They were always a great band regardless of the line-up. Lynott was a musical and poetical genius. His legacy and the Thin Lizzy legend will live on for many more decades to come.
@@maryben-mcd6562 early 80’s, I remember the spotlight hitting Phil’s bass and then reflecting into the crown like a searchlight. Awesome. Also loved then, in fact, I’m playing Chinatown in the car at the minute. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Ok. So I’m 57 and a lifelong rocker particularly classic, 60’s through 90’s, and was this many years old when I learned John Sykes was one of the guitarists in Thin Lizzy! Incredible. He was great here but man, he turned almost superhuman between these years and whitesnake. Unreal.
Thin lizzy was so dynamite n had there own grove was such a loss when he died 😔 they were special 💔 n heroin was there demise what loss to our music culture sas-sad miss there 😢 music 🎶
This should've been the ultimate Lizzy line up with the absolute beast that is John Sykes accompanying Scott Gorham on the old geetar! How sad is it that Lizzy only made the one album with this sound and then disappeared forever. So sad. Phil Lynott, fucking LEGEND!
Phil had the absolute best bass ever, clean no distortion and his vocals were incredible, not to mention his ability to write the most poiniegent songs of ALL TIME! Amazing talent, there'll never be another like him...ever!
When you are listening to great Guitar works, don't ignore the driving force Bass Guitar..... Phil Lynot well a great interesting human being and a great artist is no more but RUclips keeps these great times going for us. So there may not be great bands like these no more but We love, Thin Lizzy and they are here, Always to watch again and again. God bless🙏
Thin Lizzy 1983 lineup - Phil Lynott - Vocals, Bass Guitar. Brian Downey - Drums. Scott Gorham - Lead Guitar. John Sykes - Lead Guitar. Darren Wharton - Keyboards.
John Sykes was IMO, the only guitarist in Thin Lizzy to rival Gary Moore for technical ability, feel, tone and creativity, albeit with a much harder sound and direction than Moore. Fucking genius! Whitesnake became the biggest band in the world off the back of the album co written with John Sykes and IMO, Phil Lynott was 10 times the songwriter that David Coverdale ever could've been! The Whitesnake album was written directly after Lizzy split and so most of those riffs would've been worked into that Thin Lizzy magick!
Not so Irish as only Phil and Brian was irish, and Gary too on the few occasions he was in the band. The rest of the members where English, Scottish and American. So I would say they were kind of an international british band really.
@@peterknicked i suppose that’s the truth about thin lizzy,as far as i know Phil lynott and Brian Downey stuck through the changes of many personnel, those two guys were top notch players,my favorite album is life live.best wishes from Dublin,
They were really on it that night. It's such a shame that Phil and Scott couldn't sort out their personal issues. I always wonder what if. Thank God for RUclips we can still rock out to Thin Lizzy when we feel like it.
Phil Lynott war einmalig-ohne ihn ist Thin Lizzy nicht denkbar, auch wenn es in der Vergangenheit immer wieder Versuche gab, die Band ohne ihn fortzuführen.
It’s quite unfortunate that this set list and performance never made it to the American shores in 1983 on the Thunder & lightning tour probably due to Phillips fluctuating health issues he had. With MTV just taken flight it would have been great exposure with Cold sweat being a single release!
I saw them in 74 or 75 at The Michigan Palace in Detroit on a Thursday. 5 bands for $5 , and I had just bought the Nightlife album a couple of weeks prior. They smoked all the other bands.
They blew the US thing on the Bad Rep tour. Too much drugs, alcohol, fighting, and cancelled shows due the above. They tried again on the Black Rose tour, but Gary bailed on them for the same reasons and no American promoter wanted anything to do with them. So they destroyed their chances in the US all on their fucked up own.
This is what performing live is all about...raw, sweaty, driven, with a melodic edge to contrast with the wild Rock ‘n’ Roll brilliance of this tight ensemble. A band of brothers whose love for each other and their passion for being on stage shining through. No tricks, no auto tuning just sheer talent and paying their dues.
Would love to have seen this, love the gig atmosphere and this looks and sounds shit hot.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻''A medley of our hit', track after track sheer brilliance.
I've noticed (thank God) that this is in stereo. I know it was made in stereo for the stereo FM simulcast with BBC Radio 1, but every time a TV station shows and "Sight And Sound: In Concert" (including the Thin Lizzy episode) it's in mono. BBC Four is a big culprit of this. Was this broadcast on a TV station as it is (in stereo) or was it broadcast on a radio station and then dubbed over the TV picture? Either way, thanks very much for uploading. 👌👌
A bit harsh. A band like Lizzy are always going to bring it live, but their studio work is still brilliant. Nothing wrong with the production on Jailbreak - one of the greatest rock albums ever produced.
Sykes was at his best live like this. They had such a history of great complimentary guitarists. Even Snowy White had a great run. Robertson and Gorham were the best melodic tandem. But, if Phil had managed to clean up I think this line up would have been legendary in this age of rock. I was in college when PL passed...what could have been?

Brian Downey is the most intriguing drummer. Heavy rock with a swing beat
No sweat here. The superband that never became a superband. What a miss for rock music. But my memories are sweet and profound.
That is one heck of a drum kit riser.
I miss this man. He had charisma without arrogance. What a frontman!
John Sykes is one of the most underrated guitarists of the era, absolute beast. Saw Lizzy on Thunder & Lightning Tour.
Why Underrated? Sykes was in Whitesnake etc. Scott Gorham is in underrated
Total agreement here!
Totally feel the same! 💯 Lucky you getting to See Thin Lizzy 👁️😁💖 I've been jamming to them for 50 yrs. Give or take 1 🥰🤘✌️💞🔥
What yr. Was that TOUR? I bet it was AWESOME!!!!💯👍💖😉

Gorham doesn't get enough credit for the harmony lines. The best there is.
One of the best rock bands ever ... Set the bar high on so many levels ...
Been a fan of lizzy for a long time since day one they was allways special
Iron Maiden would cease to exist without them
My fav band.
This drummer is crazy good,
Thin lizzy one of the greatest rock bands of all time

Incredible band with one of the most amazing drummers ever
John Sykes, absolute ledge. Melodic, exciting, punky, stage presence, shredder, pinched harmonics all over the gaff, controlled aggression, BVs.
That’s the finest most evocative summing up of the legend that is John Sykes. ❤️😊💛

Simply spectacular! Some of the best musicians ever and no one compares to them today.
No doubt!
thin lizzy are real man’s springsteen☝🏻
This was a Great time 4 me as i saw this line up live twice in 83 & they were CLASS!!!
Thunder & Lightning was such good record. The malaise that had been going on for years was musically clearing. Probably the best record since '79.
This is awesome top notch band cool 🐈 meow

I disagree, after Gary that position goes to Bryan Robertson

Yeah ‘only’ Phil. The songwriter front man and superstar.
Эти два парня о которых Вы говорите, Фил и Брайан являются в THIN LIZZY "ритм-секцией". @@johndoyle1810
If Phil had of got his way every album would have been a live one!! They weren't studio musos like Floyd, Yes or even Queen to a degree!
Some bands are really energised by and at their best in front of a live audience and TL were obviously one of them
This was like 3 months before I was even born, this friggin rocks.

Their live performances seem a lot better than the studio versions
All of their live dvds kick ass! Thanks!
Saw them many times live . Always a good show.

Absolutely great
Спасибо за концерт , жаль Thin Lizzy уже никогда не увидят в России , мы так ждали ,

OMG.... So Good😁💖💯✌️ Love It everyday!🥰💞
🤟👍🏼💪 I was fortunate to have seen TL in back to back performances opening for Queen in Boston. Blown away to his day! Its 06:21 AM Eastern.
They were so good in their time weren’t they?
They were shit hot here. Moments before the end.
Fn incredible, nothing even comes close!
What rock band it was. Too good to listen again ❤
The big band
No gary:( but John Sykes!!!!! 👍🏼 👍🏼
Neither had the cool swagger of Robbo
John was a great addition to Lizzy.

How they aren’t mentioned in Rock History??? So good live!
Tin lizzy
This is a great clip. Is this on any DVD or CD? Not only one of the best Irish bands, but one of the best bands in the whole world. RIP Phil !
What happened to this great band?
Did they end up like Badfinger? CCR?
Such a Shame they only did Thunder and Lightning with Sykes . Imagine if he would have Stayed for a few more years Wow

Far better live than their albums which were very weak production wise.
