We already have genuine match winners in Virat and Rohit. It was unfortunate that both got out on a single digit score for the first time in the same match since CT 2017 final and exposed the extremely ordinary middle order of our country. In CT semi final, both were not out and took India home so it's foolish to compare Yuvraj with them. Yuvraj was great in two ICC tournaments no doubt but overall he was not a consistent performer and hence eventually dropped. Remember the greats of the past but don't undermine the greats of the present and future.

I still feel Kumble's coaching style was better than Shastri style. Shastri is like happy go lucky. He just leaves the players the way they are and doesn't give the extra input needed or constructive criticism to improve their game. Even some players are also behaving like they know it all and they don't need someone's advise. Kumble was more on a stricter side which is needed. Disciplined behavior develops responsibility.

He's amazing cricket talent and as a player I criticized him a lot (notably for not finishing pressure matches - precisely the reason I personally put Dhoni ahead of all the players incl. legendary Sir Viv). In comparison, Gavaskar/Manjrekar/and billion others never seem to get to the technical points and subtelty like Tendulkar did in this interview) Two things: 1) Great point about Pant trying to hit Santner against the wind. Pant has played 8 ODIs (though he did play 2 high pressure Test series)! And to bat at no 4 in WC Knock out - I think his experience showed through in that shot. Wish Pant all the best for future though. The way he played for his 32 - he looked very good (compared to almost all #2 India has tried last 3 years) 2) Now the big one - Dhoni's position (highly appreciate the fact that he could've controlled Pant and Hardik around him). But what if Dhoni faltered?! - like in Champions Trophy Finals '17 with noone experienced to guide the 'tail'! I guess Dinesh Karthik did block and see off the initial spell which helped Hardik/Jadeja/Dhoni later. Game was much closer with 25 needed of 10. 2 good hits and it was well within striking distance. So strategy to get Dhoni in at #7 did have some big merits (35+ overs already through and close to hitting out point, about 42+ overs mark) I do think fresh/young talents like Hardik and Pant looked much more assured than Rohit/Rahul or Karthik - so there was some merit in that order. Plus also the big debate about Dhoni not knocking enough singles/twos - strike rotation seem to be big problem even Sachin acknowledged!

We already have genuine match winners in Virat and Rohit. It was unfortunate that both got out on a single digit score for the first time in the same match since CT 2017 final and exposed the extremely ordinary middle order of our country. In CT semi final, both were not out and took India home so it's foolish to compare Yuvraj with them. Yuvraj was great in two ICC tournaments no doubt but overall he was not a consistent performer and hence eventually dropped. He just leaves the players the way they are and doesn't give the extra input needed or constructive criticism to improve their game. I completely agree with you. Though Kohli is a very good batsman, he often fails to show responsibility in knock out games. Also, can't consider him as a perfect captain for team India. Miss Ganguly and Dhoni's captaincy. Now if I talk about Shastri, I would request to get a good coach.

Great to listen to Sachin. He's amazing cricket talent and as a player I criticized him a lot (notably for not finishing pressure matches - precisely the reason I personally put Dhoni ahead of all the players incl. legendary Sir Viv). Very forthright views from Sachin and super good to hear his techinical comments. In comparison, Gavaskar/Manjrekar/and billion others never seem to get to the technical points and subtelty like Tendulkar did in this interview)
Two things:
1) Great point about Pant trying to hit Santner against the wind. Pant has played 8 ODIs (though he did play 2 high pressure Test series)! And to bat at no 4 in WC Knock out - I think his experience showed through in that shot. Wish Pant all the best for future though. The way he played for his 32 - he looked very good (compared to almost all #2 India has tried last 3 years)
2) Now the big one - Dhoni's position (highly appreciate the fact that he could've controlled Pant and Hardik around him). But what if Dhoni faltered?! - like in Champions Trophy Finals '17 with noone experienced to guide the 'tail'! I guess Dinesh Karthik did block and see off the initial spell which helped Hardik/Jadeja/Dhoni later. Game was much closer with 25 needed of 10. 2 good hits and it was well within striking distance. So strategy to get Dhoni in at #7 did have some big merits (35+ overs already through and close to hitting out point, about 42+ overs mark)
I do think fresh/young talents like Hardik and Pant looked much more assured than Rohit/Rahul or Karthik - so there was some merit in that order. Plus also the big debate about Dhoni not knocking enough singles/twos - strike rotation seem to be big problem even Sachin acknowledged!
