This is why Mr. Colbert has become a really good interviewer. Both this interview and Kirsten Stewart, he's prepared to let the subject just be themselves & the result is charming and individual as you would hope in an entertainment program.
Tom Hollander is one of my favorite British actors since I discovered him in the "Pride and Predjudice" movie. He stole every scene he was in. He could not help himself.
I recently saw an old Johnny Carson show from the 1970's with Truman Capote as one of the guest stars. Tom Hollander has nailed the personification of the author Turman Capote 👍
Has anyone watched Rev? Classic & beautiful Tom Hollander (also he’s a writer on it) whose wife is gorgeously played by the astonishing Olivia Coleman. Other great British actors in it. So funny, sad, inspiring. Highly recommend.
Longtime admirer of Tom Hollander's many theatrical skills here. He does comedy ( in "Rev" the Brit TV series, particularly ) he does drama ( "Baptiste" ) he does everyman down on his luck. Tom Hollander is a brilliant actor. Has been for a long, long time. I haven't seen him play Capote yet but I look forward to it, some day. Glad to see him getting some cheers on this side of the pond, at last.
Mr. Hollander seemed uncomfortable and unsure of himself in the late night talkshow format. Stephen Colbert with great skill and an innate kindness was able to get him on a topic, his son, that allowed him to become comfortable and open up.
What a charming guy. I was someone who wasn't excited about Feud: Capote before I saw it. I assumed it would be a shallow Ryan Murphy telling of the tale. But I was so instantly taken by his astonishing performance, and how it has developed over the episodes. A master actor.
Tom's Capote is so good I couldn't recall what he looks like or sounds. I had forgotten that he was in the latest White Lotus. Such an outstanding actor!
" Us" on PBS is one of the best looks at marriage I've ever seen. Funny, too. Hollander is terrific in it as well as Saskia Reeves. " Rev" is also very good. This gùy is a hard worker.
Wow I have seen a ton of Capote clips but haven’t watched it yet. He truly transformed into that role. I loved the way Stephen called it a harem of women.
I've been a fan of his for years. He captured Truman Capote in Feud. Like uncanny. My acting mentor worked with him on Feud for a day. He told me he was very kind and warm. I was like oh thank goodness. He's got an intensity to him while acting but so charming and very funny so I'm very happy he is a gem in person.
Every day my children are older, I am happier. I love hearing about their observations. I talked to my babies constantly. I got so used to talking to a child constantly, now I can't stop talking even if the child isn't there. 😂
But his is filled with love and he knows he is doing baby talk for a baby-and he wonders when his son stares at him that the little fellow might think he’s an idiot.
❤️🔥✨I so LOVE this MAN! His KING GEORGE, made me a Fan many, many moonS ago and have enjoyed his works since. Your TRUMAN C. is delish 🥰✨🎉CONGRATS on your Baby Boy! ✨🙏🏽💞💕💞💕
Heavens to Betsy. Tom is 56, Naomi is 55 and they have a 6 month old baby! ? Alrighty then. I was 50 when my son was 8 and people called my Grandpa at times....get used to it Hahaha
Massively underrated talent. In Pride and Prejudice (1995) I remembered being so annoyed at that sniveling fiend, Mr. Collins, I vividly recall looking up the actor. Never forgot him.
Seeing the movie clip, I immediately thought: this guy sounds right, but he really doesn't LOOK like... Philip Seymour Hoffman. :D I guess that's true greatness - when people have a better recollection of the movie guy, than of the guy the movie guy portrays. (like Val Kilmer in The Doors) ...and I guess there's nothing harder than to play that same guy again, for another actor, after such a landmark performance. We miss you, Philip.
@@l.a.3479 I know, but that's not the point. Hollander even looks more the part, than Hoffman. The point is: I see Hoffman, when I think of Capote - not Capote himself. :D
4:07 I can relate to his crucial part of this statement completely...except, I have no human loved ones anymore (& I'd never bring one onto this planet for my personal benefit)...so it's a perpetual struggle.
Capote on Dick Cavett, loaded on the Mike Douglas show and PSH is all you really need, other than the books. Tom still has that hard enunciation at the end, not quite there.
Man, Tom Hollander sure has aged a lot. Was I kidnapped by aliens and 30 years has passed on Earth (but only 10 minutes in Alien time) when they returned me ?
This is why Mr. Colbert has become a really good interviewer. Both this interview and Kirsten Stewart, he's prepared to let the subject just be themselves & the result is charming and individual as you would hope in an entertainment program.
Tom Hollander is one of my favorite British actors since I discovered him in the "Pride and Predjudice" movie. He stole every scene he was in. He could not help himself.
Tom is so effortlessly funny, I could listen to him riff on talk shows forever!
He's a magnificent comedian. It seems quite natural.
I didn’t realize he was a comedian because most of my favorite works of his is dramas. And I love In The Loop.
@@thisisit2082Surely In the Loop is a comedy?
I am an American and I watch a lot of British TV and I’ve watched Tom Hollander for years and I’m so glad that he’s getting recognized in the states!
I recently saw an old Johnny Carson show from the 1970's with Truman Capote as one of the guest stars. Tom Hollander has nailed the personification of the author Turman Capote 👍
Great casting choice. He is Capote personified.
This is one of the weirdest interviews ever and I'm loving it. Props to Mr. Hollander and Mr. Colbert.
Tom Holland, Tom Hollander, and we now we just need Tom Hollandest.
You win the comments 😂😂
Ans a Ton Hollandaise
**Tom Hollandaise I apologize, spelling.
Well, going by the basic pattern, Hollander is 56, Holland is 27. So, Hollandest would be born in 2 years.
Tom Netherland
Tom Hollander seems to be just as lovely as I had always imagined he might be...
Has anyone watched Rev? Classic & beautiful Tom Hollander (also he’s a writer on it) whose wife is gorgeously played by the astonishing Olivia Coleman. Other great British actors in it. So funny, sad, inspiring. Highly recommend.
I absolutely LOVED Rev.
I have watched Rev, the best show ever. All time favourite
Liam Neeson as God. A very special set of skills.
Yes! I was just thinking I need to rewatch it!
Additionally, I do, like Stephen, say quite a lot "It’s difficult, difficult...lemon difficult." Lol
Rev was brilliant
Tom Hollander so good in everything he has ever done. Makes an impression in every role big or small. I love him in The Swans.
I can tell you're a great dad! Your little boy is so lucky! After hearing the rest of the interview, I love you even more!
"We can't both wear glasses." That's funny.

Loved Rev.
He played a misanthrope in About Time and was brilliant ❤
You should see him in "The Night Manager." Pure evil.
@@l.a.3479Oh yes! That's a great series. He's evil incarnate, alright. Brilliant performances by all.
Agree 💯@@jabbermocky4520
Tom Hollander's TV work is brilliant! Rev is such fine work🎉
I LOVED Rev
Lovely, underrated actor!
Fell in love with him as George III in _John Adams._ So glad he's getting more roles with recognition.
More recognition, he's done a ton of famous roles.
@@djlads yes, sorry I was unclear, that's what I meant by, "more roles with recognition," that is, roles higher up on the call sheet.
Mr. Hollander seemed uncomfortable and unsure of himself in the late night talkshow format. Stephen Colbert with great skill and an innate kindness was able to get him on a topic, his son, that allowed him to become comfortable and open up.
i think tom knew exactly what he was doing.
You are right but he does open up. He was wonderfully funny and a great raconteur on Seth Myers a week or so ago.
totally underrated and very gifted
What a charming guy. I was someone who wasn't excited about Feud: Capote before I saw it. I assumed it would be a shallow Ryan Murphy telling of the tale. But I was so instantly taken by his astonishing performance, and how it has developed over the episodes. A master actor.
Tom Hollander's great as Capote, but I think it also helps that Murphy only co-wrote this one and didn't direct it.
I could listen to Tom Hollander for hours
Do you think he does audiobooks??
Tom's Capote is so good I couldn't recall what he looks like or sounds. I had forgotten that he was in the latest White Lotus. Such an outstanding actor!
Pride and Prejudice, Pirates of the Caribbean, White Lotus...this guy elevates everything he's in.
He was so fun in About Time. Such a good actor.
I miss “Rev” but they probably couldn’t even schedule a cast reunion now.
You left out "The Night Manager." He's pure evil in that.
asfff!! ❤
Huge fan of his for decades. He is so talented
Wonderful actor.
This was an oddly dark interview but still humor undertones. Tom is so beloved. He must know that.
You know someone is a Major Talent when you fall in love with a character and then see the Actor and go 'Wow!! That's the guy?'
“It’s been many years since I’ve had such an exemplary vegetable.” POTATO. 🥔
To which of my fair cousins should I compliment the excellence of the cooking?
I was waiting for this delicious reference - such an awesome movie
His performance as truman was phenomenal.
what a wonderful dad -- keep up the great work, mister hollander.
One of our very best actors.
This is beautiful.
Might this be the most adorable interview ever?!🤗
Have him back! He's adorable!
Emmy Winning Performance!👍

The love of a parent.
this is the greatest Colbert celebrity interview ever
😂❤🎉 congratulations on the baby 💕
He was hilarious in Bedrooms and Hallways. He was also great as Mr Collins in Pride & Prejudice.
That's where I first saw Tom Hollander. Great cast, along with Hugo Weaving, Kevin McKidd, James Purefoy and Simon Callow.
He's also great in The Night Manager. Pure evil.
I hated his character in The Night Manager but the actor is absolutely charming. Can’t wait to see the new film.
He's pure evil in that. The Night Manager was full of great acting performances.
@@l.a.3479 It was. Hugh Laurie was frightening in that movie. The tension was there the whole time. Great film.
Team Hollander, here
He strikes me as a british Paul Giamatti
Wow I have seen a ton of Capote clips but haven’t watched it yet. He truly transformed into that role. I loved the way Stephen called it a harem of women.
Thia was a delightful interview!
Been a fan of him since Pride and Prejudice, Pirates of the Caribbean, John Adams etc. Glad he is finally getting the fame he deserves.
Cutler Beckett?
It's Lord now, actually.
Forgiving, and being forgiven, are the two (2) greatest joys in life. Excel at both, and you win! 💯

Naomi Watts is not Tom’s wife.....
The Brits are just so good.
Remember him in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and Pride and Predjudice. Good actor. Tom H.
You should see him in The Night Manager.
His physical comedy is brilliant in Pride&Prejudice. Pirates too.
Mr. Collins!
anyone remember him as Saffie's love interest on early AbFab?
Yes! With all that hair!!
This is exactly how I would picture Mr. Collins as a new father

Mr. Hollander has it exactly right on child-rearing. Take it from this full time Mr. Mom!

No not 12 anymore Steven. Everything is so much sooner now - my 5 year old asked : Why do I always feel the anger first?
