I also wanted to get your opinion on the fan noise and heat from the new chip. Thanks for making this video. There are few videos about this laptop. Keep making videos. I encourage you to write out your scripts first. It will help the video flow better and keep you from saying "um" so much. Best of luck to you
I've been playing around with one for 5 days already. Fan noise is almost non-existent. When playing video games it gets louder, but nothing crazy. I'm quite happy with it. It is a beast.
Thank you for a valuable comment, Dane, appreciate it. As for the noise level, as Kirill already mentioned it's literally non-existent. The only laptop that exceeds XPS in terms of quietness would probably be the Apple MBP M1 (Pro/Max). As I mentioned in the video, it's not meant for gaming, but even if you run a game, the notice level would rise to 48-50Db which is more than a bearable level of noise compared to the competition.
Hello. It's nice to hear familiar pronunciation) I would really like to know your personal opinion about battery life in surfing mode (or remote access to the working slot [ssh / nx ] ). What are the temperatures and noise from such simple job? I ordered a similar model for myself (only I took less RAM), but it's not too late to refuse... And greetings from Kyiv)
Thanks for your comment, Yaroslav ;). I would strongly encourage you not to cancel the order. In my humble opinion this is the best XPS model Dell was able to make so far. Sturdy aluminum design, the weight and shape, as well as the power if offers is incomparable. My daily work is software development and this laptop is a descent machine for people who value performance and also care about design (no surprise). I've been playing with this laptop for quite a while already and to my surprise it works flawlessly in all work modes, like development, design, entertainment, etc. The previous XPS models had some issues with thermal throttling and one of the recommendations I was offering back then was repasting (I can bet, disassembling the brand new laptop on day 1 is not something you would want to do, for sure). With 9520 you'd be surprised how quiet it is (as for Intel-powered laptop!!). When it comes to battery life, Dell did a good job here as well. This machine features 6 Cell, 86 Wh, integrated battery and in my tests, during the combined workload (which involves constantly browsing the web, rendering this video and running tests you saw in the video) it lasted ~9h 40min. Potentially, just for the web browsing the battery life should be sufficient for approx. 12h of autonomous work!. The only laptop that beats this mark is Apple based on M1 chip. The cooling system does an outstanding job. I often like to work with the laptop that sits on my knees and it's rather cold (again, cooling is good!). If you'd run heavier workloads, like the video rendering or gaming, it'll become hot at the very center (between keys F and K, exactly where the CPU and GPU reside), but the temperature is not scolding hot (it'd be close to 40-42C). Here's a good comparison between the 9520 and Apple MBP M1 Max: nanoreview.net/en/laptop-compare/dell-xps-15-9520-2022-vs-apple-macbook-pro-16-2021?m=b.2_c.3_d.3_g.2_r.4_s.4-and-c.2_r.3
@@strive2code301 I'm sad to say this, but Dell canceled my order... They refused to deliver the laptop to Ukraine through a non-official distributor (30% more expensive). Now I'm working on Macbook Air M1 (16/256). It is enough for development, but I want something more powerful, sometimes I want to do 3D modeling (This is a hobby). I can only drool over this incredible laptop. I can’t order it to Ukraine in any way (
So sorry to hear that, Yaroslav. I'm surprised it is easier to get a MacBook delivered then Dell. Any customization inflicts 1.5mo of wait time, AFAIK. Good luck with your purchase :)
Thanks a lot! for this video ill be starting my collage in the study arts of photography, videography and cinematography and really want to buy this one!! never been a fan of Mac OS or IOS being a longtime android and windows (desktop) user i'm happy to see the dell xps comes really close (close enough for me) to the macbooks max are there any specific builds you would recommend for my usage?
When it comes to video rendering and graphics design the first thing you need to pay attention to is the processor (CPU). I'd go with 12th gen i9 to make sure the laptop has enough processing power for whatever workload you have in mind. Next comes storage. In design, the objects designers are working with are quite heavy. Fortunately for us, DELL is configurable and the actual machine has two SSD slots. If you buy a configuration with 1Gb, you'll have 1 more SSD slot available and can always purchase an additional 1Tb once you need space. According to the configuration builder here: www.dell.com/en-us/shop/cty/pdp/spd/xps-15-9520-laptop/xn9520fmgks the i9 only goes with NVIDIA 3050 45W. As for the amount of memory (RAM) you have to be very careful. This is something you'll be able to change later, for sure, but at your own expense and the upgrade is quite costly. IMO, 32Gb is enough for most workloads. The price difference between the 64Gb version is quite considerable. If you buy the laptop for 3-4 years, I'd go with 64Gb to make sure it'll be able to handle updated tools etc. Even in this configuration, it'll be cheaper compared to MacBook Pro M1.
This is the exact model my bro gifted me the other day. It is a-w-e-s-o-m-e!! Although 17 inch has better GPU, better battery and better cooling. The only drawback of this laptop is a FCKN SMALL ASS ARROW KEYS!!! Just make right shift smaller, Dell! No one uses it anyway. And make arrow keys normal. They are essential for developers ffs
Absolutely agree, Kirill, this laptop is the best XPS Dell managed to make so far. I've got an older XPS 7590 and if you compare the two, 9520 is considerably more miniature. I'm surprised at how quiet it is. Totally understand your concern about the keyboard :) Maybe a dock station would be of some help.
At the moment I've heard that the power button is the same as the fingerprint (touch ID) button, I've discarted this laptop as an option for me, since i will never leave my fingerprint/touch ID in the digital world, even if you can disable this option on the settings. There is a reason why this is happening and been done so...

Thank you for review!
Wanna buy the same XPS instead my DELL latitude 5520 (2022).

@@strive2code301 Btw, I like the books you got on the shelf. Some of them I had myself.
Thank you, Kirill. I adore Manning Publishing. Too bad they're getting outdated far too fast :)
Can you tell it's cost really
According to DELL's site, the base price is US $1449. Everything else depends on your budget and need.
I think 7590 is 2019 not 2020
You're right. I bought it in Canada in 2020 and it was presented to me as the newest, top shelf laptop by the vendor (Dell) back then.
