They are usually very well off people with very simple lives . Watching this as an engineer, I keep thinking of different things I would want to try to see if I could expedite this process. A giant, rug-sized ultrasonic cleaning tank with continuous drainage and shower spouts above- would definitely reduce the amount effort needed. Rug could sit on a grate, raised 1" off the bottom of the tank, with 1" of liquid above, grate maybe inclined a bit so dirt could flow down, and hundreds of watts of ultrasonic waves coupled into the liquid in the tank.. ooh yeah!

      @valiantsfelinesmccarty6678 Год назад +19

      Sorry as an antique appraiser I can tell you you don't understand how these rugs are made. It is very difficult to clean these rugs the dirt gets into the weave and even though an ultrasonic cleaner will shake the rug you could literally break the weave. I flinch at some of the machines that use on these rugs but when it is as bad as this rug was is basically trashed anyway so the only thing you can do is use everything you have you cannot pull the mud out you can only keep hoping to dislodge the mud, debris and dust of the centuries or of a flood. Flooding is the worst thing to happen to a rug like this or what they call a magic carpet. You can tell the quality and the antiquity have a good hand woven carpet because it will usually stand the test of time if it was care for well enough and was immediately dried out after a horrible flood not sat rotting in the water. It is an amazement that he was able to save it.

      @@valiantsfelinesmccarty6678 What I find amazing is that more of these rugs don't have massive rot on the edges of them. The bindings on the back and edges are usually the first areas to rot from various things even sun.
      Most of the rugs seem to be semi-antique though and maybe the chemical dyes and synthetic fibers hold up better......who knows.

      a bit of a delay, but there is a rug cleaner on YT(I do not remember the name), but they have a setup where they put a rug on a grate and their system automates most of the cleaning process. Think of it like a giant rug washer.

    Amazing job. I still believe that the carpet cleaning could be sped up by having a two inch tall platform made, where the top is perforated aluminum or stainless steel. That would tend to let the dirt, soap, and everything else flow out from underneath, rather than being trapped. That seemed to be a huge portion of your time - trying to remove what was trapped.

      @@triciac1019 - if there were large holes, probably. I'm thinking that a quarter inch hole (6mm) with an inch of separation (2.5cm) would probably be plenty to drain, while providing good support. The roller brush machine is likely stretching fibers more than dropping into a hole would do.
      It's not a perfect thing, it's just a way to not trap the dirt constantly underneath, thus saving time, energy, and water.

Lots of water and elbow grease gets the job done. A rug that is properly taken care of can last for many decades or longer, and during that time it will be washed with water several times.
