the Flights of Fancy (bird show) and were in the front row. I am a US Navy vet and have always been very proud of our military and the symbol of America (the bald eagle). At the end of the bird show, a lady came out with a bald eagle on her arm, one that had been rescued with a broken wing and they were healing. It was the most beautiful bird I'd ever seen. Then she mentioned that the bald eagle was moved from the endangered species list to a watch list, meaning more were out there. I started crying. My group knew how much that meant to me and were all smiling at the news, even the 10 year old with us seemed to understand. Mom alter got me a bald eagle plushy to celebrate. This may not have impacted others the same way, but this was a proud moment in conservationism. If we can do that as a world, we can save so many other species that man endangered.
We have wild skunks in my neighborhood. Sometimes they spray other stray animals (or people), and the smell lingers for a while; it isn't pleasant, but it's not the worst thing in the world - it just smells like a skunk.
Raccoons, Opossums, and Skunks make playful pets but they tend to get into everything, and pet skunks usually have their scent glands removed, surgically.
Bald eagles winter here in Arkansas, and yes, it is most common to see them around water. A couple of miles from here on the edge of town there’s road signs-near a river-asking people to please not park on the shoulder of the road to view the bald eagles. They have a popular recurring nesting spot there and people were causing a traffic hazard.
I once heard a person on Reddit, who said they were a climatologist for NASA, jokingly say that the groundhog was probably more accurate than any scientific weather prediction we have today.
I saw a bald eagle last year out at my parents house about 75 KM southwest of Chicago. It’s the only time I’ve ever seen a wild one in northern Illinois. I’ve been seeing them more and more out west and also in Appalachia over the recent years.
I grew up in the wild west surrounded by skunk, racoon, prairie dogs, well, nearly everything on this list. Now I live in Alaska where we don't have the little varmints like skunk and coon, but we do have wolves, coyotes, bald eagles, moose and all 3 species of bear.
Bald eagles are huge and powerful. They usually hunt fish, but have been known to fly off with small animals such as snakes, rabbits, cats, dogs, and even lambs. Here in Maine, they are quite populous along the many rivers and streams.
There are two nesting pairs of bald eagles that live right at the dock I work at. And the mule deer are all over town. They're like communal pets here.
There are a lot of animals one runs into in unexpected places. Like the wild kangaroos of Wisconsin - several caged kangaroos escaped from a circus train about 100 years ago, & found homes in the wilds of the US. Also, here in Kansas - people keep exotic animal preserves, including big cats which are native to Africa, & some of those cats have escaped over the years. I've personally seen African wild cats on the plains in Kansas.
We actually had a raccoon that was rescued. She was domesticated & had never lived in the wild. They eventually found a permanent home for her. They're hands are like tiny human hands
The first time I saw a coyote in person it was running across the parking lot of a movie theater in Deer Park, TX heading towards a wooded area. I thought “well that’s an odd looking dog.” & then almost immediately realized that it wasn’t a dog. It was larger than a German shepherd but not as large as a wolf (which I had seen in person before then). It was a yellowish brown, looked well fed & healthy. It didn’t really move or navigate like a dog & I think that’s what tipped me off that it wasn’t a stray dog. It seemed to be aware of its surroundings in a way that dogs (even strays) aren’t

LOL
"Wait, Are Jacklopes Real?" 😆 Thurston just asked the question almost all American kids ask at some point... and a fair share of adults too, lol
I am almost 62 y/o and still get chills and am in COMPLETE AWE when I see a Bald Eagle in the wild. I feel blessed every. Single. Time. I live in Missouri and see them often down towards Madison County.
If you have to look up what a skunk smells like, then you've never encountered one in real life. It's definitely a smell you'd remember.
No doubt about that! There is nothing else like it.
Your eyes burn🥵
Possum eat their weight in ticks and bugs every year. Ugly things but love them now I live in the "sticks" here in Texas.
"to be fair, me and skunks sound kinda similar after I have some milk man..." XD
the part with the jackalope at the end had me rolling 🤣
There's a family of bald eagles that have made their home in the park I go walking in. It's strange because I live in a city and when the eagles moved in all the other large birds I regularly saw (hawks and owls) moved out.
That's awesome, I live close to a wooded area and we always watch for Eagles. Sad the other birds aren't around though
Or, you know, they became dinner.
If you've never smelled a skunk, consider yourself lucky.
I was driving in Washington state and saw a bald eagle attacking a crow in the air right over the freeway.
Also if you’re in Souther California you know that you never let your small dogs alone in your backyard because the coyotes are just waiting for a quick meal.
Same here in Tennessee and Hawks will take off with little dogs too !
But it is common in the US to drop the O.
They also eat ticks.
My husband and I raised one when we were in high school after he ran over the mother taking me home from a date 😳
We have bald eagles in Oklahoma where I live. They nest along the Arkansas river and the Keystone Dam.
There’s only one word that really can describe a skunk’s smell, foul. And it’s unbelievably powerful. You can smell them a mile away.
Most pet skunks are descented, rather like ferrets. Though ferrets smell different. Lol!
Oh, BTW, Skunks, Possums, Armadillos and the occasional Raccoon apparently all went to the same Road Crossing school.
They actually smell good unless its really fresh
That why they call it skunk weed.😉
I used to live in Ohio suburbs and we would smell skunk all the time. Now I live in Baltimore- like in the city, and occasionally I think, why am I smelling skunk? oh, it's just someone's weed.
Lmao same
Lmfao I just left a comment about how you can always tell a stoner by how they react to driving by a dead skunk 🤣🤣🤣
Opossum is usually mispronounced. I had to laugh when you looked up the Jackolope. It's kind of an ongoing joke we play on foreigners 😆
We had a pet raccoon, & he was the cutest little guy ever , they make sweet pets , naughty but cute ! But in the wild they can be very mean !
Racoons are cute but VERY destructive. Here we call them "trash pandas"
Known as a Tanuki in Japanese folklore, it is supposedly a shapeshifting creature.
mario is a furry
Are you dim? A raccoon dog is a real, native animal of East Asia hahahaha not a shapeshifter. Wherever you’re getting your information you should find it somewhere else
Tanuki are real animals you dingbat
@@Ohsnapski Tanuki are described as shapeshifters in Japanese folklore. I don't think OP is saying they're fictitious animals.
I'm so glad you found his videos. I've been watching him for a few years. Also great vid as always.
Some of the animals you found on your UK list are found in Scotland and near the North Sea and remote parts of the UK. The others are introduced species that were accidentally or intentionally released.
Worst thing about getting skunked is its so hard to remove the smell, the smell is wicked strong
Luka, Skunk smells like Marijuana, or so I was told. But then moved in with a roommate that smoked the stuff and can confirm they smell about the same, but I think Skunk is a bit worse.
Like a cross between really rank marijuana and very bad B.O., I'd say. Not a bad description of skunk smell.
@@elkins4406 The skunk smell is just far more intense!
Skunk kind of smells like some cannabis strains. Every time I drive over a roadkill, that's what it reminds me of.
Don't apologize for the intro lol. If I want to watch you react to animals getting more minutes of that isn't a problem
Watching you react to brave wilderness getting stung and bit by things would be interesting
No raccoos don't become statues in Japan also the suit is based on the mythological creature called the tanooki often depicted in statues its only called the racoon suit in localized editions
Your America tour should start in Illinois and Indiana with a local tour with Laurence. Get a taste of real America with a Brit who knows it well before you get shuffled off into some tourist trap.
We have a coyote running in the woods on our place that joins the back of 5 other homes out here. We all have a minimum of ten acres. All of us have dogs in fences and when the coyote passes one group of dogs they start up, getting all the dogs in our valley going. Nice video.
Day 3 of asking for reaction to the battle of midway from the Japanese perspective trilogy it’s honestly better than any documentary I have ever seen
Possum and opossum are similar but not the same animal
Can be. In many parts of the U.S., opossum and possum refer to the same animal. There’s another marsupial in Australia that looks a bit like the Virginia Opossum so it’s called a possum sometimes, but that species is more closely related to other Australian marsupials unsurprisingly.
You should look up "Seneca White Deer" in Seneca County, New York State. (Located at the old Seneca Army Depot)
Fun fact: people in the south call skunks “pole cats”. I’m assuming it’s because the white stripe looks like a pole? 😂
I thought Pole Cats were Weasels ?
It comes from the French word poule, which means chicken..but it’s weird because polecats are actually different animals. They’re called that because they eat chickens.
@@KittenUndercover the polecat was a European animal and the name was then applied to by some English settlers to the skunk because of their similar habits (skunks will raid chicken coops); others adopted the Native American word.
@@garethjones2596 So..you agree with me then.
@@KittenUndercover Yes, of course
DUDE, YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF GROUNDHOG DAY???
I used to live in Coeur d'Alene Idaho. The bald eagle migration is beautiful. No, they aren't tame. They are a raptor. You can train them just like any other raptor, but I think just watching them be wild is amazing! Another great video Lav!
Canadian fan here! Could you react to some Canadian content, Canada is under appreciated and has so much to offer! 🇨🇦
The paused images of Lawrence’s face on this video are gold, man.

0:53 Hippos *were* only in Africa. But fun fact: there is a small population in Columbia, imported from Africa by none other that cocaine drug lord, Pablo Escobar. The population is made of the descendants of his exotic pets, basically.
I do a lot of hiking in Western Colorado and i see eagles weekly, they are stunning and love soaring through canyons along the Colorado River
Bald eagles are always a beautiful sight! 🦅 I’ve seen them a handful of times in the wild: Maine, California and Alaska - so stunning!
There are indeed another similar animal called “possum” which are found in Australia, NZ & China..
Oppssum/possum are interchangeable here in US in spelling and pronunciation.
They’re like the only marsupial in North America that I know of (though opossums are in South America as well)
One distinction between Possums and Opossums is that Possums have a furry tail, while Opossums have a smooth tail
They are actually very smart and sweet animals, and they help our ecosystem a lot- they eat thousands upon thousands of ticks per year!
Here in LA rattlesnakes and hawks are common especially when you’re hiking.
Here in rural Illinois (about 100 miles southwest of Chicago) it is actually pretty common to see a bald eagle fishing the rivers.
I’ve been seeing them more and more out west and also in Appalachia over the recent years.
skunk smells like the most pungent and powerful weed you can think of. then multiply that by 15
They aim for your eyes and it's about as strong as tear gas
My cousin has a skunk, they had the scent glan removed. It act like a cat, but when you put it outside noone stop by. Lol
