Also, Jacaerys' absolute baller move at the supper. Aegon taunts him about not showing a woman ' a good time', and he then proceeds to dance with Aegon's unhappy wife, literally giving her a good time (from the completely happy smile on her face at the simple joy of dancing). Clapbacks do not come better than that.

Honestly this is the happiest possible ending for Viserys. On his last day of life he gathered enough strength to walk on his own all the way to the Iron Throne (where thankfully his brother helped him the rest of the way), managed to get his family together for a final dinner, and miraculously managed (if only for a brief moment) to bring the family back together.
Yes he was in agonizing pain, but his last thoughts before he died were of his family gathered around him and having a genuinely happy dinner.
This episode was also slightly triggering for me because mother fought stage 3a breast cancer on and off for almost 10 years and when the radiation and chemotherapy hit her their hardest she looked as pale, thin, and drained of energy as Viserys did. And just like Viserys my mom fought longer and harder than anyone thought a human being was capable of. So while it was only for a brief moment I was so happy that Viserys actually got to see his family happy and together again.

To me, the most tragic part of the dinner is that you can see a brief glimpse of how good Alicent and Rhaenyra would have been if they worked together. And both of them seem to realize it too. Unfortunately, it's ten years too late. One night of goodwill cannot mend the rift because they've already poisoned the well for the next generation and, with Viserys' death, there are no more opportunities for healing.

After all, there was a massive amount of time where Otto wasnt even around to influence her. Not saying that Allicent is the sole problem or that Otto isnt a fuck. The problem just has way more to it than just "Otto is a fuck"

And also when Rhaenyra & Daemon come to see him & later Rhaenyra alone... They're on the side that's not rotting away. This is easily my favorite episode of the season, and the scene with Viseyrs hobbling toward the throne is one of my top (if not my favorite) scenes in all the GOT universe. Such heavy tension in the room, powerful emotion in the presence, and all around superb acting by all those involved--especially Paddy. When his crown falls and Daemon is there to place it back atop his head is when my tears always fall. This episode also solidifies that Daemon truly does care for his family. We see it in the way he cannot bear to make eye contact with his brother on his death bed (it pains him to see Viseyrs that way); we see it in the way he treated young Rhaenyra early on in the series (even making a genuine effort to comfort her at her mother's funeral); and we certainly see it here, when he beheads Vaemond for insulting both his wife and children. My heart is SO IMMENSELY HEAVY for poor Viseyrs. An exceptionally well-written character with a truly tragic tale. He wanted only peace and I was in some ways glad he got to go out the way he did (even if the peace he finally got to see would be short-lived).

Daemon & Aemond look more like father & son than Viserys & Aemond do - LOL. During that epic stare down between them, their inner thoughts were probably "Geez, it's like I'm looking in the mirror at my younger/older self." Similar features & "don't take no shit" personalities in both the uncle & nephew. During the throne room scene, You can see how Aemond admired the way Daemon handled the disrespect that Vaemond was showing by calling out Rhaenyra & her sons and flat out insulting the King to his face. Oh yeah, he's gonna die now but that was pretty bad ass scene. Ok, well bye-bye Vaemond, it was nice knowing ya... 😵
It's getting difficult keeping all these "aemon" names straight & now we have another Aegon (the younger) to confuse with Alicent's Aegon. I need to start writing all this down, my old brain can't keep up. 😄Plus another little Viserys, but he's just a toddler & old Vis is gone now so... The scene of him fighting to walk on his own to the throne, the bedside scenes with Rhaenyra, & then his death upon seeing Aemma again were so sad. But the real heart wrenching one for me was when Daemon helped Viserys up to the throne & placed the crown back on his head... 😢

Viserys' empty eye socket and face rotting away on the side where the Hightowers sit at the dinner table and his good eye on the side where Rhaenyra and Daemon and their children sit. delicious symbolism. This also showed that alicent knows exactly who aegon is and what kind of person he is and knows deep down in her soul that he is unfit to rule the realm but is still willing to go to war with house targaryen to put him on the throne after she heard what she wanted to hear from viserys and it effectively proves that despite her moments of kindness and humility that she still chose power in the end over everything else including her own family’s safety and what was best for the realm…..(slight spoilers mention) and this decision unfortunately seals her fate and the tragedy that will befall her children and grandchildren.

So he is saying Aegon (meaning the conquerer not his son) and story about uniting the North and the South, Ice and Fire. With regard to Rheneyra ruling to do so, it is HER JOB. So powerful & moving. As soon as the throne room went silent, the doors opening & the King’s Guard knight started bellowing his titles: “King Viserys of House Targaryen. The first of his name. King of the Andals, and the Rhoynar, and the First Men. Lord of the Seven Kingdoms. Protector of the Realm” as King Viserys walked in weakened but like a boss, he showed he was a tough mofo & a legend. That should make anyone even the most stoic person a bit teary eyed. Viserys did that walk which required Herculean effort in his frail state was done purely on love & will.
Then when Viserys turned to see his brother Daemon supporting him & showing his brotherly love by helping him get up the thrones stairs, it made all viewers tear up & get goose bumps. What a scene! Intesiboe acting by Paddy & Matt. It got Adam & Jay emotional. Ramin Djawadi also did some of his best music here that just added that much more Emotional depth to the scene. From my understanding during Game of Thrones because the Velaryons were loyal to the Targaryens during Robert's Rebellion, their standing was lowered by the Baratheons when they took over the Seven Kingdoms but they were allowed to keep their lands and titles, much like the Hightowers and any other major house that was loyal to the Targaryens. Robert made his brother Stannis the Master of Ships and gave him Dragonstone to be the Overlord of the Blackwater Bay region in Westeros which included Driftmark. House Velaryon aided Stannis Baratheon when he fought for his claim on the Iron Throne after Robert's death but the Velaryons suffered heavy losses in the Battle of Blackwater Bay which included the death of Monford Velaryon, who was the head of House Velaryon at the time. His son, Monterys Velaryon becomes the new head of House Velaryon but he is only a young child and Driftmark for the most part is ignored after that until Cersei Lanister promotes Monford Velaryon's bastard son Aurane Waters, a survivor of the Battle of Blackwater Bay the new Master of Ships but he betrays Cersei and takes his brand new fleet of expensive ships courtesy of Cersei Lannister to be a Pirate Lord of the Stepstones.

  • @angelcarrillo71

Not a lore expert, but from what I remember from the books, the Velaryon's where historically the master of ships in the council and subservient to Dragonstone, which belonged to the heir to the throne/Targeryen. During Robert's Rebellion, they backed the Targeryens and all the houses that did, were pushed off to the side in favor of the houses that backed Robert. In the events of GOT, not sure if the show mentions it, but they back Stannis in the War of the Five Kings as he was the lord of Dragonstone. It gets a little murky for me here, but I know that the head of Driftmark is killed in the Battle of Blackwater Bay. I think Tyrion has an epic battle in one of their main ships. And last I remember of them, is that the bastard brother called Aurane Waters, is named the new master of ships by Cersei in part to win them over to her side and because she starts having an affair with him. He's supposed to resemble a true Targeryen. She commissions him to build a fleet for the crown and intend to send them off to sack Highgarded, the Tyrell home as war between Cersei and Margery is looming, but then Cersei is imprisoned by the High Sparrow and Aurane takes the fleet dips out. It is said that he becomes a pirate with his fleet in the stepstones and I don't think he's mentioned again. That fits inline with the Valeryon blood and love of the sea.

There are still Valaryon's in GoT. They sided with Stannis. They aren't a powerful house anymore, as they lost most of their wealth. Corlys is the one who made their house powerful.

Notice how Aemond didn't do anything until Luke started laughing at him when the pig was brought? Luke deserved to get some ribbing after that. Also how Aegon immediately went for the other nephew when shit popped off and before that Aemond stood up ready to defend Aegon. The brothers are definitely in-sync with oneanother

King Viserys be like... "I wish I've been tested as a king.".
You've been tested alright... to the very last breath.

Daemon loved his brother more than anything, he genuinely wanted to be his Hand to help him, it broke his heart that Viserys didn't want him as his hand but this just shows Daemon was always going to be there for Viserys, Daemon wasn't bothered about the throne he just wanted his family to be strong and was willing to do anything to make it so
