All our truck were run on cooking oil and frequently clogged the fuel filter on the old Volvos and filter & injectors on the dafs
If I ever got pulled by vosa I had a way I could prematurely clog the filter and fake a breakdown on the hard shoulder 🤫
All it needed was the fuel filter taking off and putting back on again and it’s be back to normal but until that was done the truck would cough and splutter and hardly tick over, it was enough for them to cancel the Pull! And let me get on with seeking recovery

I got tugged by DVSA once in an 18tonne rigid. I’m, ahem, particular in my checks, (a boss suspended me from driving duties for 8 weeks tryna beat that outta me), but still a nervous moment. Four of em. One tappin the wheel nuts, one downloading my tacho, one doing I have no idea what, and the supervisor. A23 northbound shortway past Pyecombe, Sussex.
Meh, they gotta job to do & the state of trucks in some fleets would be way worse if they didn’t exist. Not watched this yet but read a few comments. We’re all human, we all have bad days, and if the grumpy one is always grumpy, there’s probably a reason for it that we know nothing of. Personally, I take very little serious unless it Is serious

I was a class 1 female truck driver in the 80s and 90s no auto boxes range changers and spliters and no sat nav, hated doing london with London a to z in one hand and wheel in other, also did work abroad and furthest I went was Gibraltar. Love ur channel and I hated being pulled by as we called them the ministry lol and axial weights. Trouble is ours where loaded for us and should you be slightly over on an axial was us for chop not loaders. So unfair. We went from artics too rigeds with draw bar trailers and worst ones with turning axial on front of trailer and rear wheels on trailer. Wow took some time to master reversing them. I did enjoy the life style and there wasn't many femme truck drivers around then. Love ur channel much better than that nutter Tim lol tell me do the new electronic tacos tell u how much time have left driving and do u still have to switch it from other work to driving ? I always forget to switch it lol. I rember we used to have too keep the previous weeks thacos with us at all time. I do rember when the speed limiter first came in and at first was a limit of 60mph which was ok but then a year later went down to the 56mph that was painful lol

Great vid Jay, the problem the DVSA had there was the fact the inspector does not know their own policies about being filmed, which is all they are, they are not laws nor regulations. Even more so, their "policies" only cover them in or on their OWN premises or land. They definitely have no rights or permission to stop you filming when they pull you into a service station or when they pull you over at anytime on the open road. "Keep on Truckin'"

To answer your question about trucking jobs in the US. It is easier to pass your test in the US. The standards are not as high as they are in the UK. The trucks as you know are longer so you have much more space in the cabin. The no 1 truck is kenworth and the roads are long and wide compared to the UK. Even if you drive in the cities you won't have to squeeze through parked cars. The country is massive you will rarely drive across the country which will take days. But you can still spend hours driving the equivalent of the UK in a region lol. Finally the salary is much higher compared to the UK. Unlike the UK where there is a universal salary for truck drivers, in America it is different. Salary varies from state to state as each employer sets theirs. It is not uncommon to earn anywhere from $70k to $100k. If only drivers in the UK earned similar

@John it's the same with coach driving (I'm a coach driver) you have 15 hours max working a day with 45 hours off a week. So the VOSA get really arsey if they can't see a 10-15 min "other work" section at the start of your working day on your tacho. But a walk round counts as working. Not 4.5hrs drive time.

I've come across a lot of DVSA people, both on the ex-VOSA and ex-DSA side of things, fair to say you can spot the ones who used to be VOSA, they always seem to be the least agreeable ones....
Although they can be a real pain in the arse and seem to be trying to cause you unnecessary grief sometimes, I really do think they're a necessary evil - what some of the cowboy firms out there would do if they thought they could get away with it doesn't bear thinking about, the roads would be far more dangerous without the threat of random inspections and prohibitions etc.
