    He's pointing out an extremely important element of raising a healthy, stable child with proper self-esteem, namely the need for social validation but it's not enough for parents to shower a child with praise, he needs his peers to validate him as well or even more and one of the best ways is to have the child active in sports, which will also teach him the importance of goal setting and delayed gratification, they won't get fat, it's a win win even if he or she doesn't turn into a pro athlete, it doesn't matter.

    I believe Heroin addiction is and always was frowned upon in criminal circles because - as a general rule- heroin addicts are far easier to compromise esp. while in the throes of withdrawal in custody. 31.00min also its always been frowned upon as the end of the road as addiction goes.
    Back in the day when certain constabularies were known to use a hit as an inducement to roll over.

    Look at times when you've messed up or for into trouble, is there a common factor at play i.e alcohol, is it essential to you, if not substitute it with something. Instead of buying beer, get innocent smoothie or s something healthy, go to the gym instead of pubs to replace the social hit. Your life and body will thank u

    I never realized how much drugs ravaged the UK until I started watching these interviews and other British crime channels on RUclips. It’s like everyone is affected by it from using or selling! I’m in Boston and you can go outside for a hr to see how bad the drug problem is even in the suburbs. We have a place in the inner city called methadone mile where a bunch of addicts stay in a shelter but are outside for the day. It literally looks like the Michael Jackson thriller video when you go at night. I’ve seen people with poop all over their pants and hand begging for change lol. I honestly feel bad because you know they don’t want to be in that position but addiction has consumed their life. A lot of them just give up trying to get clean and just use until they die. They have a methadone clinic across the street from the shelter too. So they’re never sick, they take their methadone and than go out trying to hustle up some money for fentanyl or crack. Idk if I agree with just giving them methadone without a plan of getting off one day. Methadone withdrawals are just as bad if not worst than fentanyl. People who never been through withdrawals have no idea how bad it is. When you read about it they just make it seem like a flu but I would take the flu 10x over one withdrawal. After the physical part is over like throwing up, diarrhea,muscle pain and other symptoms. The mental part comes and it’s ROUGH! Like they said the brain is a crazy thing! The depression, anxiety, insomnia,anhedonia, depersonalization, suicidal ideation,guilt,shame and regret. All at once is just too much for some people, that’s why relapse rates are so high. Imagine not feeling happy about anything for a year or two at a time, imagine not sleeping right for a year straight and living with the regret of doing drugs in the first place. On top of all of that you have to sit there an try to rebuild your life while you watch friends buy homes and new cars with their gf or bf. You are just trying to get a job, get your license back, save some money, repair relationships, and a lot of other things. Drugs just ruin everything and you don’t care until you’re clean and think to yourself “what now”. For anyone who is drug free I salute you and PLEASE don’t think you can experiment without getting hooked. Every addict thought they were in control at a time until they lose everything. The minute you use drugs, you lost control of your life. Even weed can ruin your life if you have a addictive personality. I’ve watched friend go homeless because they spend all their money on weed, living in a Drop top BMW with a custom paint job lol. I go in his car one day and he has a pillow, blanket, cereal, milk and plastic bowls/spoons! It was one of the saddest things I’ve seen, I offered him a room for a while but he had too much pride. Now he lives with a girl who literally weighs 300+ pounds. If you take the weed addiction out he would probably own a home and multiple cars. He just can’t stop or even slow down. Sorry for the long post but I hope this helps someone before they ruin their life. If you’re depressed please be patient and try other things instead of going to drugs. That’s what I did after a bad break up and I regret it so much. I’m not going to lie, opioids do help when you’re depressed. You just numb yourself mentally and physically but when you get clean all of those feeling hit you like a train.

    Genuinely can't get over I've missed this podcast nearly seen them all. I'm from clydebank and now stay in Dumbarton. I've heard stories about "dempster" who ran the drugs in the vale dumbarton Helensburgh etc back in the 80s and 90s Heard stories about the hash runs and the "convoy" didn't realise they where an actual traveler family. Amazing listen big man makes its all the better getting surprised seeing the face to the man youve heard stories of growing up.

  • @Thatmanfox
    @Thatmanfox 3 года назад

    I love the podcasts mate, but I have a small criticism, not that I can do better, just a point to make is all.
    Firstly I suffer with mental health on and off, I am now disabled after long term injuries and have taken prescribed pain medication for 12 years now, each period gradually increasing dosage, so you can imagine the strength I am on now. There’s no need to promote the drug, which is why I haven’t named any.
    I love hearing the stories, everyone has one, and that’s why you have such a successful podcast, because of the calibre of guest.
    What I don’t particularly enjoy is the psychological diagnosis as to why people acted a particular way, or turned in a different direction because of x,y and z. I’m not saying you are wrong so to speak, but not every addict is borne out of a specific set of circumstances that happened in their life. Some people simply make poor choices, a lot of people make lazy choices, or are trying to show off etc. I accept some folk turn to substances which are the symptom of a greater issue, but some folk simply turn to drugs because they have been glorified in movies, or who didn’t apply themselves in school and found themselves unable to find the life they had planned for themselves. What I am trying to say is, not everyone who is showing off is doing this because their dad never gave them attention, and not every kid who started drinking at 13 is trying to numb themselves from a trauma, and not every addict parent has addict children.
    There are so many variables, and while in some cases they are relevant, it just seems that every episode now seems to have triggers for the poor decisions people have made.
    As I said, I’m not saying you are wrong in any way at all, just that this particular part of the conversations seem quite repetitive and I lose focus on the show.
    I hope this is taken well, as I am a fan and wish you well, I know you’d respect the honesty and would want the feedback.
    Take care 👍

    Hi James another great podcast with mark dempster growing up in partick when he was younger must have been quite difficult like other places all over Glasgow and the rest of country most people being brought up in low income areas have a high chance of following what people call the norm either offending getting into crime drink and drugs if that’s the sort of environment we live in it plays a big part in people’s life some people manage to get through it with no problems and others can’t see away without getting into trouble that doesn’t make us bad people it’s part of life growing up in the most difficult areas when I see some of the guests you’ve had on your shows a lot of them have turned their lives around and done a great job and that also means you as well James seeing you sharing the experiences you’ve encountered in your life and how hard things was for at times you wouldn’t think you had any problems you are such a natural laid back guy and when the guests come on your show they look so relaxed and comfortable talking to you with ease I would like say once again James keep the anything goes podcasts coming big yin mr Colin Corcoran
