Your husband doesn't know the history of Gdańsk. The city was 86% destroyed. It was destroyed by the Russians after driving out the German troops. The city was senselessly destroyed, women and children raped and killed, everything of value was stolen. It was very similar in Poznań and in many other Polish cities. The Russians are doing the same thing in Ukraine today. Granary Island, where there are so many new buildings and a marina, was an island of ruins for 60 years. There is a Nobel book and a film on this subject. Title of the book and film 'The Tin Drum' - Blaszany bębenek. The crowd in the city is related to the Dominican Fair. St. Fair Dominika is a cyclical commercial and cultural event that takes place every year in August in Gdańsk in the Main Town. It is the largest outdoor event of this type in Europe, next to Weihnachtsmarkt and Oktoberfest. The tradition of the Fair is over 750 years old, since it was established by a papal bull of Alexander IV in 1260 at the request of the Dominicans. This is where its name comes from.
