Protestant interpretations of cigarettes can vary but I'm Orthodox, we believe that cigarettes are inherently bad because it damages the body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Now are they sinful? If you let it have power and influence over you then yes.

I made the decision to leave drinking and that environment completely behind. I left my bar staff job too. My friends didn’t get it either, but I had to do it to grow in my relationship with God. It’s great to hear other young men taking their faith in Jesus seriously 🙏

Similarly, if your belief in god drives you away from others, that is your choice in life just as much as it is others choices to be an atheist. God or not, we are all humans, we live very different lives with very different beliefs and thoughts. We go through this life with very similar struggles and fears. My advice is literally just hop around churches and see if you can find people your age with similar interests and then invite them, or get invited to a social event. I love the gym so I usually invite to lift with other bros that seem into fitness

Honestly nothing at all to do with religion from your friend. It's a maturity issue. I'm an atheist and have been since I was 11. To me, your beliefs do sound insane. And I personally don't think you "know" it's true. You believe it is. But in that same vein, muslims "know" their religion is true, hindus do, etc... Not to be insulting, I'm actually on your side with this. Your friend, I reckon is a bit of a contrarian in general and just doesn't accept that people believe different things. I grew out of that when I met my wife, who is muslim. We coexist peacefully, she has her beliefs I have mine. They occasionally clash with our life decisions and we've agreed to always find compromise because we love each other and don't exist to tear each other down but build each other up. Her and I take that same attitude and apply it to everyone in our lives, including our friends. I've partied and I still do occasionally. I have a friend very similar to you, who found his faith. Ever since I learned I don't pressure him to drink, or even come to events where people will be drinking. It's not his thing, and that's okay. When I am at a party, regardless of how drunk I am, I never pressure anybody to drink and also don't let anyone who's refusing to drink stand alone against the people trying to pressure them. I'll always stick up for their choice if I see it happening, because it's who I am. Your friend saying "It's rude to refuse a drink someone has bought for you". Well, it's way, way, way more rude to buy a drink for someone you know doesn't drink, then try and guilt trip them into drinking it.

I Can tell you're a non denominational or protestant. Orthodox christians and catholics don't obsess over trivial things like having a drink. When you're apart of a real church with liturgy and confession you stop seeing christianity as a self improvement routine.

Even if we manage to resist sin with our actions, we sin in mind, we sin sometimes with out even realizing. It really is a battle between the flesh and spirit. Paul describes this in Romans 7:15-20. "For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it."

They failed severely and continuously, even given concessions. Most of the Old Testament is a record of that time.
