He hit Casamayor so hard his mouth piece flew out his mouth in those final seconds of the fight...give him a little more time he would have gotten him out of there. He was one of the most dominant Lightweights in history and he fought all the BEST of his era... Acelino Freitas, Joel Casamayor, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Diego Corrales, Stevie Johnson, Julio Diaz, he then went up to Super Lightweight and fought Ricky Hatton and Ruslan Provodnkiov but as a Light weight he was most dominant beating all except for Floyd Mayweather but gave him a good run for his money. He is one of the greatest Lightweights Ever in boxing.

I had Castillo winning 115-113,but the Judge who had it 117-111 for Castillo was way off,because who ever you thought won the fight it was a close fight either way.
Yeah when it comes to championship bouts, in my opinion you have to take the belt from the champ. Simply out boxing him isn’t go enough unless you out class him. It has to be that the champ could not touch you if you out box him. But if it’s a back & forth fight, & eventually the champ starts wearing you down & you never had the champ hurt, the champ should retain his title.
Daniel Vazquez well close enough isn’t always enough. Being up on pointing & working the ring with foot work is good & all. But if that champ eventually starts locking in & trapping the challenger & breaking him down to the point that the challenger isn’t able to move like he was earlier in the fight I feel he’ll lose. Especially if the champ is hurting him. It’s weird because what’s that challenger going to do if he wins? How’s he going to defend that belt? Is he just going to punch & move & punch & move. Or will he punch & move & stand & fight when he has to. I like brawls, Diego Corrales vs Jose Luis Castillo is 1 of my all time favorite fights to watch.
I'm cuban and I agree with you. Joel fought well first seven rounds. Last five was hard to watch. Castillo punished him in the 12 . Castillo won the fight. Casamayor showed he had a decent chin.

Frietas schooled him.. took it to him in the first half, then changed the rythym on Casamayor in the 2nd half, outboxing him. Cubans are great boxers, problem is that they become predictable in their intentions/ or next move. When they're faced against someone with high IQ & is relentless, by the 5th round it becomes appearant that their opponent has adapted to their rythym & can start landing cleaner much more effective shots.
