I've been recommending this film to reactors forever. It's so underrated and flies under the radar.
It's literally amazing how all other reactors ignore the pleas
I wish RUclipsrs also reacted to Carlito’s way as well one of the most underrated classics it’s better than Scarface to me
Same here. Depp is incredible. See him also in "Black Mass".
Yes, that and "Bugsy" with Warren Beatty and "Carlito's Way" are criminally underrated.
@@mo2k638 The original "Scarface" is superior to the remake.
Thank God you finally watched this, it's one of the most overlooked Mafia movies and one of the most realistic.
"I got the Fleetwood Brougham, fugeddaboutit"!
Pacino was so good as Lefty in this. This movie is overlooked big time.
In real life he was closer to Sonny Black, he said a couple of times if I wasn't an agent I could see myself hanging out with Sonny, not being involved in crime, but having beer or having dinner with him. He thought Lefty was a pain in the ass, but at the same time, realizing that Lefty knew the life. Joe said that Lefty was an expert in mob politics. He said anything that Lefty said was going to happen did happen pretty much like he said. No one was smarter then him when it came to the mob.
One of Pacino's greatest performances.
This is based on an actual story.
makes it more intense when u think about it!
@@MJoy4Fun What gets me at the end is how the mobsters didn't believe he was undercover, even with the official word on the fact. He was that good -- and likeable.
It is his greatest performance for my money. He was able to tone down his usual bravado and confidence. The thick glasses and the follower mentality. It's all new turf for Pacino, but he pulled it off beautifully. Your heart breaks for this mass murderer by the end
@@donaldshotts4429 My wonder is why the film is so neglected by those who over-praise such as "Goodfellows".
@@jnagarya519 Good question? Maybe because Donnie Brasco didn't have everyone decked out in suits etc. It was definitely the lowest level of organized crime
One of my all time favourite movies. Depp and pacino are magnificent in this
One of Pacino's absolute best performances. And Depp is amazing -- see him in "Black Mass".
@@jnagarya519 as whitey bulger. He was great in that
the best!
In real life it was “Sonny Black” , Dominick Napolitano who was murdered for bringing in Joe Pistone aka Donnie Brasco in to La Cosa Nostra. This hurt the Bonnano family for a long time. The family almost made an undercover fed. After it came out that Donnie was really a federal agent, Sonny was eventually called for and he knew he wasn’t coming out alive so he gave his jewelry to his favorite bartender who worked in the bar he lived upstairs from. He also gave him keys to the apartment so his pigeons could be cared for. He was driven to a house where “the meeting” was to be held in the basement. Sonny was pushed down the stairs and grazed by a bullet. Sonny then told them “Hit me one more time and make it good..” He was then shot several more times killing him.
If Im correct, the real Lefty was picked up by the FBI before making his destination for his "sit down" saving his life. Far as Sonny Black, I believe his right hand was missing when they'd found him, a message was sent how that was the same hand that shook Pistone's.
In a weird way it ended up kind of benefitting the Bonnanos, because they got kicked off the Commission and barred from deals with other families right before the era of RICO prosecutions cranked up. The other families got hammered while the Bonnanos flew under the radar setting the stage for their resurgence under Joe Massino.
They also cut his hands off as a symbol of him introducing joe and shaking hands with the others.
Thank you guys. One of my favorites I'd watch with my Father. RIP.
I love Johnny Depp's non-eccentric roles. There are so few. 😂
Great acting by everyone especially Al Pacino, so many roles so great in all of them , thanks again!
Ask any mobster they will tell this is the closest to the real thing.
Amazing dialogue when Lefty's teaching Brasco the ropes.
This is my favorite mafia movie. Al Pacino is so good in it.
Al Pacino is in another movie that came out in '97 called "The Devil's Advocate." It's very good and there aren't many reactions to it.
It's so crazy that I was searching for Donnie Brasco reactions yesterday and you upload this today. Awesome.
Hope you enjoyed it!
Al Pacino's greatest performance, imo. And that's saying something.
One of the few movies that depicts Italian mobsters in the right way: not funny people with despicable habits, not tragical anti-heroes, but a bunch of paranoid sociopaths that don't trust anybody and care only about themselves.
Real life Sonny Black and Bruno Indelicato were part of the hit team on Carmine Galante. After the hit, both of them were made capos. Unfortunately for Bruno, his dad, Sonny Red wanted to overthrow Phillip Rastelli, the boss of the bonnanos. Eventually, Sonny Black lured Sonny Red, Domminik Trinchera and another caporegime in a trap and did the infamous "3 capos murder". After this, the FBI had enough evidence to endite them all but Sonny Red and Tony Mirra were whaked for bringing in Brasco/Pistone.
Lefty's final scene where he removes all his valuables is heartbreaking. Very difficult to feel that way for a character who you know is a ruthless murderer.
The real-life Lefty died of cancer. Sonny Black was the one who was actually "sent for"
@@Gutts31correct. The FBI picked up lefty on the street and saved his life. They thought he might cooperate but he told them to F off and died later.
Pacino plays that scene masterfully as he does in every scene of this movie. What a performance. Even just that shot of him watching the nature show on TV is incredible, how he's sitting. What a controlled, disciplined, crafted performance; absolutely no hint of the normal "Pacino In The 90s", chewing up the scenery, hollering and yelling.....his best performance of the 90s, bar none. I put this as his best post-70s performance, actually!
@@TTM9691 best post 70's. I like that. Agree. There are phone tapes on RUclips of actual conversations between lefty and pistone and its amazing how pacino nails lefty's sound, inflections and intensity.
@@MrAitraining Wow! Thanks for letting me know! I'm going to check those out! I was thinking, as I was watching it: where the hell did Pacino get such a specific character and now I know the answer! He was basing it on the real guy! (duh! lol). Thanks, man!
I am so glad more and more reactors are starting to react to this film. It is definitely a wonderful well-made movie. I will say, though, you can rest assured, in reality Lefty did not actually die. It was Sonny Black who paid the price for Donnie’s infiltration and who got killed. Actually did those same exact actions that Al Pacino did with leaving his ring, his money and his keys, except he gave them to a bartender leave them in a drawer in his house. Lefty was apprehended on his way to a meeting, which was presumably his own hit. But the FBI intercepted him before he could make it, and he spent the rest of his life in jail.
You guys should react to The Sopranos if you like Mafia stuff. It's widely considered the best TV show of all time.
Yes !!!!! My favourite film
This was when we realized that Johnny Depp could act and was more than a teen heart throb
I think he showed he could act, way before this film. "Edward Scissorhands" in 1990, "Benny & Joon", "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" both in 1993, "Ed Wood", "Don Juan DeMarco" both in 1995. All before this film in 1997.
There’s good documentary on RUclips about the real guy Johnny played
I get this confused with "Carlito's Way" (1993). Need to re-watch both.
Yup, good movie.
In real life it was Sonny who told his girlfriend if you talk to Donnie tell him " Im glad it was him and he was better than us".. also Lefty (Al Pacino) was picked up on his way to the meeting he would be killed at by the FBI and refused to talk and went to jail and was released cause he had cancer. ..and Sonny was really killed by his family
Great movie. But Lefty isn't the one who got whacked. Hollywood changed that part. Lefty went to prison. It was Sonny Black who ended up geting whacked for vouching for Donnie.
I went through the same thing the very first time I watched this. It was tough at first seeing Al Pacino as a low level guy and not the Don. Great job as always from you guys!
Great reaction! Such a great movie
Watch Blow, Johnny Depp is a Legend!!
Great movie... yeah mon! Lol
GREAT PICK, CLASSIC MOVIE!!!
Once Upon a Time in America is a must for anyone who enjoys mob movies
At last!!! Thank you! 25:41 Marion blew me away with that remark, I never thought of that: both Pacino and Johnny Depp are in the same exact situation. Great reaction! Well worth the wait! Obviously The Godfather Parts 1 & 2 and Goodfellas (and Casino) are the undisputed greats of the mafia movies.....but after that, "Donnie Brasco" is next on my list. It's not as cinematically impressive as those other films, but it definitely has the acting, the script and a fascinating, compelling story. Probably my favorite Johnny Depp performance (along with Ed Wood), and my favorite 90s Pacino performance, bar none.
P.S. I agree with Joy: this is the only mafia movie that has heart! It's the only mafia movie that makes you cry!
A great book too and my favourite Pacino performance.
The book this is based on is one of the most fascinating non-fiction thrillers I've ever read. This is a pretty good adaptation except that the scenes with his wife drag things down for me.
When I was a kid I grew up around people like this and I was good friends with two rival drug dealers and they use to tell on each other to the cops every chance they could. It was insane.
Favorite Italian mob movie. Its aged so well, i saw it in theatre at 20 years old and today it may be more enjoyable.
Yes it is TRUE
Al Pacino & Johnny Depp Are The Best 💯
This is a very underrated mob movie. Great reaction guys.
Great movie guys 🍿👍.😒🇺🇸🇮🇹🇲🇽
Another good pick..🫡👍
Great movie!!!!
Left ruggerio didnt get whacked. He went to jail and never gave up anyone. He was true to the code. Never ratted on anyone.
REAL!! "DONNIE BRASCO" wire tapped phone calls with "Lefty" Ruggiero.
Nice Reaction. Hope you consider reacting to Pacino's "Carlito's Way"(1993)
Awesome reaction. Love you both. Keep up the great work 👍. Hello from Pa USA 🇺🇸.
Hi guys!! Thank you so much for reacting to this movie. This is my favorite mob movie and one of my all time favorite movies
The real life story of Joe Pistone and his undercover work is insane and Hollywood could have never written a bigger story. Pistons single handedly brought down almost an entire family, and he was actually submitted to be made guy meaning to be mad a boss and they were going to open the books to him which would have been an epic unfolding of the criminal underworld of the MOB both operationally and symbolically but the FBI finally pulled him out when that came about out of fear he was in too deep and that his cover would finally get blown. Pistons had some of the biggest pair of bal*s never to do what he did for as long as he did.
Subscribed! That's good taste! Nobody else has to watch it afterwards! If not many even think on their own accord to react to it, oh well, too bad for them.
I agree. This is better than the Departed.
Very underrated movie, i watched it a long time ago but man what a story
If you like this, you’re gonna like “Blow (2001)”
Mob/crime movies to add to the list:
Metro Manila.
Carlito's way.
A history of violence.
Bound.
Once upon a time in America.
Inside man.
Black rain.
Hell or high water.
Set it off.
The Thomas crown affair (1968 or 1999.)
Four brothers.
City of God.
A simple plan.
The boondock saints.
A bronx tale.
Things to do in denver when you're dead.
Black mass.
The next three days.
Many great recommendations in there! 🫡
Such a GREAT MOVIE!! 😎
Poor Lefty 😢
Good to see you reviewing this highly under rated mafia classic. I put up as better than the Godfather movies, Goidfellas or the Sopranos. Based on a true story. Great realism and nobobody, I mean nobidy ever reacts to this film. GAME ON! Good job.
😂
Not better than "Godfather 1". But better than "Goodfellas" and so many others.
Great movie. I liked this so much I saw it multiple times in the theater. I think Lefty was actually arrested on his way to meeting that would most likely have been the death of him. He died in prison.
It’s $500. In the 70’s money
First Michael has Tessio killed and now he kills Clemenza.
This was such an underrated movie. Check out American Made. Tom Cruise was awesome in it and it was an unbelievable true story.
"Jackie Brown" (1997)
"Payback" (1999)
"The Town" (2010)
"The Bank Job" (2008)
"Out of Sight" (1998)
"Parker" (2013)
Where the FBI somehow look more dishonest than the mob lol
He got left out of whacking the boss. Thats quite sad. Lmao! 🤣😂🤣😂
Id be sad too if i got left out.
Great Reactions Everyone
Bada Bing bada boom...."trow em a beatin!"
duuuude how many other Pacino movies are you guys doing
yall HAVE to do Serpico
and maybe ...And Justice for All too
Hey guys! If you like Mafia Movies you should watch “A BRONX TALE” (1997), and/or “GOTTI” (The 1996 Version). I think you’ll love both!
thank you so much! 🥰😁
I would love for you guys to react to 'A Bronx Tale'!
fah-get about it. My favorite crime film. Thanks for doing it.
That screen name is fugazy.
An excellent true story movie. The trilogy to watch, tho nothing to do with each other, but true story is, Goodfellas, Casino, A Bronx Tale. Johnny also did the True story movie of the Irish gangster from Boston. Black Mass!
Pacino's Lefty is such a contrast to Michael Corleone. But a lot of people don't even recognize Clemenza (the younger version).
You should go watch discussions and interviews with Joe Pistone online.
"The Departed" is a REMAKE of a Hong Kong movie, mixed with a mishmash of "Whitey" Bulger history. Vastly superior is not only "Donnie Brasco" but also even more so "Black Mass," about Bulger's ACTUAL history, also with amazing Johnny Depp.
Deleted scenes are usually deleted for a reason.
The departed (2006) is a remake of Chinese movie infernal affairs (2002)
This film doesn't get enough said about it. Very solid gangster flick, with great performances (back when Depp took acting seriously instead of just dicking around in costumes).
Another good organised crime film starring Johnny Depp, is
Black Mass.
It's also a true story about the Boston mafia.
Depp is amazing in it.👍
Depp is absolutely chilling. That scene at the dinner when he asks about the "secret family recipe" -- and when he is told it he "threatens" the guy.
Depp is absolutely astonishing in "Black Mass".
"The Departed" is a joke in comparison with "Donnie Brasco" and "Black Mass".
@@jnagarya519 My friend, that recipe scene is just a lesser version of “funny how?” from Goodfellas. Black Mass was not that good. Not even close to Departed.
@@rawpower12xu BEGIN with the fact that "The Departed" is a REMAKE of the Hong Kong film "Infernal Affairs".
Then clutter that up by tacking on an unrepresentative and irrelevant FICTION vaguely and inaccurately ascribed to "Whitey" Bulger.
"Black Mass" STUCK TO THE ACTUAL HISTORY of "Whitey" Bulger.
@@rawpower12xu Except that that recipe scene is more authentic.
They should watch "Dog Day Afternoon." Another good Al Pacino movie.
Nothing compared to this movie… this is based of true events real mob movie second Goodfellas.
@@Rickky007You are crazy for diminishing Dog Day Afternoon. That picture is also based on real events. Pacino and Johnny Cazale were amazing in it. You can feel the anxiety and desperation throughput
You need to read the book the book is awesome
thanks for content
The real joe pastone is standing behind santo trafficante
Lefty wasn't killed in real life. Sonny black was.
Theowing the salt over the shoulder is fir good luck in the Sicilian culture
Go go ga-

Undercover agents cant cut up dead bodies. Surely that didn't happen
Im new to your channel. Can you guys react to how to get away with murder? I really love your reactions! More power from the Ph! ❤🇵🇭
Watch blow with Johnny Depp

She puts you in your place Marina
Fuggitaboutit
Awesome reaction/ can you please watch a movie called WE OWN THE NIGHT.
Just $500 bonus for all that sh*t he went through? Even taking inflation into account-$500 in 1979 equals $2,120 today-is still a pittance for everything he went through! A half mil, tax free, at least, nothing less!
Gov't employees are NOT overpaid!
@@jnagarya519
Didn't say they were.
@@arrow1414 There's a general idea that they are paid too much. In this instance Pistone risked his life, and he got an award and $500.
Gov't employees aren't in it for the money.
Is this a directors cut ? Some scenes seem extended.
It's a fugazi
