Another Maugham! Thank you for posting this. I love Maugham the playwright. It's somewhat forgotten that he was the most successful Edwardian playwright -- he generally wrote what was called "dramatic comedies." There were over twenty-five of them, most all of them produced, and most all of them successful. He was the link between Oscar Wilde and Noel Coward. Maugham's plays were always more interesting to me than any of his novels (as were his wonderful short stories).
What a delightful comedy! I chuckled, laughed, smiled the whole way through at their antics, including the parody of the specious ads. Maugham always made such clever use of the English language to outline characters so succinctly.
A bit disappointed with this story think there was an old black and white movie with the same story. Thought it was a bit much wanting her gifts back what an Indian giver

A housewife would love it if there were no annoying adverts
The people doing the adverts have South African accents... Was this originally broadcast on South African radio?
They aren’t. They are decidedly RP British
Yes, Lux Radio Theatre, South Africa

Small price to pay to be rid of that self centered gal.
She talks too fast. Hard to follow.
