“Friends, rivals, and, at times, antagonists, Eduard Manet and Edgar Degas forged one of the most significant dialogues in 19th century art.
Their groundbreaking bodies of work would have been vastly different, if not unthinkable, without the creative exchanges that punctuated their careers from the time of their meeting in the early 1860s.
Examining their paintings, drawings and prints in direct juxtaposition for the first time, this exhibition not only highlights the intersections of their artistic production but also reveals the contrasts, conflicts, and divergent path that shaped modern art from its origins.
They were born just 2 years apart, both the eldest sons of Parisian upper-middle-class families, yet their different temperaments led to strikingly distinct styles, political views, careers strategies, and approaches to different media.”
“Manet/Degas is organized by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the Musées d’Orsay et de l’Orangerie, Paris. The exhibition is made possible by Alice Gary Brown and W.L. Lyons Brown, the Sherman Fairchild Foundation, and Harry and Linda Fath. Additional support is provided by the Janice H. I missed several paintings in Musee d’Orsay in October. These paintings are not included in my video of the museum. I will visit MMA at Christmas holiday and will make a video of missing painting. This video is well made and very enjoyable to watch. I use more photos. If it is very crowded as in M ‘O, it is very difficult to make a video like this.
