@@अंकितआर्य you should be careful with that. I've been doing a half marathon plan for about 4 months now and it has me rest 3-4 times a week. Even if you are doing easier stuff, take sunday off. Or just anything that can let you body kinda chill out.
@@अंकितआर्य mmmm rest is so hard when we’re running at a certain frequency of momentum. Today is mine. Definitely pendulating between peacefulness with it, and “shoulds” where I want to do my training. Stress + rest = growth (reminding myself).
Great advice and video! I try and save household chores and errands for rest day to keep from being bored and feeling unproductive. I also try to read (physical copies of books) and avoid music and my phone as much as possible since I’m dealing with those a lot the six other days of the week for training.
Love the Run Experience and am considering a unlocking all of the videos but just cant seem to gain access to the FREE 2-WEEK training program. The link here does not work and I have requested access to it in the past without success. It causes me to pause on moving forward on signing up for a full membership in the training programs. Help! you are my new 'go to' app and RUclips videos.
Solid vlog and advice. Glad you addressed these issues about rest days. Can a rest day be a weight/strength session too or is that not quiet a rest day?
In the words of Jack Daniels, a rest day is a part of training, not a break from it. Your body needs time to recover. Typically, 2 sessions a week of strength/cross training are part of the training itself, so not rest days. Even pros and elites take a full day off.
Francesca is correct here. Your max movement on a rest day should be mobility and maybe some light walking. Strength training (and the intensity of it) should absolutely be considered a workout/training day. Good question!
Not always - it can sometimes release and separate the fibers in my muscles so much that the muscles as a whole become a little 'lazy' to activate when I start running. After is best for foam rolling!
I personally love foam rolling before a run, as I find it helpful in loosening up muscles. Then afterwards, it helps settle down my muscles, especially if I run in the evening.
Would it be better to have a rest day the day before my long Sunday run or the day after my long Sunday run? I’ve been having my rest day be the day after and running every other day but the day before (Saturday is specific to cross training) but not sure if I should be resting before my long run or if it even matters (obviously no correct one answer but curious what others do)
I am a heretic: I do my long run on Saturdays. Recovery run Sunday, rest day Monday. Tuesday morning 30 minutes easy, speedwork that night. Wednesday morning easy, Wednesday night strength. Thursday morning easy, Thursday evening tempo. Friday morning easy, Friday evening strength. Saturday morning long steady. Sunday morning recovery, Sunday afternoon aggressive drinking for NFL, Sunday evening strength. Monday rest!!! I replace at least one easy session a week with an easy stationary ride. For me easy is HR monitored to be zone 2-3. Easy days easy, effort days effort! I also dont really go for fast reps/high HR during strength. Just the best form I can do. This means my HR average is always zone 1 or 2, but peak never out of zone 3. I know everyone does HR different, so for reference I use heart rate reserve, calculated with a tested max and resting rather than age based estimate.
The Run Experience Thanks! Can you recommend some running shoes for long distance running? I need plenty of support, stability, cushioning but I want them to be lightweight and durable. I'd really appreciate it! :)
@@valeriapopa I know it’s 3 years later but the winfow is really great, comfy, cushioned, I run in them and they’re a dream. I think barefoot style is more recommended I forget why but I always choice winflow over my barefoot style

😂🤣 I own a horse farm... there is no such thing as "rest days". I average 14k steps on non running days, usually pushing, pulling, or carrying something heavy. But I like the idea of "netflix and mobilize"!
I haven't had a rest day in 2 weeks... decided to take the day off today and loving every minute of it! Turned it into a cheat day also and I'm now eating McDonald's lol
I hate rest days...its so hard.
Totally. One day shouldn't be that big of a deal to take off but, it is.

On my "rest days" I do my stretching and go for a 5k speed walk. Works for me🙂
Rest days are harder than the days you actually workout

If you don't want running FOMO just have no friends who like running...that's my strategy!
This was a really timely message for me during my marathon taper. Solid advice, thoughtfully presented. Nice job, Holly!

Excellent tips. Very informative and well presented. Thank you.
Great Video! I have a rest day tomorrow and you have some great tips that I will use. Thank you Holly!
Great video! Thanks Holly and The Run Experience!
Thanks, coach Holly! Yes, I agree we'd better stay unplugged on the days we skip our runs. Lol...
Nice presentation and solid information 100%

What about a brisk or relaxed walk? Is that something that can be done on a rest day?
Hey Katie! Yep, a walk would be just fine on a rest day.
Great! I've started to do a 2-3 mile walk at lunch every day and was hoping I wasn't overdoing it, because it feels great.
excellent
R8 roller or foam roller? Which do you all prefer? Is one better for certain situations?
Mobilizing right now while watching ;-)

What shoes are you wearing? Are those Nike zoom Winflo 4 or Nike Air Zoom Pegasus? Which ones do you like most?
These are actually the Nike Lunar Skyelux. I don't run much in them (I am partial to Hokas) but they're a GREAT walking/standing shoe.
