Edible gold is probably the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. And that guy just came out and slapped it on like fake American cheese 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Las vegas invented it
Cause it’s $5 bucks for all that then they inflate the price $250 and use $25 worth of food lol
Totally agree with All y’all!!
Looks ruined when that is on there!!! My cones and rods!?!?😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫
a way for them to overcharge for no good reason.
@@brokeish if think this ridiculous then come to India try $150 10pcs of 24carat gold wrapped sweets
that expensive biryani looked so beautiful... UNTIL the gold was just thrown all over it. It's beyond unnecessary, it actually took away from it's beauty.
I think it's so that rich Arabs can have something to do with all their extra money.
ikr. I don't even think that edible gold has flavor.
If your gonna use edible gold at least dont put it on every single piece of meat there
Agreed. Take the gold on the side, in a take-out bag
agreed
I will never get the edible gold, seems pointless
At this point stick edible gold to anything and sell it for 200$ or something lol
The point is that it's pointless. It's opulent just for the sake of being fancy and different as far as I know. A lot of people enjoy that.
It’s for the Instagram post then no one cares smh
The real question is, how you doing Charlie Sheen?
I personally think it just looks way less appetizing this way to be honest
Anyone can buy the edible gold sheets. They aren’t that expensive. These restaurants use it to inflate their prices. It’s ridiculous how much.
And the fact that it doesn’t have any taste…
@@julia5459 I’d rather them taste like nothing than metal
The whole idea of putting gold leaf on a regular food dish is a scam and to extort money from the customer because they cost only $15 to $20
And honestly it doesn't look more appetizing with the gold... For me its more appetizing without the gold
But the rubes keep paying for it
edible gold has to be the dumbest thing ever
Not to yakuza
Sorry Mike. That was a VERY sloppy gold covering, it should have been carefully brushed on with a basting brush. It totally ruined the appearance of the dish for me. They could have left off the gold leaf and just let you enjoy the food.
It should just never be applied, no matter how meticulous the application is. It costs them pennies for that much leaf and they probably tack on $100 to the bill for it. And it looks like hell to boot, always.
You're a very unintelligent, pompous man who lacks any sort of critical thinking.
@@philthycoder😂 I'm sorry. I've never found anything so welcome. Don't know how to do it and it's only a couple of times we're all ready but you need to play some games and I know when you put on audio.

@@bobsun111 Is there an english translation for that comment? I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about
I agree, that waiter's presentation was totally lacking in laying down that gold sheeting. Not my speed at all; I'd rather go to the small place that serves awesome food for dirt cheap with love and passion, but that's just me, of course. It's wonderful that you have Miss Christine to share all this with, now, because if I recall, she has as hearty an appetite as you do? Lucky man!
A5
I love how everyone around you is either looking into the camera or just honestly enjoying the food and don’t give a flying funtime
A flying funtime..?
Cursing isn't bad.
@@jonzel472 It's not so much that they don't think it's bad as it is they're trying to avoid getting put into the spam comments folder. This channel seems like the type to have a swear filter on it
Finally someone who shows the other side of dubai food, everyone knows the glamorous places in dubai but rarely do they show this side of it, good job Mike 👌🏼
The food on the last dish looked awesome without the Gold!
I’ll take the $5 plate…the $276 plate doesn’t look good because of the gold. It looks like aluminum foil but in gold color.
Quite right
Same. The $5 bucket of biryani looked amazing.
Edible gold leaf isn't really that expensive, you can get 30 leaves for about $16,
and they still up charge $150
I prefer less heavy metals in my food
@@ghostofgarycoleman5251 It just passes right through you. Guess you've never had Goldschlager?
@@SilvaDreams Fireball tastes just as good if not better and you don't have to pay extra for the flakes. Goldschlager is for dweebs who think it's cool to have flavorless gold flakes in their drink to feel special or hip. It doesn't get any flavor from the gold.
Maybe but in India we have some rich life and exquisite 24carat Indian foods
I don't get the point of the gold leaf. Just hides the food and inflates the price.
Still looks tasty, though I think I'd prefer the $5 one.
You hit the nail on the head. Part of high end dining is not just taste, it is visuals and experience. You have to sell the percieved value to somebody who is paying over 200 dollars for a plate of food.
Its pretty putting 5$ papers on your food
It's for weird people who like to feel important
@@ghostofgarycoleman5251 Cuz u know that's from Dubai also exist in India
@@yuvalgabay1023 come to India 24carat gold sweets
The gold leaf is absolutely pointless
It drives the price up. Without it could probably be around 50
I'm super glad you went all around Karama and Bur Dubai because there are so many places like what you went to that are very affordable that isn't shown often. Everyone knows the glitzy things about dubai its very refreshing to see you show the normal people places that I often go to.
I was telling my chef the other day that if management really wanted a bunch of pretentious dishes on the menu to fabricate a "luxury" dining experience, why not just cover everything in gold leaf. Easy. That Dubai restaurant obviously doesn't understand the sarcasm.
Putting gold on something doesn’t alter the taste..just makes you pay more
That platter feeds a lot of people, I think it's nice for a special occasion. Plus the ingredients like saffron and pomegranate are top tier. I'd say worth it!!
They way he slapped that gold on there wasn't very impressive though.
The difference is for 270 you get 50 dollars worth of food and 15 dollars worth of edible gold foil! What a bargain! But I guess it's for the experience!
Gold wrapped anything 🤢
So tacky.
Buy a dollar worth icecream stick some gold 200$
Heaven in the mouth! Biriyani has so so many spices in it. I will try some the next time I go to a big city . But that gold covered biriyani is over top!!! Thank you Mike!
Yup overloaded masalas which we don't know what it taste individually but work together for explosive comfort tasting
I can't take it anymore. Mike Chen is one of the only food review channel subscriptions I have that will make me hungry and I GOTTA GET SOMETHING TO EAT.
If I ever order that Briyani plate I would tell them to excuse the edible gold
That $5 biriyani would taste much better than the expensive gold covered white rice.
I love how everyone just stares at you what the restaurants 😂
Mike and biryani my two most favorite things In the world
I don’t know why, but I was nervous about the leftovers…whether you would get to finish it or not 🤣
Even me..😅😅😅 when someone order huge pile of food, first thing comes in mind. Will they be able to finish that up??
Maybe he gives it to camera crew or something
Yep, super glad to hear Mikey say at the end that he would be enjoying the leftovers the next day lol 😆.
Rather than gold, I'd love a ton of bone marrow, shaved truffle and The real Avengers actors to share it with me. 🥰😘 Great meals Mikey!
the gold leaf cost at most 85 dollars per 500 sheets i counted 18 so gold adds very little cost to the meal
That last dish was looking so good until the needless and haphazardly applied gold foil
The biryani looks amazing! Would love to try it😍 edible gold is pretty pointless in my opinion doesn’t taste like anything but you pay so much for it 🥲
This Also exist in India tho and Indian will explain benefits of eating gold also need some fanciness and status
leech! stop trying to get viewers by commenting on everyone's videos
that's what I was going to say. they can keep the gold and knock $100 off the price.
@@Nastynxss c'mon man u should know what is the common fanciness in Dubai
@@amarbinay6654 If you want to pay extra for things be my guest.
I think the gold makes everything looks so nasty. I just don't get it.
It's for weird people who think they're important
Just an extra information- The biriyani from SS biriyani is not the only tamil biriyani. It's one of the many. The SS biriyani is a Chennai style biriyani made with Basmati rice. In the south,(Madurai. Where I'm originally from) biriyani is made from a rice called 'Seeraga Samba' in which the size of the rice is smaller and its packed with flavours. There are also other varieties of biriyani available around Tamilnadu. You should definitely visit Tamilnadu(especially Madurai the food capital) once!!
Haha I thought $272 was expensive for the dish, but when Mike mentioned there is a $1000 gold sundae in New York, the $272 for a huge platter of biryani doesn't seem that bad 😂😂
Sorry Mike. I know it's for content but anything with edible gold puts me off. There's absolutely no reason to put gold on food. All that food isn't worth $276 in my opinion.
I think gold foil on food can be pretty when used as a highlight, but I gotta agree with folks here that they were just slapping that shit on like kraft singles lol.
The plating was awesome until they ruined it with edible gold. 🤦♂️
Not to mention the VERY hap-hazard way the gold leaf was applied.
I woulda smacked that dude the second he got out the gold leaf. No sir, I do not want a side of tasteless metal with me food, thanks.
No meal is worth that much money. Period.
Idk a nice thick wagyu steak might be
I think the Biryani plate looked so amazing right before the gold went in. Agreed with you, it is just and stravaganza item in Dubai but sad to see all that gold turned into poop at the end of it all ---LOL. Wonder if they will sell the plate without the gold or allow you to take the gold home with you instead, it looks like a feast for the palet.
I love Mikey's enthusiasm towards it
I liked the look of the biryani before the gold
Looked so good until they covered it with gold leaf and ruined it for me. I’ve got no desire to eat gold.
That gold just ruins the look of it :T
Mickey you never kept us updated with the progress of your restaurants. Did you abandon the idea?
Everytime mike has a tendency to adjust the camera even though its positioned perfectly placed..I think its become a natural reflex
I said same thing soooo long ago and he said that he was adjusting the lighting button
Last dish looked good until they covered it in tasteless metal wrapper.
The biryani at 9:22 looks so good, I can practically smell it lol.
Dude, you couldn't do a white dress shirt for the second Biryani place?
Loving these latest vlogs.Good work
Edible gold to inflate price 👎🏻
Seems just wasteful even if free.
*OK!! 👍 😍 I really appreciate how neatly you eat. This show is so satisfying to watch!!*
The combination sauce and yogurt with biryani is perfect
Everytime when restaurant owners think how to extremely raise the price of a dish
The answer is always gold paper😑....
Serious question: does it come “out” gold too?
It does!!!!
😂
Its crazy how I have gotten so used to mikey's reviews that I don't seem to like watching any other food vloggers for long.
Indian food: Complex yet harmonious symphony 😍. Yes a perfect description, Mikey
Love from India🇮🇳
Forget the gold. imagine if all those sheets were pieces of cheese.
next we are eating food plated with most expensive NFT's
Tat gold sheets do they even hv a taste. They usually put it on sweets i dono y dey put tat on everything nowadays 😂
Nothing better than eating and watching a strictly dumpling video at the same time!
I get hungry everytime i watch you eat. 😖😩
I just had my very first taste of Indian cuisine the other day. I tried biriyani and curry. I have to say Indian cuisine is my new fav. Wow!
As a Tamil myself, I’m so happy you tried Tamil style biryani 😁 put a huge smile on my face 💕
Is it me or Mike seems to have a much better time with the cheaper one than the crazy golden one?
I think the wife is who wants all the fancy expensive stuff, Mike is a mom n pop's kinda guy.
Should have asked how much for the dish with out any gold on it....might have saved a couple hundred.
Ignoring the gold leaf debate, i am dying to know what the yellow tear drop shapes are! The two things I suspect they could be are saffron soaked boiled eggs, cut in half or mangos still in the peel. They don't exactly look like either (some look like they came out of a mold, but that could be the lighting) but i'm at a loss.
Most probably, they're boiled eggs slightly stir fried in oil and turmeric powder, then cut into half.
Count the amount of times he adjusts and taps the camera WHILE recording in EVERY video lol!
Mike visisting local kitchens arround the world are the best Videos of his. Love this one. In my opinion its more enjoyable to Watch then the expensives buffets and stuff
This isn't a critique on you or your content, I greatly enjoy it, but it is about edible gold. Putting it on food simply to up the price is just about the dumbest thing anyone can do. Good food sells itself, no gimmicks needed.
hey mate how do you get your strictly dumpling jumpers its winter in oz i want one :) my favorite channel
The mistake I will not make is seeing these dishes as simple when compared to the Depth of FLAVOR.😍😋 I need to find a place in my neighborhood that makes Biryani today! Cheers!!!
One complaint... Usually, when they have some GLAM-Expensive dish, like a super expensive pizza or whatever... there are really expensive ingredients added (like caviar or truffle..). Nothing "extras" on this dish, the food itself stands on its own... looking Fabulously delicious. Slapping on the gold sheets didn't take it to the next level for me. I guess, I was expecting some kind of OH-LA-LA art with the gold. Food that is made 5star level should not apologize for their prices when they are truly worth it. Cheers again!!
In india, even $5 biryani is too expensive for us 😂
@6:07 the man nodded I nodded back and was like sup😭
The gold flakes is just to rip people off lol
Yo yo yo another mike chen vid alright lets get it oh yes!
Just like no one is watching the NFL for Tom Brady working for $40 million as an analyst, no one is coming to your restaurant for gold-wrapped meat.
Seriously, STOP.
Mike I love your videos. Do you know restaurants that serve gluten free meals
Gluten free?!? Mike is not going to remember those details...since he eats everything!
Just curious - has Christine stopped traveling with Mike? Around the time that they got married she was always with him but now not so much!
She was in Dubai with him. You catch bits of her or her purse, but she doesn't usually talk.
i wish she would talk more
Nothing can beat Hyderabadi biryani 😋
Hey look $30 worth of food down the street that costs $200 cause edible gold. Lol so pointless and idiotic to raise the price of goods. Surprised you did this actually but to each their own. Def not something I would care to eat
Was the hotpot really100 ml of water that is only 3.4 ounces.... Gold covered food is not exquisite, more like gaudy and/or gauche.
I like your videos 🙂🙂"
Your, roti eating style is unique... 🙂😂😂"
Dubai “Worth It” edition featuring Mike Chen. Too bad Adam isn’t there.
Gold doesn't make food luxurious or extravagant. It makes it look gawdy
The idea of gold on food pisses me off so much. It has nothing to do with food but the amount of wealth you want to flaunt off.
I just ordered the Hot Pot kit and if Mikey Chen vouches for it I know it's a winner. I have loved using my Raycon earbuds and wouldn't of ordered them if Mikey hadn't reviewed them.
Can you buy for me to please
Wow the 5 dollar bucket, more than for one person or food for 2 days haha
Give me the $5 Biryani any day. You know you have too much money, when you need all of your food to be covered in gold
Where is Christine? She suddenly came and went in the channel!
She is still with him, but she is not comfortable always being on camera... she appeared on camera to get people to stop asking why is she not on camera for a bit, but went back to remaining off camera... and we should respect that.
Nice to know

you can get the tomato one only
@@unwelcomegreetings7873 yeah but it seems weird when normally you have two different broths. Guess I can learn how to make the other I'm thinking of but just not sure how
Biryani is my absolute least favourite Pakistani dish BUT I had one in Dubai called Pak Liyari. If you’re ever in the area try it Mike, it’s amazing!!!
Biryani is Indian dish, but yes eaten in pakistan
It's both Indian and Pakistani dish as it was brought by Mughals to the Indian subcontinent.
@@ifrahnaaz4290 The biryani brought to India was not even the same biryani as today. The current biryani is totally Indian with Indian spices, invented in the kitchens of Nawabs of Hyderabad
@@Deira854 I'm sure the "Indian" spices are no different to "Pakistani" spices.
@@WellISaidIt They are. Because South India is spice country where everyone imports from around the world, even Pakistanis were importing spice from India before Imran khan banned the trade.

Best of Dubai for Indian and Pakistani Cuisine !!
Mikey - Admit it, Mutton would make you happy if it were served to you on a shovel right off the coals of a shepherd's campfire! Forget the gold! 17:00
Couldn’t care less about the edible gold, but the biryani is still magnificent.
Everything you try looks yummy. I wish you would go to Tunisia my boyfriend lives there and the food looks wonderful.
