  • Such an amazing wildlife moment, and I was so lucky to get it on film! You never know what will happen when you head out for a little evening paddle in the land of the midnight sun with a gopro in your pocket!
I was in the Northwest Territories to launch my book from the place that hosted the adventure that the book is about. It was so warmly received in Yellowknife, NWT, that at the time of this posting, the local bookstore is sold out of copies!

Woniya I wanted to reach out to you. Your story was the most beautiful and inspiring stories I’ve seen on Alone! Thank you for the wisdom you passed on! I love your story and what you said about letting go of money and fame in favor of self care was spot on and really stuck with me. Thank you gorgeous human.

    Hi,
I just recently discovered your channel, and watched a number of videos. Thank you.
I spent many years in Nevada County. We probably crossed paths there at some point, maybe at The Bookseller. Or Ben Franklin? Or one of the festivals or street fairs? You look familiar.
Anyway, I have lived quite a bit in the wilderness also, and my interests are similar. Your skills are more developed in most areas, but I might have a couple of things to offer that would be of interest.
One is regarding extreme supersteels. You mentioned a custom knifemaker in one of the videos, so you might already be familiar, and might even have a knife made with one of these steels. But there might be some of the new extreme supersteels that significantly outperform them also. I don't know, so I just thought I would mention them.
One of their main advantages is that they can retain a sharp edge much longer, meaning less maintenance and better, more consistent performance in survival situations. They prove themselves in head-to-head testing even against the very best of the other supersteels.
They are, however, exotic and not used by many makers, even custom makers.
Another thing that comes to mind is this: It seems like a good strategy to have highly evolved knowledge skills in key areas. By "highly evolved" I mean beyond-next-level highly evolved. Extreme, in other words.
For example, some people have highly evolved knowledge of uses of plants, well beyond what is typical for Alone contestants. Jordan mentioned a woman who clearly had knowledge in this area that was significantly better and more usable or functional than his own. He said she would be a person he would consider as a first choice if he were allowed a partner on Alone.
Which brings up another strategy: skill and knowledge complementarity of partners or group members.
It was amazing what Euell Gibbons was able to provide for his family during hard times, or just about anywhere he went.
Another strategy is having extremely well developed and well targeted hunting skills. Or fishing skills. Or both. Some people are just aces in those areas. They are up in the rarified air, in their ability to bring home the meals.
Having an intuitive feel or sense of fish and animal behaviors is part of it.
Lately I've been spending a lot of time in Southwest wilderness areas. I focus mainly on key (the most abundant and nutritious) wild plant foods. The one that stands out above all others is Sahara mustard (Brassica tournifortii), which, as a bonus, is considered an invasive pest that no one minds having harvested and eaten.
It is almost obscenely abundant in some of my favorite areas. And I have discovered ways of preparing it that make for very enjoyable, highly nutritious meals. A win-win-win-win. I love it.

I just had a fast look at your channel, I’ll check out some of your videos.
Butttttt you made me thinkkkk …… their is a woman who lives in the woods off grid in Washington State, I would bet that you know of her, and if you don’t your really need to check her out Wow is she one extremely interesting person.
The reason you got me thinking about her was, she probably lives very similar to you guys, Butttt I was wondering if She has a RUclips channel 🤔
I guess the only way to try and find out would be to google her name Etc, and search on RUclips.
I’m not sure what her Second name is, her surname but her first name is Lynx.
I wonder if you guys know of her, if ya don’t I bet you’d find her really interesting.
Not sure if she’s wrote books or not but she has been in documentaries about her life and off grid living with the British film maker Ben Fogle.
Have a great weekend, Hi from England 👍

Absolutely wonderful. Ermin and martens are my favorite wetland mammals. Although they're so rare to see in the wild where I am. Mink, by comparison are pricks.

What a beautiful place. I have dreamed of lands like that ever since I read Hatchet (dozens of times). I love being in Texas, but it's offerings are limited lol. Do you have any recommendations for cloths when kayaking? I'll be in Alaska next month and have no clue what it takes to stay warm lol
