Nice , detailed, clear review! Great info, from showing the exterior and interior, console, seating, boot,etc.. and range.. nice!
I had a test drive in the 2021 Kia e Niro 4+ 64kw a month ago and I had other cars to test drive. I was blown away with the e Niro I ordered it right away and did not even test the others. this is truly an awesome car.
Great review, full of details like noting the hum and trim levels and showing all features inside! THANKS!
Really tight review. Great stuff.
ReVolta! Perfect. :) Glad to be subbed! ;)
Getting mine tomorrow. Can't wait 😍😍
Can't wait for your review of the facelift eNiro coming later this year
I would have definitely called that thing the de niro :D
A good presentation that makes me love Kia e-Niro but the charging need to be less in time
‘Looks like the e-Niro is leading the way !! (Good video as well !).
2:40 thank you for including noise information regarding the car... every review I have seen of the KONA on utube, the road noise almost overwhelms the person talking, it is that bad....so I passed on the KONA for that reason, and that reason alone. but this e-Niro seems nicer, and quieter, more roomier with better cargo space. I will consider buying one as soon as I can find one in Texas to test drive...they don't sell them in texas.
An excellent review!
Mine is on order. Should have it by mid Feb. Cant wait!
Hey tx for the review. I just ordered one and will probably recieve it in about 18 months. As a standard in Denmark its a 7” screen, manual seats, and without the automatic parking... thats all extra. Price in dk from 45.000 €
It's interesting to see the differences between your UK version and my US model. (Besides your steering wheel being on the wrong side... ;) I have an amazing Harmon Cardin sound system for one thing. Secondly, you seem to have a HomeLink self-dimming mirror. That was only available on the launch edition here, which sadly I was too late for.
You're a good presenter. Some car reviewers are annoying. But not you.
Cough cough*** Alex on autos
Missing out on the 22kw AC charging capability given the number of public charging stations with 22kw.
Glad to see review. The 64kw battery in Niro is from SK and the one in the Kona is from LG according to Bjorn Nyland. We have a a lot of discussion in the Kia e-Niro UK interest group on Facebook.. it’s a shame it’s missing LED headlights, rear cross traffic, blind spot, rear usb, sunroof....why has the UK market been given a second rate spec compared to rest of the world?
Probably because Asian cars aren’t as popular perhaps? It’s the same thing with Toyota here, they don’t even bother anymore
Can’t you get the “Spirit” version?
I'm in possession of one of these at present - the top of the range version. It's a great car but coming from a Leaf Tekna am very surprised there is no front facing camera, nor bird's eye camera view. Auto parking I can live without though.
nice review~ Niro is the best!
As I live in the Desert S.W in USA, my biggest concern is battery cooling and how 118 deg ambient summer temps will affect battery life (or death).
Can’t wait for this car to be available in Australia, hopefully late 2019
Cam F has it been made available in Aus yet?
@@MoAli-wm4of Unfortunately not, they say maybe 2021.
Why do electric car reviews still spend half the video explaining the basics of an electric car? If someone is watching this video, they already know what an electric car is and how to charge it and the advantages/disadvantages. Spend more time talking about the interior, safety features, and feel of the car. You know, like any other car review.
William Lake ...
As much as I agree with you... I think that still a lot of coverage is needed .
Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
I don't agree with you at all. I've driven more than half of all EVs out there on long distance trips and right now the only car I'd buy is any Tesla. All the other cars are way too uncertain to drive on long trips. Faulty chargers and bad range estimations all the time. Once I even had to take the train or wait for four hours for slow charging when a rapid charger didn't work. I took the train.
i like it its so enoying with a fossil car review when they dont mention how too fill up the tank
Tesla have build and dealership problems Not to mention their No profits warning
@@manoftheroad55 doesn't matter how great build quality the other cars have or anything else if you can't even drive from San Francisco to Las Vegas (not even los Angeles) without hitting a wall of charging and range problems!
The best electric car you can't buy - until 2020.
Patience is required Adam but planning and working with the dealer directly like wiring him 40 grand so he knows you want the car helps immensely. My dealer worked hard for me and helped me spec out the car in 4 months.
Comfortable ride with no range anxiety and awesome roominess!!!!
@@briankirby6714 What are you a mafia boss? Wiring £40k lol ^^.
I was going to say that...good luck with 2020..might be 2021
10 Feb 2020, Germany: The Kia e-Niro is still not available!
Good review. Thanks.
Hope that has an futuristic interior
What is the difference in total price excluding accessories between this and Tesla model 3 which has arrived in the UK? Many thanks
Im hoping they’ll have the option to change the little trim colors. I think it would look good with black and red trim
So do you get 253 miles with, headlights on,heater on,wipers on ,at night and radio also are the batteries owned by the car owner or do you rent them and if you rent them that then would make the car more expensive, and when you insure the car do you have to pay extra for the rented batteries???
If that would come as a 7-seater like the Kia carens. It would be absolutely perfect.
I have a feeling that I wath this very video before
But having the heated seat , radio , heaters , lights on what miles do you get then.?
I'm curious to what happens when you give a 'bit more' juice when in reverse ?
WOW! A ‘tour de force’ presentation! Off to look at WhatCar.co. Thanks.
Slightly too obvious Stuart
Did the "real range" test also include what the battery can provide in the cold winter months?
of course not, it never does
Nice vehicle that just happens to be 60% MORE expensive than the "Top Spec" Hybrid version of the same car! We own a Kia Niro Hybrid Touring and it has been wonderful (loaded with Kit as you call it) but I nearly chocked when I saw the price of the E-Niro. We'll continue on enjoying 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers combined, including winter with snow tires, until some sanity flows down to the EV world.
There is a small idea in some electric cars( Tesla model 3) that increase the aerodynamic efficiency through the tire cover design that makes air to be pushed backward. But if we put a dynamo for electric generation on the back wheels is this will be better for charging the battery during driving?
Watched the review and thought I'd pop down and see the e-Niro for myself.
It's impressive, sleek and stylish. Problem is - You can't have one, not for at least 12 months and then even the specifications are not agreed.
Even if you ordered it, paid your deposit there are none in the UK for sale and it won't be available till late next year so I was informed.
The salesman explained that there are not enough batteries to meet demand as the Scandinavians have brought forward their EU Emissions Policy dates and are sucking up all available e-vehicles.
Since I want to change my vehicle in the coming months I felt feeling dejected and disappointed.
From what I’ve heard of the models they’re offering, it sounds as if you’re better off waiting for a true production model... there are some crucial systems missing in these early ones...
What would the range and price be without the bells and whistles?
2:14 "it's no different in the e narrow a say at ecker for example" what the.. are you talking about? What the is "a tecak eckar" ?
Very good car. Good price. Perfect.
I know it has been said before but due to the waiting list length it is the best electric car you can't buy. Better to wait a year or so as prices are predicted to come down to ICE levels cars by then
Nice video, just wondered about when people wash the car in a carwash. Will this affect electrics? Funny advert on T.V with Robert DeNiro.
The technology is definitely getting there or is probably there and the oil corporate not letting out. The main issues are on how long it takes to charge, and the of course the charging stations. Also, 30k plus is still a lot of money for a model that doesn't look like a 30k plus car
How many volts it takes to charge the battery or car. ?
I thought the model 3 was in that class. or is the bmw i3 infotainment system better?
pas mas mode 3 in the uk is a £41,00+ car
No doubt bmw reliability will be worse, though
If you could turn the music down a little bit that'd be great.
This is the perfect car for Uber drivers in London. It’s a Toyota Prius killer.
ULEZ and congestion charge will be uber prius killer.
Did they design the first cars with 4 legs, big head, a tail and a saddle?
kia is also built in Slovakia. i have one in prague. it is a ceed kia. gas powered, but electric is coming
I drive an All Electric 2016 Kia Soul EV and trust me , this will be the best car you can possibly buy , especially if you find one USED , like me... I pay less then $200 a month for a car that has a FULL WARRANTY , is LIKE BRAND NEW , i pay ZERO to drive , ZERO , no gas , no oil , NOTHING ! NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING!
Even if you go on long distant road trips , any Family with two or more cars could easily replace your everyday car , and have One hybrid and one ALL-Electric and then you will use almost ZERO gas and OIL and save thousands
thanks this review helped with my insomnia. night
Well done you made me laugh with 'the old arguments .. that they're far too expensive' RRP from £32, 995 for a mini SUV - Yup you got that right!
My OCD wont let me overlook that overly conspicuous front charging port at the front grill. They should have hidden it more😣😣😣
25 years from now people would be saying "Car makers used to have 1 electric car mode just to show they can do it l but in 2046 we have 1 gasoline car model and rest is all electric".
I doubt that. Petrol is here to stay along side electric, perhaps in 80 to 100 years time petrol might be replaced with hydrogen.
How does it compare to the Kona EV?
What’s the regen options like?
People should be aware that the charge times they list here are for "Full" charges. This is not very realistic. Not many people will drive exactly 280 miles before pulling up to a charging station. I suspect that on a long trip most owners will likely begin thinking about refueling about the same time as they did with their gasoline vehicles, a 1/4 to 3/8 tank. So you can cut those charging times by 25%-40%. But this still does not represent what most owners will really experience. Most owners won't be making 250-300 mile trips everyday, they'll be doing what the average driver in America does everyday which is typically well under 100 miles/day (actually its less than 30 miles each day). Common sense should tell you that you need only be concerned with replacing what you use everyday which in my case (at 30 miles/day), is about 7kWh of energy. I plug into my 240V@40A Level 2 charger when I get home and my car is topped off in about 50 minutes. If I stop at the CHAdeMO 50kW charger down the street on my way home I'm done in just about 10 minutes. I constantly hear owners of gasoline cars rail against electric vehicles citing fewer charging stations than there are gasoline stations. This is absolutely ridiculous because EVs are most often charged at home. Most EV owners will never need to visit a charging station. Think about it, if you could refuel your gasoline vehicle at home just how often would you need to go to a gasoline station? Unless you're making extremely long distance drives everyday, the truth is not very often, if ever. As well there would be far fewer gasoline stations needed since there would be less need to use them. It takes two seconds out of my day to refuel my electric car, one second to plug it in before going to bed and one second to unplug it in the morning. My car is automatically warmed and defrosted before I even get into it. Full tank every morning with far more range than I can possibly use in a day. No more needing to take time out of my day (twice a week), to plan and make a stop at a filthy gasoline station.
UK. Has 24 million cars 4 million vans ! million trucks 24 million homes population 67 million These look impossible numbers for renewable energy ...at present all renewable energy generators Windfarms, Solar are manufactured with fossil energy This all seems to be overlooked with importance on the style of a car
Move to Australia and you'll recalibrate those distances, I live ~3000km from every major city in Australia - we're actually closer to Indonesia than our southern capitals. Electric cars would be fine for the people who drive into Darwin from no more than 50km away each morning, but regional Australians routinely take on much longer journeys and you sure as hell cant hitch a ride into town with a jerrycan if your battery dies out on the highway. Small population, massive distances - parts of Canada are the same, with the added threat of people literally freezing to death in a stranded vehicle. Any grand plans to replace our fossil fuel vehicles really need to be discussed with the poor sods who live in remote locations.
I think you raise a great point when you say; at home, you’ll only need to replenish the energy used in that day. So even a regular 3-pin socket might be sufficient if you don’t actually travel that far. On the face of information presented, it always seems like you need a special wall box etc. but as you said, this assumes charging from empty. The best way is obviously just to top it up every night.
I heard, possibly you can add a tow hitch to this.
Looks very interesting and viable......
Getting a bit excited about paying for motoring on my household electricity bill
Kia have been around in the UK for many years now
They deserve to succeed with these cars
Landing Robert De Niro for their advertising campaign was a stroke of genius.......
Hello, I like your reviews. Can you please review Indian cars (electric) like Mahindra, Tata etc. Of course other companies that are launching in India. Please provide details of low budget electric cars as well. Thank you.
He might review them if they were sold in the UK or in Europe.
if they make the KIA 20K FOR THE FULL EV they would sell like sooo many units
I drive 240 miles per week and it is charged at home in my garage. 7 hours was the longest wait for a full charge. Power is ample and the trim level is extraordinary!!!!
Kia niro and hyundai kona are so nice ev.
Is it all wheel drive?
Re Volta reviewing an electric car. I don’t think it’s a coincidence
If so modern why not have LED headlights which are more energy efficient especially for an EV! Not even an optional extra for this vehicle!
Great review! Impressive electric car. But in Canada, where the Winters are brutally cold, the electric range will be cut in half and charging could take longer in colder weather. This is what I have heard recently from an article in the Globe &Mail which reviewed the GM Chevy Bolt. Still , the Niro looks like a winner.
From Canada and I can confirm it's 25% loss when we are in the -20s. Drive an eGolf and I do 115km per day. Never came close to running low and I'm not shy about using the heat or driving at 120 km/h for half my drive where there is no traffic.
@@christopherstaples1628 , does the eGolf perform better? Meaning, does it lose less energy in cold weather vs other electrics?
@@christopherstaples1628 I drive an eGolf in Norway, 2018 FL. 25% maybe when it's -3-5C, when closer to -20 I'm at 50% (preheating at home). I am using studded tyres, though (Nokian Hakka 8).
@@smr32061 No, it doesn't. I'm 90% sure the eNiro performs better. It has longer range and charges way faster, also in cold weather. The eGolf has no active cooling nor heating of the battery pack, charges at max 40kWh, less when hot or cold. Look up Bjørn Nylands winter range tests of eNiro and eGolf. Too bad the eNiro is not actually available for most of us.
That's a EV I would buy! Tesla Y is too $$$.
Now tjis is an ev i want looks great
Seems odd that the big issue with electric cars is the range, but they make the thing huge and bulky so that it uses lots of power just to go along. How much further would it go if it were lower? In the real world you can only go perhaps 100 miles before you need to head home for a charge. Probably less if you put on the heated seats, wipers or aircon.
Ok i admit it, E cars are nice and with a 200hp available every time is a great thing. But damn! They cost a lot.
Great content, cool cars
You have to stop measuring this "mixed range". It's completely irrelevant. Almost all people have charging at home or at work. So the only time the range is needed is on a long trip and on a long trip you don't drive in the city, you only drive on the highway and on cross country roads. The niro used 25 kWh/100km on the trip Björn Nyland took from Oslo to Denmark. And he got a range of 255km/160 miles!! Even the model s 60 could almost match that range and those conditions. Even if you throw a bit of country roads in there at slower speed the car will still use about 20 kWh/100km and get a range of about 320km/200 miles. The model s 75 and up definitely have better range than the niro on almost all long road trips.
True. But Bjorn put the right pedal down pretty hard on that trip. Constantly "hammered it". Unless you're in a hurry, Vi Bilägares highway test is more relevant. They drove in legal speeds and got over 350km range. While most perhaps go a bit faster than that, it is still perfectly fine to travel at legal highway speed. If needing range.
@@MarkusOttosson Which video is that? Apart from I don't speak swedish, the only one I found doesn't seem to be testing in highway
"almost all" yeah that's why pretty much every suburban street is lined with parked cars every night, often a few minutes walk from the owners house and i dunno when the last time you drove into a city residential area was but there are always cars jammed in everywhere, people with driveways are in the minority as are people with car parking at work.

Hi Doug
I have been offered an E Niro Advance as a special Edition. A "first base edition" which means that here in the DK, four things has been removed and other four things added compared to standard Advance model.
Removed is the seat heating, the heatpump, steering & battery heater and DAB.
Added is electric front seat, two security features, rear crossing traffic alert as well as blind angle assistent alert and some leather with blue interiour.
The car was offered with discount and immediate delivery. (Otherwise 1 year delivery time)
Do you have an idea as to how much ( in kilometers) the range is negatively affected when the battery heater is missing ?
Thanks for a very informative video
Peter Romer - I would *_seriously avoid_* any modern EV that doesn’t have a heat pump... without one the battery will suffer.
@@grendelum hi orion.
Thanks for input. I got some clearance. Many of the other EV cars dont have a heatpump and the battery heater will not influence the range. But it will increase loading time in cold weather.
I will have it delivered tomoroow. ;)
The heated seats and heatpump makes a huge difference to your range when the weather is cold. You will be using 50% of your range just to heat the cabin. Heated steering wheel and seats allow you to not heat the cabin and the heatpump helps a lot if you do want to heat the cabin.
The KIA tech guy said that there are two heatpumps. The one I dont have is the bigger one. I have always disliked heating in the seats, and I was a fan of the features that were added to the car instead. Even though its not cold here, the heating system in mine is quite quick. No red flags yet. The tech guy also said that the battery heater has nothing to do with range of the battery, but it can influence an increase in the battery charging time in winter, as the battery heater means something to the battery when the battery is receiving power but not when driving and using power. Must say this car is brilliant. We get more and more happier with it. When its fully powered it says range of 471 KM. Our typical use is 16 kw per 100.
Well...
As much as i like this car... i still wonder why the charge port is in the nose..?
Any slight bump into another car... could charge the port useless, stranding the car..!
The cluster of the interior, I’m not to Fund of... i think that Tesla sets standard.

@@chrisredfield3240 And a hatchback for me! The Model 3's design is stupid beyond belief. No hatchback and no physical controls. All style and no substance. Hopefully the Model Y will be more sensible (and likely a similar size and design as the eNiro actually).
@@ShinShinoke i think some manufacture should just make a really basic car as little electronics as possible grey plastic around vulnerable areas i still want the best safety though. And a full size spare .
@@chrisredfield3240 So the two features most copied by other car makers are the ones you will not accept. Good luck!
Looks like a very very big SUV with a dwarf presenting in the front.
the problem is that they don't actually make very many of these. In the US, it is almost impossible to buy one of these
What about maintenance aspect of it or servicing. I guess batteries need servicing of some sort.
Every ICE car has a lead battery for starting the engine. They don't need servicing, just get replaced at end of life (don't hold enough charge anymore). Li-ion batteries are the same history (every cellphone has one), you just replace'em when the charge they can hold drops below a minimum acceptable.
I find in this kind of videos that the person talks to the camera, you should know that within a second you could cause an accident, safety first
I'm confused. The e-Niro does 0-62 in 7.8s, which is the same as the 40kWh Leaf. BUT, the e-Niro has 23% more torque and 36% more power, while weighing only 11.5% more. What's going on?
Jehan Kateli perhaps they selected the single gear ratio carefully to allow acceleration competitive with the Leaf, but also to allow the high-speed cruising to be more efficient than the Leaf
Why don't manufacturers routinely fit solar panels in the roof? This would supplement the batteries, and help give the car a longer range. And it would also help negate the need for charging points, if your car is parked in the office car park all day when it is sunny.
Looked great until it got to the bit about "The charging cables are handily kept under the boot floor!" So if I have a boot full of stuff, I have to empty it out if I ant to charge?
@CommonSense No, but I do often have a boot full of heavy boxes and tools for work. To empty and re-pack every day would be a pain in the bottom. Not a massive issue, I'll just not use the "handy" storage area and keep it in a bag in the main part of the boot.
Sounds good, but they are not sold in my state☹️
What sort of state are you in?
I live in Florida
Another thing you need to stop doing is to discharge the car until they stop. You should only run them down until the car shows 0 on the dash. The BMW i3 has a big buffer after 0 but you don't really dare using that range right? Do you shouldn't measure include that range in the range numbers.
It looks like an SUV. If it isn't an SUV I do appreciate the current price as an EV for its size. I can definitely use a vehicle like this for a contract human transportation gig
How appropriate to have Doug ReVOLTa reviewing electric cars :-)
Hi is petrol head and supported by ICE makers.
Come to The Lucky Country, Australia. We don't have any of the cars mentioned in this clip. We are stuck at the greed of the oil companies for our petrol cars.
I went to the bank, I decided not to fill up with petrol on the way to the bank, but rather stop at a bigger petrol station on the way home. In the time it took me to get to the bank and then drive to a petrol station (or more precisely, PAST the petrol station), petrol prices rose by 29 cents per liter.
It was obviously just a coincidence that the prices rose in time for school pick-up's and people finishing work and driving home. Just a coincidence...?
The e-Niro is being launched in Australia at the end of the year. The Hyundai Kona electric should be out very soon, and the Tesla Model 3 should arrive just after mid year. Unfortunately Australia doesn't offer anything like the £3500 grant in the UK to help buy an electric car. It's more worried about the loss of taxes and duty on the petrol you won't be buying if you purchase an electric car.
is this the next generation after the de niro?
