epiphany is a weird song for me but i hold it close to my heart because folklore came out the day i joined the army and i was TERRIFIED but when i saw the tracklist i claimed epiphany and with the first verse being about a soldier at war, it felt like the universe telling me i was doing the right thing

Here's an idea! Taylor Swift announces a world tour tomorrow. Come up with a setlist that would be YOUR best case scenario (if you had full control over the tour), and then come up with a more REALISTIC setlist that may be closer to what we actually get.

I also just don’t particularly enjoy, “I know places”. There is no real reason that I don’t like it… I just don’t.

Somehow Taylor is not something you outgrow. I’m 72, yes it’s a little embarrassing but as long as she keeps making better and better music I will keep listening. My first exposure to Taylor was the Teardrops video. What I saw was a young girl being exploited. Changed my mind and jumped into her discography after seeing her perform ATW on the Grammys. Love your insights into the early years I missed

taylor really really needs to do rock/punk versions of some of her songs tbh.. i mean we've seen the rock version of we are never ever getting back together and we know that she's covered songs like untouchable in fearless and i believe covered neon trees in concert so she's def been interested

i think the most controversial and unpopular opinion i have is that this is why we can’t have nice things is severely underrated. it’s my favorite song from rep. i also rank rep second to last out of all her albums bc i find i skip so many songs on it. ready for it, end game, so it goes, new year’s day, gorgeous (sometimes), all skips

i absolutely agree on lover being taylors weakest album. its not that bad but its definitely not the best one and i will never understand swifties on tiktok that are attacking people for putting lover lower on their ranking lists.

Ty for answering my question on future genres :) I agree - would love to see some rock vibes from Taylor. I think it would be a good way to transition away from pop princess as she matures. I also think the rock genre could be quite diverse for her - it could include pop rock as you mentioned, pop punk (which could go down well, given how popular Olivia Rodrigo’s good 4 u has been) and some rock folk, which would link to evermore.
I disagree with a lot of your worst songs per album (except Lover’s Me’ because that was an attack on us) but that’s okay because your delivery is iconic as per usual! Do you think she will release a perfume line (TV) during Speak Now re-recording?

The king of my heart bridge is so catchy though. It's one of those songs that I wouldn't care for otherwise but the bridge is so life giving that I have to like it.

re the 1989 vaults - where does the idea that there were 100 songs written for 1989 come from? I feel like it’s similar to the “10 minute ATW” urban legend…but I also think it’s possible that she was SO manically determined to write the album of her career that she wrote at least 10 more songs (not 100). whether she would be willing to release those songs is another matter…
I actually have no idea. my knowledge of taylor's history is pretty encyclopaedic, and I can't even place where that came from. it usually comes from rep stans lmao but I'd like to see the evidence of her saying that

hi i’ve just been over here binging your videos but the “if this was a movie” rant you did about the bridge is something i’ve thought about for so long. like the lyrics i sing are based off the lyrics online but i agree that no one actually knows what she’s saying including me so thank you for reigniting that fire inside me lol 😂

I just thought I'd throw it out there... I love Daylight - it's no where near my favorite on the album, but I do love it - and I'm an OG fan. I've been listening to her music since Tim McGraw dropped on CMT.
Funny enough, I agree with all your dislikes. As much as I love Taylor and her amazing lyrics, the songs you mentioned you don’t like probably resonates with her a lot more but not for me personally.
I’ve read somewhere about a theory on Dorothea. Apparently it’s about her friendship with Selena as that’s her favourite character from the Wizard of Oz. Not sure how truthful that is but that made me like the song more!

Dear John (Taylor's Version) is sponsoring my Kleenex box budget in preparation and I have 911 on stand by because I don't think I'm going to make it through Speak Now (TV) in one piece. Especially not if Safe and Sound/Eye's Open are vault tracks (I don't see why they wouldn't be).

Ooh also Paper Rings and Dorothea are both in the same key and follow nearly the same chord progression, except Dorothea uses G where Paper Rings uses Bm. Maybe you don’t like the tones of the progression in that key - it’s kinda interesting that even though the vibes of those songs are different, they’re melodically similar!
i love how ur not annoying about taylor’s version. liek we ALL know that most of the time the original just has something abt that makes it better 😊

Okay I totally agree with your opinions about the ‘stay x3’ and ‘paper rings’ category songs, though I can’t really pin down exactly what I don’t like about them. Maybe it’s because they have this weird brightness that kinda feels awkward and almost unsettling? to me Idk why. Taylor’s brighter-feel songs like Fearless, Today Was A Fairytale, Enchanted (still in shock 6-y.o me was right about this being the underdog of the decade she just got the decade wrong), etc. are usually my favourites off an album so maybe I also just judge those songs harsher and therefore dislike stay x3, paper rings, dorothea and komh and all that more than the average Swiftie?

Apparently we're like a month apart in age! I have the same memories with 1989's release (as couple months before my 18th birthday) and I experienced the 1989 tour right before moving away to college... Seriously such a moment, such a vibe.

I agree with you on King Of My Heart. I want to like that song but the "King of my heart, body and soul" completely takes me out of the song and I feel like the addition of body and soul is super weird. It would've been fine just leaving it at king of my heart.
i feel like a good title if her debut wasn't self titled would be Butterfly since that's a huge visual in the debut era and because shes going through teenage hood till she bursts out of her cocoon like a butterfly

THANKS for the i know places hate, i also hate it because growing up my parents hated taylor so i wasnt allowed to heard 1989 i only knew the radio hits and one day they decided i could listen to the whole album when i got back from school and that day at school we had indoor recess and the teach put a FIVE NIGHTS AND FREDDYS DANCE GONOODLE VIDOE with i know places as the "music" for it she was like 'this song fits the vibe of the video its my fav song from the new ts album" and in that moment I wanted to kms and i almost didnt want to hear the album because of how much that traumatized me and now i cant unhear it.
I happen to find I know places A PERFECT POP SONG it elivers the exact vibe that it should .
Am I the only one that actually likes 'A Place In This World'? 😂 it is very Disney-ish tbf but at the age that I was when I first heard it, I loved those songs and even now the nostalgia creeps in so I actually do unironically really like it 😂 the song I don't mind eliminating on Debut would probably be 'The Outside'
On Fearless for me, it's a tough one but probably 'Breathe' cause I just think it's forgettable

1989 - I know this is an unpopular opinion but I honestly just don't understand the hype for AYHTDWS 😂 I just think it's boring and a bit annoying
Reputation - Probably Ready For It or End Game just so she'd pick better songs as singles lol
Lover - ME! (no contest) although there's probably a fair amount of songs I would be ready to cut out of the tracklist 😂also as a fan since like Fearless, I have to say I like Daylight 🤧 I get your point about it seeming forced but also the sound is nice and that throwback to Red felt special at the time, and also when I first listened to Lover I was pretty disappointed so this was actually one of the 4 or 5 highlights for me
Folklore - While I agree Taylor should stay out of politics, I actually think this was really well-executed in Epiphany, it's not forced and it's inspired by her grandfather as well as the situation we were in at the time. I'm in the UK which was very badly hit by Covid and every day the number of deaths from Covid would be announced on TV in the evening, and at one point it was over 1000 deaths per day. Our healthcare system couldn't handle the number of cases and doctors and nurses saw nothing but death and grief every day. It was honestly extremely depressing, scary, and did feel like a war of sorts, so the parallel to war makes perfect sense. A song I would cut from this album might be Invisible String - it's cute but now that Mastermind's out I think it's negated 😂
Evermore - maybe the title track, I've listened to it the least
Now that Midnights is out I wonder what your answer for that would be (I place my bets on The Great War? loool) but for me, the song I would cut would be Glitch, I just don't vibe with it

You can try out an artist called "The Midnight" They specialize in Synthpop. I'd suggest you listening to Los Angeles or Lost Boy! They are great!

I skipped Debut because I haven't listened to it all the way through. When I got into Taylor, I was excited to listen to Speak Now, Red, and 1989. Fearless TV came out a few weeks later, so I forgot Debut existed (no pun intended). I think all the singles from Debut are pretty good, though, and I actually like A Place in This World.
AYHTDWS is his favorite 1989 song and in his top 10 lmfaoo

- objectively best (as above- Dear John and CIWYW)
- most iconic/groundbreaking (Mine and LWYMMD)
- ones I revisit the most (Sparks Fly and Dress)

I LOVE king of my heart but am not a fan of paper rings, stayx3, or dorthea but rep is my fav album so KOMH might be an exception. I’ve been a swiftie since 08 and I feel like I’m not the biggest fan of the “bleep bloop” songs because I just feel like the most genuine songs that we’ve seen from her have some sort of insight or indication that explains why she is so appreciative of the happiness or details that have very universal experiences that allow us to connect to them more. Eg: lover with the Christmas lights, begin again with the first date, they all feel like they are sourced from a feeling not a specific situation. The genuine happiness and personal details can make the happy gel pen songs feel hard to relate to and love because of this crazy high standard she’s set with her music. It’s strange because none of them are bad songs it’s just our favorites are usually our favorites because of every way we relate to them and the “bleep bloop” songs feel like the antithesis of why we love the ones we love. Paper rings especially to me is just kind of in happy this was made of my happiness and I’m in this space so I can’t even see negativity or any experience other than my own (which is awesome!). Sorry for the ramble, love the channel :)
Actually Taylor planned to name her first album "A Place In This World" but then she came up with the idea of just calling it Taylor Swift

As for your list of least favorite songs - a common thread I see is that most of them are more happy/hopeful tracks? I don’t think that means you dislike happy music, but rather that Taylor may be better at writing melancholy music, or that she’s more practiced at exercising that muscle.
Wait but isn’t Superman about John Mayer?? Like the chorus line “I loved you from the very first day” is the secret message to Dear John, John has a song where he says “I wanna be Superman”, also the lines “I hope you don’t take some other girl” and “I’m lovestruck” - I don’t think those would be directed at her dad? Lol
But I’ve seen some people say the song could have multiple meanings/be directed at multiple people so maybe it’s that!

I hate the chorus of king of my heart it sounds like she's being censored. It's like she didn't know what to write in the chorus so she put gasps between the lyrics of the pre chorus and it didn't work for me. If she did what she did with ready for it, I would like it a little more. It feels so good to get that out of the way.

8:13 the tie between Stay Stay Stay, KOMH, Paper Rings, and Dorothea is twee. They're all (to some degrees more so than others) laced (KOMH & Dorothea) or doused (Stay Stay Stay & Paper Rings) with twee. They're all on their manic pixie dream girl Zooey Deschanel vintage dresses 2012 BS.
