    We are hit in all directions as we try to wrap up our summer building projects. We’re working to complete our septic drain, and we still have over half of our deck to finish before the rainy season begins. But we’re hit with sickness in our family and the terribly high temperatures.
    One thing we’ve learned after a year on our build, though, is that even small progress is progress. So we build when we can, and rest when necessary. Follow along to see if we can tie up all of these loose ends on our own.
    And now a little back story on us, in case you just found us on RUclips. We’re Sara and Ryan. We are your average suburban family, but 9 years ago, we purchased a raw piece of land in the Hood Canal in Washington. We’ve been developing this piece of property slowly, and this year we knew it was time to go all in. So we purchased a log cabin kit home and decided that 2020 would be the year we built a house on our property. We plan to build this cabin (as much as we can) on our own.
    Unfortunately, COVID-19 put a delay on our cabin kit being produced and delivered in the time frame we had originally planned. While we could have just waited it out and pushed back starting on the build of our home, we decided to shift gears and change our course for the time being. We purchased a 30 foot yurt, and will be setting it up as additional living space when we begin to build our cabin.
    In the summer of 2021, we FINALLY moved to the Hood Canal so we could start the build of our future home. While we are building our home, we are living in a camper trailer and the yurt that we built in the summer of 2020. We hope to have our cabin kit home built by the summer of 2022. Just my husband and I are building the house. We get help here and there from friends along the way and we do plan to get help on the roof but other than that we are doing it all on our own.
    Follow along with us as we build our dream in the Hood Canal.

    It’s very good to finally be able to remove obstacles as your house progresses, like ditches, mounds of dirt and piles of wood, isn’t it!!

    Why are you putting the joists in before the trenches are filled underneath them?

    • @OneFootOfftheGrid
      @OneFootOfftheGrid  2 года назад

      It’s only covering a small portion of the trench and we can still access that area from the side to backfill. Shouldn’t be an issue.

    Your CHANEL poped up. I watched it. Been a commercial Plummer long time. Navy plumber back to the 70s. Here my heads up. And it going to happen. Your waist lines going to fail. Give it 12 months. U will be digging it up. Your home work is "read " about compaction rates for what gravel. ( you never back fill with dirt, it will shift and settle, the waist line will get belly's in it, where soilds will stop up the line. Fix it now right with clean PVC , Easter now than when it's packed with crap. Codes are 8" of pee gravel, ( small round river rock, it compacts to 99%, and will not sink, shift, ) what you tossed in the ditch, to get the slope, is crap. Sharp rocks with dirt, destroy PVC pipes UNDERGROUND. You get, a gold star for the caution tape. But, now I take the gold star, for putting utilities piping to close together in the ditch. You never run water next to sewer , and sure as heck dont drop power in the ditch also. ( watch, trent and allie channel, ) they got burned , by a contractor who did what you did to your self..they video there new house build in utah... 12 months later they video, the crap backing up in there new house, 4" deep..
    Why did it happen,. Waist line, back filled wrong, and with dirt. The contractor, screwed them to save a few bucks. To dig it all up, replace it all, labor, back hoe, 10s of thousands...hey dad, go fix your mess, before the girls have no TOLETS and your new house is full of crap..on the bright side. It will be your crap...hahaha,

      I appreciate you comment and maybe it wasn’t clear from this video (there are 3 2 previous videos in this project) but we did bed and backfill the septic pipe with 3/4 minus crushed rock. What you saw in the video was us backfilling with dirt after that rock had been put down.
      Also, there is no water line in that trench. Only a power line which is fully in conduit and was approved by the inspector.
