  • I head out fishing in the Far North and find thousands of birds in shallow water. It makes for a brilliant sight and also some really fun fishing. I get both snapper and kahawai on softbaits and sliders. At the end of the fishing session dolphins show up to top off the day out softbaiting in shallow water. Thanks heaps for watching. when you're having issues getting bites/takes in amongst the birds like that it is because your softbait/lure is too large. You need to match the hatch size wise. Somedays the fish dont care and will eat anything you throw at them, other days are get fixated on a certain size and anything too much larger wont get touched. On those days throw in a white Zman Slim Swimz or Minnowz and you should see a lot more action, if wanting to go with a jig the Catch Seducer is my go to

yeah have been holidaying at various places around Doubtless Bay since the mid 90's. Use to stay at Coopers or Cable, but these days I stay over at Whatuwhiwhi. I think the fishery in D.B is very underrated and it would be level peggings the best lure fishery for snapper etc in NZ. Level with Tryphena G.B.I pre Calurpa days....

Neat! Yeah it’s one heck of a place to throw lures around. We’re very lucky. Caulerpa is looking like a scary one. Fingers crossed some way to control it is successful.

Thanks heaps for watching. I use DJI osmo action cameras (I’ve got first gen ones). I’m really impressed with their look and that stabilization is crazy good. I do use different gear for audio also. Thanks again. Thomas

Hey Thomas, quick question, what anchor do you use on the Smartwave? It's the last think I need to buy then I get out on the water!

Getting closer mate! I’ve got a Danforth 10S (4.5kg) with 4m of chain. I don’t use it often as most of my fishing is drifting but when I have used it it’s done the job. Hope that helps. Thomas

@@chasingacatch6017 thanks Thomas, that's essentially the exact anchor and chain setup that I'd been eyeing, great to hear it's worked for you. It's still freezing and stormy here but I'll probably pop down later this month and give her the blast on the water, super excited for it! I'm a good 2+ hours from the coast so the boat is going to spend it's life stored at the marina. I've never actually seen a Smartwave in real life, so I'm a little nervous, I'm sure it'll be lovely! 😅

Hey mate. Thanks for watching. I’ve got the Lowrance hook reveal 7 with a split shot transducer. There are other options out there with many more features but it does the job I ask of it. It’s got built in maps (c-maps) which is super helpful also. Hope that helps. Cheers, Thomas

@@chasingacatch6017 cheers bro, I’ll look into them. I’m after something that doesn’t break the bank but does the job sounding snapped ect. Sounds like it should do the trick for what I need it for too 🤙🏽🤙🏽
