While everyone is complaining about their fragile masculinities, I’m sitting here going crazy over the way they placed down their blocks and have yet to see a comment addressing that lol
For those commenting about translations and debating if this was homophobic or not... Korea is a country where being homosexual is generally looked down upon. It comes to no surprise that a lot of Koreans view homosexual relationships as "abnormal". The translation is a bit skewed, that is correct; however, that does not mean that he is not being homophobic. As you can see with many other comments, Korea is a very conservative country in which anything "non traditional" in terms of things like romance are once again, looked down upon. As you might have inferred, there is a huge cultural gap between Korea and other countries. Please understand that the man in the grey sweater probably didn't mean any harm or mean to offend anyone, it is what Korea views as normal. Personally, I do not condone what he said, and I think Korea should be more accepting of these sorts of things, but unfortunately I don't see that happening any time soon. As with most countries, Korea is flawed in many ways. Not many are aware, but Korea has some ugly sides to it. It is the type of country where people will literally go up to you and tell you something along the lines of "You're ugly, you should get plastic surgery!", or "You've been gaining weight, you need to go on a diet!". This is one of many reasons Korea has many victims of bullying and much worse. Luckily, in many other countries, people are more accepting of body types, sexualities and more, and I hope with all my heart that Korea will eventually be the same way, or at least more accepting. If you are angry at what they said, I would urge you to please not hold it against them personally, it is more of Korea as a nation more than the individuals inside of it. Though I really do hate that they said these things instead of being at LEAST a little more neutral, I believe they might be scared where if they seem okay with it, they might also be looked at with judgmental eyes by their peers. Supporting or being LGBT in Korea is very hard as is, so I personally believe people are scared of supporting it as they feel like their entire country will look at them in a very uncomfortable manner. I would like to state that I once again, do not like that Korea looks down upon homosexual relationships and many other things, and culture differences does not excuse being homophobic. As a last word to leave off on though, please picture yourself in a scenario where your entire country looks down upon something, it is hard to speak positively or even neutrally about that thing. It takes a very strong person to speak out against things they feel are right and wrong against a larger group who thinks the opposite way, but it can be viewed on the borderline of stupidity and courage for many.
People are just jumping at the chance to be offended. As someone who is straight you rarely think about gay/lesbian couples so your natural instinct is couple = male/female. That is also the vast majority of couples that exist statistically. So why should everyone have to walk on egg shells for saying one thing. What was he supposed to say "oh also gays and lesbians". @@darkvader9217 ??? girl and boy means a romantic relationship. boy and boy means friendship on this context so I don't understand what you mean with Korean fetish girl.
@@darkvader9217 it's a direct translation of the phrase. It sounds wrong in English since that's not how english speakers express romantic love. they just say a romantic relationship or whatever. His English isn't perfect so he just translated from his mother tongue. So yes it most probably is a translation error. Also you can tell by the reaction of the other guy that what I said is most probably right. He understood it as romantic love versus friendship as well
Apparently it's a translation error, what he meant to say was that the game is for actual couples in a romantic relationship rather than two friends. The way he translated it was a bit wonky because it a fixed expression in korean so when he translated it into English it sounded kinda homophobic when he really meant that they didn't have the relationship the game was designed for.

Jaewon had Taesang glitching! 😂 It's ok, Taesang! Jaewon makes people glitch out even thru the monitor screen. Only sitting inches away, you didn't stand a chance! ✌️😉
My thoughts about 00:35 and his word choice: For context, the PD started to ask if they knew about Couple Jenga, the Jaewon ended up responding about regular Jenga, and the PD reclarified asking about knowing what Couple Jenga was. Taesang responds (in a different translation): "It's like/is similar to Jenga that people of opposite gender play together." From purely a linguistic standpoint, the word he chooses to use "이성" from the Chinese 異性, which means opposite gender/heterosexual, so he did mean to say between men and women. (For reference, homosexual is "동성" from the Chinese 同性) I'm led to believe he knew what he was saying and meant to reference heterosexual couples, because he also had the option of using 애인 or (non-gendered) lovers (to reference that only lovers play Couple Jenga, and he and Jaewon aren't a couple), but he didn't, so... Just my thoughts, but also if someone has better linguistic skills/understanding, please correct me.
@X R I purposefully didn't, I was just giving context to all the comments trying to explain the word choices he made and used hahaha Just wanted to give people more information to make that extrapolation, I have my personal opinion 🤣
이성 is "opposite gender" but not "heterosexual". Same with 동성. It is "same gender" but not "homosexual". Heterosexual and homosexual mean you love certain gender: opposite and same sex, respectively. The words 이성 and 동성 themselves do not say anything about sexuality.

So rather than bashing on Taesang, please try to correct him instead. Also, in Korea, the culture is close minded and hasn't quite accepted lgbtq+. It's not an excuse to why he said that, but I'm saying that it'll take time for much of Korea to change their mindset and the way they refer to those things

Lol ... yeah that was not cool .
do you know why he said that? because in the korean language when they say something is romantic love or for couples, they use the fixed expression "between man and woman", that means romantic love. So he was directly translating that fixed expression to english, but of course it didn't give the same meaning in english
@@VoVina111 still isn't that still heteronormativity, like he could've just said "not between us" or "only for couples"
Well if you see the rest of the comments, I think you might understand why he said that🤷🏽♀️.
@@morros.sternum well yes, I'm not saying the expression is okay, I'm just explaining why he said it like that. To him it sounded normal because that's how they refer to "romantic love". And he said "not between man and man" because he was trying to convey that it's not used for brotherly love/male friendship but exclusively for romance.

about the grey sweater guy being "homophobic"
He said that because in the korean language when they say something is romantic love or for couples, they use the fixed expression "between man and woman", that means romantic love. So he was directly translating that fixed expression to english, but of course it didn't give the same meaning in english. @@darkvader9217 ??? girl and boy means a romantic relationship. boy and boy means friendship on this context so I don't understand what you mean with Korean fetish girl.
@@daadaa6356 he said that in fucking english.. it's not a translation error and he meant it just as it is
@@darkvader9217 maybe they meant it’s a direct trans of the phrase so he said it aloud, but the phrase is still homophobic.
He understood it as romantic love versus friendship as well
I'm impressed by how they can balance those pieces. How do they even do that 😳
Did he just say only straight people can play it-

Apparently it's a translation error, what he meant to say was that the game is for actual couples in a romantic relationship rather than two friends. My thoughts about 00:35 and his word choice:
For context, the PD started to ask if they knew about Couple Jenga, the Jaewon ended up responding about regular Jenga, and the PD reclarified asking about knowing what Couple Jenga was.
Taesang responds (in a different translation): "It's like/is similar to Jenga that people of opposite gender play together."
From purely a linguistic standpoint, the word he chooses to use "이성" from the Chinese 異性, which means opposite gender/heterosexual, so he did mean to say between men and women. (For reference, homosexual is "동성" from the Chinese 同性)
I'm led to believe he knew what he was saying and meant to reference heterosexual couples, because he also had the option of using 애인 or (non-gendered) lovers (to reference that only lovers play Couple Jenga, and he and Jaewon aren't a couple), but he didn't, so...
Just my thoughts, but also if someone has better linguistic skills/understanding, please correct me.
@X R I purposefully didn't, I was just giving context to all the comments trying to explain the word choices he made and used hahaha
Just wanted to give people more information to make that extrapolation, I have my personal opinion 🤣
이성 is "opposite gender" but not "heterosexual". Same with 동성. It is "same gender" but not "homosexual". Heterosexual and homosexual mean you love certain gender: opposite and same sex, respectively. The words 이성 and 동성 themselves do not say anything about sexuality.
You cant defend something

I'm pretty sure Taesang was referring to him and Jaewon. After Taesang said "Not, boys boys," Jaewon responded with "It's possible though" and Taesang seemed to acknowledge it. The editors could have taken that part out but didn't.
