I'm glad I'm not the only one who recognizes that, though I actually do ship them. Like I know that Shuichi liked Kaede and Maki liked Kaito, and that they probably have better chemistry with those respective characters, but there's the whole dead aspect that kinda gets in the way. As such, the only ships that *could* eventually happen involve the survivors...and does anyone aside from Tenko really want to consider something like that with Himiko? Plus Maki and Shuichi do have decent enough chemistry by the end. There are definitely worse ships out there
I like Maki a lot in the main story, but her whole backstory makes her unlikable to me. She hates being an assassin yet defends the occupation. She hates being ordered to kill, but says there is no point in taking them out because someone else will take their place. And the whole story line does nothing to make Maki think she's mistaken. Even if the protagonist solved people's problems before assassination needs to become a option, people will ask her to kill regardless. Maki could absolutely take back her and the orphanage's freedom and if she still needs the money she could kill bad guys for other bad guys. And I imagine they aren't giving her a lot of money for her hits if she thinks feeding a single orphanage is impossible by herself. A professional assassin of her caliber should be making hundreds of thousands, if not millions for her hits.
she doesn’t kill for money though, the people controlling her behind force her to do the work for them and then THEY get the money, that’s the whole reason for the orphanage . and she had given up because she had been through so much, she had lost her parents at a young age, built to assasinate people against her will and not knowing what to do about it, reminder that she’s just a teenager. and and she just became emotionless and gave up on trying to change at all.

So, a tip for dating........ Always agree to what they're thinking...... even though its not true........ Damn, the theme carries on for even this mode of the game!
I would honestly like Maki if she actually regretted her actions and realized she was wrong. Like she talks like her killing some innocent people is "justified" because of her work(also for money) and she showed no signs of planning to stop, not to mention she thinks of herself as a fucking victim when she herself CHOOSE to kill its not as if she didn't have a choice yet she acts like she doesn't when she clearly does.

She killed so that the people behind the orphanage would continue to fund and care for those in it. If she failed, they'd either dispose of the orphanage or send another orphan to do it. That part ties into another point. While Maki did choose to go, she only did because she didn't want her friend to do it. She thought her friend would die if she was sent. So Maki volunteered to keep that from happening. Her friend was seen as one of the more gifted orphans, so in a sense Maki didn't have a choice. Because if she didn't go, or if she broke at any point, then odds are her friend would be the next one up.
