As a young person, man you're right on the money. We don't enjoy the MCU parodying itself to death whatsoever. It's redundant. Keep up with the reviews man! We love em :D
In a nutshell Jeremy without Kang aka Jonathan Majors the movie sucks. with him in it a meh 😑. At best. you're just like the rest you will not 💩 on a Marvel movie. do me a favour Jeremy...... Grow some balls. This is a thumbs down 👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿 review
You haven’t been missing much. I feel like at least half the stuff that came out in phase four just wasn’t very good, especially Thor Love and Thunder. I don’t know what’s going on with Marvel these days but it’s such a mixed bag now, compared to the infinity saga where most movies were pretty great at least. I’m starting to lose hope in Marvel a bit.
@Nicholas Loki at least makes sense as a quippy character; he’s a trickster god and it helps flesh out his dynamic with the (usually) more serious Thor. But yeah, Ultron should’ve been more intimidating. What If? actually did that pretty well.
@Budgie Cat I'll always remember watching “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”. When Ceasar first speaks screaming “No!” the theatre was dead save for one guy going “What?” And everyone laughed. But the most bizarre experience for me. Was that time watching “Arrival.” When out of nowhere, two guys a few seats behind me, mid movie just started having a regular volume conversation... like did you suddenly forget where you were?
@Budgie Cat Okay one, that sounds like an awesome experience. Never seen a movie like that. Two, honestly I still might have you beat. I sat next to this stoned douchebag when I watched “Multiverse of Madness”. Wouldn't stop yelling obnoxious comments the whole film. My biggest life regret was not telling him to shut the fuck up. So yeah... basically ruined that film, not that it was great anyway.
@Budgie Cat I'm not talking about assholes who whisper talk through the movie. I'm talking about mofos who out of nowhere when it had been quiet throughout. Start having a full volume conversation. And it wasn't even like they were doing that throughout the whole thing. It was like they thought they had left the theatre.
It's because they doubled down on the identity politics and woke garbage post Endgame. That's the reason why it took a hit in quality. The only good thing they made post Endgame was No Way Home. EVERYTHING else has been either mediocre or straight up hot garbage. But of course of you have sheeple on r/marvelstudios who will gladly consume whatever garbage Disney shoves down their throat and consume product and move onto next product without asking questions like typical NPCs in the game of life.
The way they treated Scott Lang in the first 20 minutes or so was so infuriating. This man literally saved the world and brought back half the universe, and everyone around him was acting like he was a bad person for just wanting to try and live a normal life.
I’m really surprised y’all still take the abuse Marvel’s been giving for years They always do this. They keep doing this. They will not stop for anything, except maybe public outcry.
@@Tzgrey77 Cassie acting like that is the most convincing part imo. It’s the same way most teenagers view their parents. I think parents were supposed to relate to Scott more than we were supposed to relate to Cassie.
Saw the movie today. It felt more like Antman had walked into a Guardians of The Galaxy or Dr Strange movie and inhabitants from Tatooine had crossed over to join him.
See, I'm 33 and I prefer the tone fit the characters. I'm happy when something like Wakanda Forever or Dr. Strange hold back on the jokes, but Thor is a goofy space viking with magical lightning hammer/axe. I'm fine with the goofy tone
I remember watching Civil War when it came out- I was 15. And I never fully grasped the severity of having The Avengers fighting each other because during the battle they still joked around. The humor make took a lot of the stakes out of the ordeal. MCU really has to work on that.
Though it worked much better in Civil War because ultimately they didn't want to hurt each other (in the airport fight). That movie at least knew when to actually get and stay serious.
@@wiremesh2 Yea, I agree. Everyone who bitches about "them joking during the airport scene, no stakes". doesn't make sense to me. I think people are reading into what they wanted or expected. Cause the movie justifies the tone of that fight scene. People just wanted them to kill each other I guess. Civil War is a great movie, and definitely one of the best MCU movies (not that the bar is high anymore anyways).
I think that at least by the end fight that goes away for a bit for it to be more serious if they just have a couple more serious moments sprinkled in and not so intent on jumping g back into being silly it could help the tone of a lot marvel movies be more even with their tone
4:43 No you're right Jeremy. As someone who's in his early 20's and grew up with the MCU, the quippiness is too much even as a child I was wondering why characters would always have a smart or snarky comebacks.
25 but same. This quippy nature of conversations in the MCU is frustrating. Like the post credit of Black Widow, why did Julia's character have to comically blow her nose and ruin a moment for Yelena? Couldn't it have more sense to just have Yelena walk back to her car and find Julia waiting there.
same bro I'm 22. Ever since Endgame, other than NWH its been ehhh. I want films that seem like they're taking their time to make, and are ok with being serious and heartfelt moreso than being quippy. Super hyped for GOTG 3 tho...saw the first one in theaters before high school and it was the first time I started caring about Marvel. That's the only series that seems like its just one persons vision over a studio committee. ALSO the first review I ever saw from Jeremy :)
This movie and Thor love and thunder have one thing in common which is a bad guy that is a lot cooler than the rest of the film which makes you leave the theater feeling like they could have done more.
I think Christian Bale (as an actor) was HELLA underutilized in Love & Thunder (which, unfortunately I kinda HATED!!!). Great actor, fantastic body of work, a great Marvel supervillain, top-notch screen presence - TERRIBLE movie!!! 😩😩😩
@@alcoop8729 I'd FULLY agree, Bruv!!! Him & the super short time with Guardians Of The Galaxy. 🤦🏾♂🤦🏾♂🤦🏾♂ Pretty much everything else was throw-away cinema...😖😖😖
In The Dark Knight, the joker and two face stole the show. And that was a good movie. It's meant to be like that. Loki is also very interesting and Hela. That said, the most important thing is the movie being good. Hope antman 3 is good though
Excellent point on the MCU's humor. It's definitely one of its selling points, but that doesn't mean there has to be a joke every 5 seconds, when characters are having intimate moments, and especially when the villain is on screen. It lessens how threatening your villains are supposed to be, and takes away from moments that deserve to be serious.
@@beardedmario6414 Yeah for sure. I have heard people say it started with the gotg, and while that is likely true, the gotg movies I think had the perfect balance of it. The serious moments felt serious, even when jokes were sprinkled in they never felt out of place or at a bad time.
I miss the more serious tone of phase 1 where jokes ACTUALLY felt natural and were said and done in the correct moments. Not when the hero was fighting for their dear life…🤦🏻♂️
Into the Spider-Verse originally had Spider-Ham crack a joke about his dead uncle. They replaced it with the powerful and moving line that you can’t always save everybody. Sony had more discipline than Marvel.
My biggest pet peeve with the marvel movies is the constant need to remove their mask/helmet so the actors can be seen. Even doing the smallest task the mask/helmet goes on and then immediately comes off.
I actually thought the first 2 phases were boring af . It wasn't until end game that I got really into it . And I enjoyed the start of the multiverse saga. Multiverse of madness was a disappointment, but wanndvision and loki were great . And so was this movie
I actually liked the way how Scott’s motivation throughout the entire trilogy has always been about Cassie. Even throughout his adventures becoming more grand scale he still never changed. I’m a sucker for consistent character writing because a lot of times a character will change drastically over his time on screen. I actually liked the way how Scott’s motivation throughout the entire trilogy has always been about Cassie. Even throughout his adventures becoming more grand scale he still never changed.
I mean, Cassie’s character is anything but consistent though. She was my least favorite part of this movie and ruined that father daughter dichotomy for me.
....what? Change is natural and necessary for characters to grow. I mean isn't that a given? Wanting a character to stay the exact same is unnatural af.
That's why I haven't bothered with anything after III, Desmond's story was done. As the great Altair and Ezio both said I have seen enough for one life.
It’s not old man energy, Jeremy. It’s called logic, and not being easily impressed by half-assed work. I always hate when people say stuff like: “Dude. It’s a movie about a guy named Ant Man. It’s not supposed to be complex.” Or “it’s got laser swords and star fighters. It’s not supposed to be deep.” These people are what’s wrong with the world. They happily accept whatever is placed in front of them, allowing entities like movie studios to not try as hard as they used to.
Tbf neither MCU or SW were ever anything more than just popcorn flicks for children. If you go into those movies expecting something other than goofy fun then that's on you. Those people you quoted are correct.
Yeah, they just dont care if the movie is ambitious or not, as long as it has lasers going on. They forget that you can have a deep story and a bunch of lasers going around. Still, they are not worse than those Twitter fanboys who get excited for the most average stuff. They just accept the most basic stuff and then try to put it on the pedestal like its some great thing. Their level of excitement often makes them blind to the more important issues of the films. Cant believe there is more "basic shakers" than the fans who can love something, yet still recognize when it goes down.
@@stormy6029 Here is the thing, the comics MCU is based around have some decent stories, Disney doesnt have to dumb them down. Marvel should feel wrong that movies like Kung Fu Panda, Puss in Boots or anything Dreamwork has ever produced, have more depth than the live action sci fi movies they do. Unfortunately, we have people who accept the most basic stuff, who dont realize that you can have fun in a movie, why it still remains deep. The dreamworks movies I listed are the perfect example of how to balance fun and deep moments, MCU doesnt have that.
My sister who is a huge Thor/ Marvel fan, walked out of Thor Love and Thunder halfway through it. I'm glad I didn't waste my money watching it. I wasn't hopeful for Antman 3 and this review told me everything I need to know.
@@ariescustom I Dissagree and I am Excited and Conscious Optimistic for AntMan and the Wasp Quantumania I’m seeing this film theaters on Thursday opening Night it’s be a Fun time.
I feel like Thor Love and Thunder really kinda resulted in this paradigm shift for Marvel. This is really their last chance to really grab audience attention. And that's not anything BAD. If anything they should be taken down a peg or two. They bit off more than they could chew with so many things releasing all at once. Shows, movies, it's too much. And them pushing movies back kinda shows they know it. Other universes are cropping up that people are showing more and more interest in; Sonic the Hedgehog, Transformers, people are even excited for a Shrek comeback after Puss in Boots the Last Wish....It's about time Marvel had some real competition again to push them to be better.
transformers is gaining interest,??? also sonic is so geared towards kids. i agree with 90% of your comment, excellent points… but do u see these universes ever being as large as even early MCU?
Transformers.. No. Micheal bay killed that franchise because of exploding grass lol. On God when I saw that I said nope. The first transformers was great and the one with lockdown was better, more threatening than Megatron. Too much comedy and it was awful. This transformers meh. Bumble bee was great. I hope the looming threat is unicron.
@Tim Sim bro I wasn't expecting anything from the flash, but if it actually sticks the Flashpoint paradox ending and uses it to launch a new DC ran by James Gunn, they're gonna be a problem for the mcu.
Gotta say, I only ever saw Kang in the animated Avengers Shows and he never cam across as dangerous as he should have imo. Looking forward to see him in this movie
Scott has been a quiet favourite of mine in the MCU. I'm cautiously optimistic about this one. It sounds like they came close to making a great movie that overcomes the MCU's major failings. And then reshoots happened. Poor Scott
@@tribacioustee2846 I have watched it. The humour of this movie sucks. It could be removed for the movie to be ten times better. MODOC is cringe and unnecessary.
26 here and I’m beyond sick of the jokes in objectively serious situations, seeing heroes cracking jokes when people are dying or in peril makes them all look like complete disconnected narcissists and I can never take it seriously, stakes all feel fake cause characters treat it that way
I miss the more serious tone Marvel had. Yes, they still had their funny moments, but mostly serious, which is why I'm super excited for Secret Invasion show. That trailer gave me Winter Soilder vibes.
@@colinbrunette54 They were never gonna make Chad or BP the face of the MCU. Between Disney and Sony they're hoping Tom Holland can be the face or to some extent have the success as RDJ/Tony did.

Jeremy's favorite 2021 movie was ZSJL. I think he'll be effectively pissed when he realizes James "Friends with 2 convicted p*dophiles" Gunn plans to not only disregard the Snyderverse, but effectively retcon it out of existence with the Flash. All while keeping his friends and family in. Can you kids say "nepotism"? I am seething about it.
Just came back from my viewing. All I can say is that the whole point of the movie was to establish Kang as a formidable opponent. And if the movie didnt do it, the mid credits scene definitely did.
@@GinNBoost SPOILER WARNING. I think they subverted expectations to be honest. The marketing and information given by Marvel made it seem like the death of He Who Remains in the Loki series set this Kang (the conqueror) to be the big bad going forward but it was all a swerve. Maybe I'm missing or forgetting a key detail but the Kang they gave us in this film is revealed to be trying to prevent the multiverse from collapsing in on itself (in his own messed up way). If the post credit gives us any indication, we're being introduced to the truly evil Kangs.
Remember when going to see the latest MCU movie felt like an event that stopped the entire world until everyone had gone to see it? Yeah those days are long gone. I could not be less excited for this movie

I discovered Jonathan Majors on Lovecraft Country. When they announced him as Kang I was immediately hyped and after his appearance in Loki I wanted to see more of him. Glad to know he crushed it!!!
Glad I am not the only one saw what they did there. I mean one of Ant-man's power is to command ants and it's really a good decision that the OG Ant-man did it.
I am SO GLAD you mentioned Tron Legacy in this, because I literally messaged my coworker while I was watching this movie and said "Yo, this movie is basically Tron Legacy meets Spy Kids 3" and I wasn't sure if anybody was gonna remember Tron Legacy well enough to make that connection. The only reason I did was because I rewatched it late last year, so it was fresh in my head. *Minor spoilers for the first act* Also, my biggest gripe with the movie was the fact that they spend an entire hour of the movie's 2 hour runtime referring to Kang using nothing but pronouns. At a point I started to think maybe Kang had some Voldemort magic. Like if you say his name he gets your location and can teleport right to you or something. But that wasn't a thing at all. Everyone is just super vague about Kang for no reason, even though he's all over this movie's marketing. It annoyed the shit out of me in what was otherwise a really fun movie for me.
Could that have been a leftover of the Loki show coming out when Ant-Man 3 was being made? Maybe Kang was a hidden thing so he wasn’t mentioned in the script until later in the movie?
I used to be so excited for the next MCU movie. I remember watching the Incredible Hulk in theaters and my 10 year old brain being blown away at the implications. 15 years later I’m so burnt out with these movies and shows. I’ve stopped watching them in theaters because everyone is so loud at the slightest bit of humor or the obvious plot element that was coming. I used to enjoy most of them and now I enjoy a few of them. I’ll click on marvel pages on Instagram and Twitter and see how almost every fan say that each movie in pase four is a 10, 9, or 8.5. I was very disappointed with the multiverse of madness due to Sam raimi being back and seeing what would happen with Wanda but it was so bland and not as horror fueled as was being said. Don’t even want to talk about love and thunder. I was only slightly disappointed with wakanda forever only because my expectations were low but they were still too high. It’s sad to see where it is considering how it was just a few years ago.
Jonathan Majors is the whole reason I want to see this film. Had no interest in Creed 3 either then I saw he was the antagonist and said I’m there! Such an underrated actor!
I haven’t seen much of the stuff he has been in but I am really glad that he is getting all these major parts in Hollywood. The little I have seen has been enough to show how incredibly talented he is. I’m excited to see this movie just for him.
@@raulinhomaster He’s not underrated now obviously. But 4-5 years ago he was mostly known for arthouse movies like The Last Black Man in San Francisco.
@@MrBrock314 True, it’s possible for a prominent actor to also be underrated. But in these cases of going “upwards” in the business so quickly, I like to think it’s somewhat related to them being discovered and appreciated by an exponentially growing group of viewers.
I haven't seen Quantumania yet. But, in general, I think Marvel is indeed aiming at a younger demographic with their recent movies and shows. It wouldn't surprise me if they intended for their humor to appeal to younger audiences.
But they shouldn’t be going for younger audiences, the people who have started with this have grown up and are now adults, kids don’t know what’s going on in the story they haven’t been there since the beginning. If anything they should be making their movies way darker and more mature.
Just watched it. Definitely missing a lot but I agree that Jonathan Majors absolutely destroyed it as Kang. Definitely excited to see him pop off in the Avengers movies!
As cool as Kang is, it makes me wonder how much of a threat he truly has the potential to be when Phase 4 introduced a character who if they don't like how things are going, has the power to literally burst out through the fourth wall and bully a robot Kevin Feige into changing things for them. I get why Marvel wanted to experiment around during that phase but when they need to condense it back into a central plot, it makes me wonder if they played a little too loose with Pandora's box.
@@blurryperson2685 Honestly I hate meta humor in general, even from Deadpool, as I find it cheap and immersion breaking. Though if I had to get in the mind of Deadpool's hardcore fans, they'd probably argue that Wade simply talks to the audience or him effecting the world outside his is written off as a gag instead of a canon plot point.
@@thxrsdxy6275 that’s the inverse. Deadpool only ever breaks the fourth wall for jokes. The plot of She Hulk’s finale is literally a fourth wall break.

I’m 22 on the 22nd and I hate the new trend of giving every character a comedic relief role. There’s no time to let drama or emotion to seep in. It’s why I loved Avatar 2 as it was so earnest, and allowed the audience to feel genuine emotion for a while (that ending 😭) - I hope I’m not being a grumpy fuck here 😂😂
Oh man, what you have done!? You just said you loved Avatar 2, now those "cool people" who makes hating on Avatar movies their whole personality now gonna come after you.
@@everythingisawesome2903 Not everyone is gonna like the same things. I personally have no emotional connection with the Avatar franchise, but a ton of others seem to dig it.
I watched that and it reminded me of Dune in that at a point, I had to stop and go "Oh my God... Everyone's not trying to be funny." I mean, the funny's there, but it feels more organic.
I think errant humor can and has hurt a lot of Marvel movies, but I think that Ant-Man has always balanced that out quite well. He's a less serious guy and he's often doing less serious things, and that's a lot of fun and works for the character. I think this movie rode the line well for the most part, b/c like you said, when Kang is on screen (ie real shit is going down), no one's having a fun time. The humor kept the movie feeling like Ant-Man, without compromising that there were real stakes and danger. For myself, I really loved it. Best MCU movie in a while (Black Panther 2 was good, but so steeped in grief that it's a hard rewatch for me).
"Good time if you're drunk" this is the first time I'm actively imagining this. If you were drunk and watching this movie, holy crap that would definitely be a trip haha
Thank you for saying it he carried this whole film. Every scene he was in I was in it for the full ride of that scene. He was cold and calculated and put people in their place. Wasn't to thrilled with how he was taken care of here but still excited to see Kang in the future.
2:45 Good to hear that about Kang. I saw Devotion (2022) in theaters a few months ago and can say Jonathan Majors is a serious dramatic actor, so it's good they don't make a joke out of him. Also, I'm curious to see how the influence of Tron: Legacy comes in. One of my favorite sci-fi films 3:20
Agreed with the points here. I am a fan of Corey Stoll(modawk) and he has grown a lot as actor. But there were already way too much characters that it felt excessive. Kang(Jonathan majors) did show up. He had a stellar performance in loki and marvel made a great casting choice here. Excited for creed which has both Michael b jordan and majors.
This was a really great review. I looked at this movie like Ant-Man and the Wasp times 2. It wasn't just Scott and Hope, but also Janet and Hank, and they all did hero type shit. That was pretty sweet, just that alone, but Kang stole the movie. Hands down. You're spot on though, when it comes to the quippiness and everything having to be funny, and so many other things. I'll say this, it was far better than Love and Thunder. I had a good time with this movie, warts and all. P.S. I liked that MODOK was lame because he's lame in the comics and he's always been lame so it makes sense lol. He's always been a joke. Anyone who gets mad about that, I don't know what to tell you.
Modok being lame was great but it wasn’t consistent with Darren Cross’ character. Plus his redemption arc came out of nowhere and was shoehorned last second. Still enjoyed his time on screen though.
@@jaguar1224 The whole thing was a joke and the way they played it, it was supposed to be that way. Inconsistent with his character? He was stuck for years in the quantum realm as a giant head lol. Come on now. Character changes. Especially under extenuating circumstances.
Depends on your definition of subpar. By most objective standards (money grossing, reviews, etc), the MCU is above par 95% of the time. Only Eternals has a negative rotten tomato review (with critics, specifically, it was still 77% by audience standards). Even TLA (which got a lot of hate online last year) has a 77% audience score. That's not subpar at all.
@@MrBrock314 For the life of me, I don't understand why fans/moviegoers use money grossed as a metric to determine the quality of a film. I'd understand if you worked for the studio, or had a role in the movie... but.. more than likely, you don't. With that logic, because a studio invested the most money in a film/show ever, that product should be considered top tier as well. No... doesn't matter, nor does it make sense.
Watched it today. Liked it overall though I did think it got a bit too dragged out at times. Could've definitely lived w/o modok in my life. Kang was amazing though.
That's because some DCEU movies (specially Snyder movies) have some scenes that are so serious that become stupid because of the serious tone. The Martha scene, all the Lex Luthor scenes, the Jared Joker scenes (although that is just bad acting).
Dc gets too serious for that it becomes funny and ridiculous while Marvel has some serious shit that supposed to go on but they have to interrupt with stupid quippy jokes. The Batman and Captain America Winter Soldier are basically the holy grail of Dc and Marvel respectively when it comes to quality and balance of seriousness and humor with great action for me.
You have to earn both funny and serious. The MCU doesn't always earn its humour and DC almost often fails to earn its seriousness (minus perhaps Joker where its serious tone feels in line with its world). That Martha line in BvS is objectively silly, you can't play it serious, it won't work.
I thoroughly enjoyed this over some recent MCU outings and definitely over the first couple Ant-Man movies. It was good time, a true blockbuster that had real tense stakes. Something that feels sorely lacking in other areas of Marvel rn. It was a good time
James Camerón was right when he said most of the MCU characters act like college students rather than adults. Even worse knowing most of the cast are all middle aged men/women. It’s like that parent that’s trying too hard to relate to their kids and failing miserably. It’s become cringe inducing. 😒😖
This is the kind of film that would be considered mediocre 10 years ago. But it is considered decent now a days because of how far our standards have fallen in the quality of movie making.
The origin of the quippiness came from the first Avengers movie, which featured Joss Whedon's (setting aside his personality IRL) signature style of making a diverse group of eccentric characters behave like a bickering but ultimately loving family. Since then, almost every MCU movie tried to mimic that style. But he did it the best since he worked hard to get the formula right and balance drama and humor in his own shows (e.g. Firefly). He made it easier than it looked.
True. However, many of the marvel movies succeeded brilliantly with the balance of humour and drama and action and fantasy. If anything, there was more humour in the first two phases of MCU movies than in the typically disliked phase 4. You see, phase 4 will age wonderfully and has more gems, more quality narratives than most online fanboys/babies can imagine. All the great phase 4 movie and shows: Spider Man NWH, Shang Chi, BP Wakanda Forever, Eternals{yes, a good unique comic book movie that can't appeal to the masses who think they are smart, but really are NOT}, Loki, Wandavision, MS Marvel, What If some episodes. Werewolf by night special on Disney +. Not all of these movies and shows had an overuse of quips and corny dialogue. Only the worst marvel movies and shows of phase 4 overdid the humor. The good ones, balanced humor and drama so well ie. Spidey NWH, Wakanda Forever which was a very serious dramatic grief filled film.
@@EmpireStateUtopian_Dystopia You, who are neither online fanboy nor fanbaby nor part of the NOT-smart masses, are entitled to your opinion. I agree that lately there have been a LOT of narratives, but I think this has confused the masses. Phase 3 was simple and built up the threat of thanos. It's difficult to summarize in one sentence what Phase 4 was about. That's another reason for the declining popularity of the MCU.
@@EmpireStateUtopian_Dystopia Holy shit the cope. People don't even like NWH anymore kid Wakanda Forever made 500 million less than it's predecessors.
@@waynefung9901 Incidentally, that style is so specific to Whedon that it was on full display in Alien Resurrection, which -- even if written by Whedon -- was directed by someone else entirely.
I love the plot where Kang travelled across the multiverse, he came with a dream to conquer the world. Then got trapped in the quantum realm . Accidentally Antman came here and he made a plan to escape. He said , " It's kangin time " and then kanged the whole quantum realm !
First Christian Bale and now Jonathan Majors. The best part about MCU is that the villains are so good they make us realise how stale the rest of the movie is
I think my biggest problem would be how the movie wasn’t really focused on a specific character. Like at some point it’s a Scott Lang movie then it would be a Janet movie.
It was a Cassie movie. Sure she didn’t have any character development in anyway but did you see how she was a better ant-man on her first try than the guy who’s been fighting to save the universe?
This is probably the MCU's last chance to get people really invested into phase 4 the way we were hyped for the Infinity Saga but i doubt they'll hit those highs again

In response to your Ant-Man should stay small comment, even Kang addresses that. He says “you talk to ants”. So it just makes it that much more impressive or ironic or impactful that Lang ends up being such a thorn in Kang’s side. The juxtaposition of the two is extremely effective imo. Also, it makes sense because Lang pretty much botches it and didn’t really make sure Kang was gone or not. Any other hero might’ve been more thorough. Gives a good reason as to why Kang is still a threat.
😂 king is the worst villain who got smashed and killed by 2 Avenger and here he was multiversal threat the biggest joke has Been done by Marvel on audience
There is no point in keeping Kang’s name a secret for so long for the characters. That is only only for the audience, and even they know who they’re talking about.
I’m a young folk watching that, and no, I don’t enjoy the over-quippiness and snarky jokes from every character. It’s actually really annoying now and just makes me roll my eyes. EDIT: I found Doctor Strange’s “silliness” in MoM so strange? And Bucky too in FATWS.
Im 21 and grew up on marvel and pretty much anything superheros and action. Im now dying to witness a marvel film with gore and epic action. The humour in some of the scenes in the latest films really take you away from the tension that is supposed to happen. Thats why shows like The Boys and Invincible are doing so well IMO
Yea I’m pretty tired of the humor myself. Idk what it is exactly but I think they just had a better balance of drama and humor in the first 3 phases. Also man I’ve been really missing characters like iron man and cap. It’s so hard to fill the void they left cus they were both so perfect for those parts
Oof...sounds like a fun drunken time ahead for me this Friday. Glad to hear Kang is a highlight, as expected as I've been enthralled by Jonathan Major since The Last Black Man In San Fransisco in regards to his performances. Definitely a banner year for him and rightfully so. Otherwise, sounds like a wildly inconsistent film and definitely lines up with its lukewarm 60%+ tomato rating right now.

Listening to Goodbye Yellow Brick Road before watching the trailer, is the reason I will be seeing it this weekend!

I must confess I haven't kept up with the MCU since Avengers: Endgame.
That’s understandable
Tbh you haven't missed much. It's been all over the place and as far for interconnectivity goes, almost non-existent.
The amount of stuff you need to watch to keep up has become insane.
I've been off and on but it hasn't really been the same since endgame.
How to know you have a AVENGERS level threat on your hands, is when the villain is immune to MCU quipping ... Aka Thanos, and Kang.
My Russian uncle once said,
“Dimitri only 3 things are assured in life :
1 ) Death
2) Taxes
3) *MCU to ruin a good thing with comedy*
@Nicholas That final act on Sokovia was awesome asf.
Gorr was also pretty quipless. Christian Bale nailed that character. To bad the entire movie besides him was just joke after joke.
@Nicholas Loki at least makes sense as a quippy character; he’s a trickster god and it helps flesh out his dynamic with the (usually) more serious Thor. But yeah, Ultron should’ve been more intimidating. What If? actually did that pretty well.

Dude legit said out loud after the post-credits "That was better than the whole film" and everyone in the theatre genuinely burst out laughing
I said the same exact thing
@Budgie Cat Okay one, that sounds like an awesome experience. Never seen a movie like that. Two, honestly I still might have you beat. I sat next to this stoned douchebag when I watched “Multiverse of Madness”. Wouldn't stop yelling obnoxious comments the whole film. My biggest life regret was not telling him to shut the fuck up. So yeah... basically ruined that film, not that it was great anyway.
@Budgie Cat lol
I won’t lie, the marvel brand took a massive quality hit over the past few years for me at least.
Not just you who thinks this
for 2 years starting January 2021 with Wandavision.
Pretty much began it Age Of Ultron. Left the series and only came for Infinity Wars. And boy did I not miss much.
@@Unicornpirate Nah Marvel stumbled with Avengers 2 and only picked back up during Ragnorok.
The way they treated Scott Lang in the first 20 minutes or so was so infuriating. This man literally saved the world and brought back half the universe, and everyone around him was acting like he was a bad person for just wanting to try and live a normal life.

Thor 4 is definitely the worst Mcu movie

As someone who watched Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes as a kid, the idea of Ant Man and The Wasp going up against Kang is hilarious.
Great show!!
I hope Marvel brings back aemh for more seasons
You're talking as if that came out decades ago

That show is the reason this is my most anticipated MCU movie of all time. Yes, slightly above Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.
I remember watching Civil War when it came out- I was 15. And I never fully grasped the severity of having The Avengers fighting each other because during the battle they still joked around. The humor make took a lot of the stakes out of the ordeal. MCU really has to work on that.
Same. I was 14 back then. Now I am bit too old for their stupid comedy.
I can’t believe it’s been a problem for over 10 years and they never stopped
4:43 No you're right Jeremy. As someone who's in his early 20's and grew up with the MCU, the quippiness is too much even as a child I was wondering why characters would always have a smart or snarky comebacks.
Same man. Iron man came out when I was 9
Same, i was 7 when Iron Man 1 came out
I was 11 when Iron Man came out. I'm 25 now
25 but same.

In The Dark Knight, the joker and two face stole the show. And that was a good movie. It's meant to be like that. Loki is also very interesting and Hela. That said, the most important thing is the movie being good. Hope antman 3 is good though
Also annoying kids.
I always felt GoG 2 did joking while serious stuff is happening right with the David hasslehof scene
@@beardedmario6414 Yeah for sure. I have heard people say it started with the gotg, and while that is likely true, the gotg movies I think had the perfect balance of it. The serious moments felt serious, even when jokes were sprinkled in they never felt out of place or at a bad time.

Yeah, they just dont care if the movie is ambitious or not, as long as it has lasers going on. They forget that you can have a deep story and a bunch of lasers going around.
Still, they are not worse than those Twitter fanboys who get excited for the most average stuff. I haven't seen Quantumania yet. But, in general, I think Marvel is indeed aiming at a younger demographic with their recent movies and shows. It wouldn't surprise me if they intended for their humor to appeal to younger audiences.
even they they still implied sex while they were in the quantum realm which isnt exactly intended for young audiences to hear
The problem is, even for 7 years olds, that humor is just too dumb.
They’re called groomers for a reason
But they shouldn’t be going for younger audiences, the people who have started with this have grown up and are now adults, kids don’t know what’s going on in the story they haven’t been there since the beginning. If anything they should be making their movies way darker and more mature.
MCU is for kids mate
Not seeing it in theaters now. Thanks for the review.

That's a weird take when most of you guys love Deadpool lol
@@blurryperson2685 This was my exact thought lol. Cause that was simply a visual 4th wall break
@@finleymorris04 I was about to say the same thing. There's a big difference between quippy fourth wall moments and literally breaking wall and talking to the writers.

I watched that and it reminded me of Dune in that at a point, I had to stop and go "Oh my God... Everyone's not trying to be funny." I mean, the funny's there, but it feels more organic.
@@patrickg3796 Watch the video!
Avatar 2 had funny moments when warranted. That middle finger scene was hilarious.
Imma go high into this film 🤣
Well...I can't say I'm excited for this one
We need more serious tones in the MCU.
The ants beating Kang was a fucking joke imo
Recurring theme in the MCU... Damn good actors playing stand-out villains in sub-par movies/shows
Probably because they aren't the ones trapped in forever contracts.
Same with the composers
Depends on your definition of subpar. By most objective standards (money grossing, reviews, etc), the MCU is above par 95% of the time. Only Eternals has a negative rotten tomato review (with critics, specifically, it was still 77% by audience standards). Even TLA (which got a lot of hate online last year) has a 77% audience score. That's not subpar at all.
@@MrBrock314 Rotten tomatoes do not reflect the quality of the films pretty well.
@@MrBrock314 For the life of me, I don't understand why fans/moviegoers use money grossed as a metric to determine the quality of a film. With that logic, because a studio invested the most money in a film/show ever, that product should be considered top tier as well. No... doesn't matter, nor does it make sense.

Kang's motivation is like listening to a drunk homeless dude in front of a grocery shop
Most MCU villains are like that… or they’ll throw in a lazy sympathetic backstory like they’ve done for half their villains
So true, i thought his motivation was badly developed
I heard Kang just has a bunch of monologues where he can do his Shakespeare. Very little action scenes in this movie.

Thank you for that Jahn. The MCU humor always breaks the sense of immersion for me. Then DC gets hammered for being serious.
That's because some DCEU movies (specially Snyder movies) have some scenes that are so serious that become stupid because of the serious tone. The Martha scene, all the Lex Luthor scenes, the Jared Joker scenes (although that is just bad acting).
@@martinaguiluz4063exactly,the dc movies take themselves so seriously when they have some very dumb stuff that it makes it hilarious
DC gets hammered for making shit films, not for being serious. No I'm not saying they're all shit, but some were trainwrecks.
Quips are funny when they're unexpected. IMO a big problem with the MCU now is that it's ALWAYS expected
Saw your review on a facebook channel yesterday..over 4 million views there! awesome!
Nice that he is killing it in Facebook too. Will help in increasing subscribers and reaching more and more audience.
I feel like Jeremy was really angry when he filmed this. It brings me lots of joy to watch him be grumpy
I thoroughly enjoyed this over some recent MCU outings and definitely over the first couple Ant-Man movies. It was good time, a true blockbuster that had real tense stakes. Something that feels sorely lacking in other areas of Marvel rn. It was a good time
The character aged so she's been down there a while. And my question is did Scott see any Whos down in Whoville?
James Camerón was right when he said most of the MCU characters act like college students rather than adults. Even worse knowing most of the cast are all middle aged men/women. It’s like that parent that’s trying too hard to relate to their kids and failing miserably. It’s become cringe inducing. 😒😖
The whole movie is essentially Janet's fault because she kept quiet about Kang.
But she's a woman so we won't blame her because we don't want to be labeled sexist. Welcome to the 2020s.
@@SourRobo8364 Actually randomly blaming people for their sex was deemed sexist many decades ago.
I want to see Jonathan Majors flourish in this role. His presence is formidable and magnetic
They made him lose to ants
This is exactly why I said, after MoM I’m keeping my expectations low and hoping to be pleasantly surprised
People don't even like NWH anymore kid
Wakanda Forever made 500 million less than it's predecessors.
@@waynefung9901
Incidentally, that style is so specific to Whedon that it was on full display in Alien Resurrection, which -- even if written by Whedon -- was directed by someone else entirely.

First Christian Bale and now Jonathan Majors. The best part about MCU is that the villains are so good they make us realise how stale the rest of the movie is
Both of those actors got completely wasted. Shame. The MCu used to be so good.

In response to your Ant-Man should stay small comment, even Kang addresses that. He says “you talk to ants”. So it just makes it that much more impressive or ironic or impactful that Lang ends up being such a thorn in Kang’s side. The juxtaposition of the two is extremely effective imo. Also, it makes sense because Lang pretty much botches it and didn’t really make sure Kang was gone or not. Any other hero might’ve been more thorough.
