Mad scientists making the 'Ultimate Being' are always interested in pure stats and nothing about aesthetics.
Cadillacs is kinda underrated for American standards, because here in Brazil, Cadillacs & Dinosaurs is synonymous with beat'em ups in general, you could find a Cadillacs machine in almost every corner (if said corner had arcade machines), to the point that I thought for a time that it was some Capcom random game, and only after I watched the cartoon, I was... Oh. Well, at least in terms of adaptations, the original source had a better track record than captain planet, eh?
Legend has it that they wouldn't let you open a bar in Brazil in the 90's if you didnt have a C&D arcade cabinet in a dark corner.
That's very interesting.
It's that way in Argentina and Chile too! Extremely popular game that was at every arcade, even the smaller ones that could only carry a few games had this.
The same could be said about Cadillacs in South Africa . It was very popular back then in the day , every arcade and corner store had one
Another South African here and just turned 19 but can confirm C&D was everywhere
29:35 Blanka making a background cameo was great to see.
This series definitely needs some kind of revival. New game, new show, just something.
I just want Mark Schultz to continue the comic.
It really does
I think the creator is still alive and working so he could make more comics or let someone else do so.
I heard the ova is pretty good!
@@Mankey619 GM probably wants a arm and a leg for the license
This game is very popular in Brazil. I had this friend who could beat with a single credit using Mustapha. Dude wouldn't stop wall jumping.
It is REALLY popular in Morocco. Mustapha is a no-brainer of course. But they would also mistake Hannah for Hannan, which is a common arab name. Instant popularity.
Now I'm picturing that meme of two guys brifisting over something they have in common.
Brazilians and Moroccans united by Mustapha's GUIROPIMEI kick
YES! The only restaurant in my one-horse hometown in Brazil had two arcade machines: a shmup and Cadillacs & Dinosaurs. It was my first experience with beat 'em ups and arcades in general. And what a fun game it is still to this day.
Cadillacs & Dinosaurs, Alien vs Predator, Punisher. Holy Trinity of Capcom's Beat Em Ups.
This soundtrack is SO GOOD, boss themes are so good.
4:17 When Matt talks about the "Final Uppercut", it really started to bug me until it dawned on me: I think Capcom SWAPPED the voices for Jack and Mess after recording the characters. Jack says "Final Uppercut" while doing a "Haymaker", and Mess says "Haymaker" while doing an "Uppercut"...
Did I uncover Capcom's dark secret with this game? 🤔
In a fair and just world, this would be a billion dollar franchise.
@@Mankey619 No.
@@Mankey619 Dwyne suck! How about anime instead!
@@Mankey619 We need a perfect cast to match all the characters
That parasite boss possessing jobbers almost looks like a Simpsons gag, "hey everybody, what's going o- AAAHHH GURGLE GURGLE".
Oh man, this was the STUFF back in the arcade days, together with Vendetta and Punisher, I've spent thousands of buckarinos and hours on them.
Right in the memories, man, right in the memories :)
For people who hadn't read much comics like me that think some characters were made for the game: The tank guy is a real Marvel character.
"Someone's going to pay!"
I see what you did there, Capcom. Absolute quarter muncher, that boomerang guy.
Spoliler alert: It's you, the player.
This game in Brazil has become a classic.
"Well I'll be damned, he's a double dinosaur"
Underrated and one of the best beat em' ups ever made. And it has one of the best soundtracks ever made, courtesy of Isao Abe and Shun Nishigaki.
This game was super popular here in Chile, it was on every arcade when I was growing up, it's fantastic. It's shocking to hear it's considered rare and forgotten.
Yeah, like not only in proper arcades, back in the 90's you could find it small markets, bakeries and even at bus terminals (at least in Santiago).
Not only Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, I also saw the punisher arcade and captain commando a lot. There was this amazing arcade hall called Juegos Rapran that had almost everything at the time, saddly nowadays it's just a clothes store.
I went to an arcade exhibition with my best friend. There was a Cadillacs and Dinosaurs cabinet. It's one of my favourite arcade games so I talked to my firend about it. He said he never played it, never heard about this game. The cabinets were in Free Game mode, so my duty was to teach him to play it and admire this legendary piece of electronic entertainment.
Alternate title: Matt Begs Capcom to Rerelease Their Licensed Beat 'Em Ups (Gone Wrong) (2023) (Colorized)
i think what Matt trying to say is the game is like Mad Max/ Fist of the North Star meets Juristic Park
2:36 HA! You hit the fat guy so hard his dinner came out. 😂
The Cadillacs and DInosaurs arcade game is pretty much the video game version of one of those favorite snacks from back in the 90's that people love so much back than but was sadly discontinued. And even though there are people who would love to see it make a comeback, the company that makes said thing flat out refuses to bring it back despite there being public demand for it -_- (I miss you Kit Kat Bites).
15:40 I've never seen the Blankas swallow a gun
i used to watch the cartoon on teletoon here in the great white north and your right, it was hard to pin down. I remember it being on around 430 for a bit.
the music for this game is so good.
also i believe all the episodes of the show are free on youtube, it's a pretty solid show with nice animation
Had this in a sketchy arcade near my house. Played a bunch back in the 90's.
This game was the absolute king of the arcades in Serbia, in the 90s
Not sure if you knew, but AvP is at least on the Capcom Home Arcade plug and play arcade stick. I literally bought the thing just for it lol. Sadly due to Cadillac name, it would cost way to much to release. At least Capcom doesn't see any profit in paying for the Cadillac name.
I heard Civvie's sewer-count groan SFX in my head before you mentioned the "sewer sex dungeon" being his bag.
Yes, together with Captain commando, the punisher and alien vs predator, this game is a huge hit in Brazil to this day. I remember that this game sounded a bit odd when I was a teen playing it on the arcades, probably it was a bootleg board with cheaper audio hardware (bootleggers did thats with sf2) since this game, despite not being cps2, it is cps dash, which has Qsound chip and some encryption.
Of all places, I first played this game in a bowling alley in Norway, and for a game I had never heard of, I was amazed how good it was. Definitely Capcom’s most underrated brawler. They really need to put out another beat ‘em up collection with C&D, The Punisher, Alien vs Predator, and the D&D games, but licensing would be a nightmare.
I believe this hasn't seen any kind of re-release in part due to the licensing of the Cadillac brand.
Call it Cars & Dinosaurs for all I care, I'd just love to see some kind of revival of this awesome brawler.
This is one of those games that is supposedely obscure like goof troop for the snes
Yet it always makes into a "top 10 obscure games"
And possibly "Top 10 Beat 'em Up games"
I played this so much in brazil every bar that had an arcade had this one with a version of sf2 and Tekken 3.
This has always been my favorite beat em up, even more than Final Fight or AvP. The amount of level and enemy variation is good, and the soundtrack is awesome.
I remember watching this on Saturday mornings, I think it was on either before or after _Conan The Adventurer._ Then I remember switching over to another channel for _Beakman's World_ which was a science themed educational show ala _Bill Nye,_ though it predated that.
This was actually an episode where I could not disagree with a single damn thing you said. it was perfect. All I would add is that Capcom needs to do more with their vintage catalogue in general....so many obscure gems
Man one of the best beat em ups of all time I love it
Mark Schultz (creator of Xenozoic Tales/Cadillacs & Dinosaurs) and Denis Kitchen Press are the most likely rights holders of the main IP, though I believe Capcom still owns some of the video game rights.
Also, I would like to suggest the Jaleco's Rushing Beat triology. The Japanese ones, not the weird USA versions.
Will check them out! What makes the Japanese versions different?
@@flophouseplays Well, the issue is that the USA versions are very inconsistent. The protagonist names change thru all games and by the final game, the weirdest choices were made. For example, most of the soundtrack was replaced with... nothing.
It's almost like the USA versions are 3 unrelated games.
You want a truly underrated Capcom brawler that deserves way more love? Look no future than their Dungeons & Dragons arcade hack & slash games.
In which Capcom did brought over to PS3, Xbox 360, PC (Steam), and Wii U in the past as part of Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara. Cadillacs and Dinosaurs on the other hand, has yet to come over to current gen consoles as of yet.....also Alien Vs. Predator needs more love as well : (.
I mean, that's not underrated? It has plenty of love. It got ports back in the day on the Saturn, then it got modern ports on consoles/PC that everyone can enjoy easily today. Punisher, C&D, and AVP did not.
I don't think Tower of Doom and Shadow Over Mystara are underrated. In fact, they even got ported to PS3.
@@flophouseplays Exactly. Capcom just doesn't really care all that much to bring Punisher, C&D, and AVP to modern consoles/PC...well that or they can't due to copyright-related reasons (looking at you Disney).
@Flophouse Plays The Saturn release was Japan only unfortunately. It did finally get a US release for PS3 but that's it. I wish they would re-release it for PS5 & Switch. Also wish that Capcom would FINALLY release both Punisher (fully uncut & uncensored unlike the Genesis port) and Alien vs Predator.
Thanks for the reply Matt, love your What Happened series✌️
This is probably the game that ate up the most of my change back when there was an arcade close to my home. They had The Punisher and the AvP game, too.
Funfact - It was extremely popular at Polish arcades
They probably can't re-release it due to the "Cadillac" name perhaps, since it is related to the car company. Capcom might have been able to get away with it back in the day, but nowadays I think Cadillac would need some kind involvement and a monetary kickback to make the game happen or to make it a part of a collection, I would think.
It needs to be a movie with Nicholas Cage and then maybe Cadillac would fund part of it.
Nah all they need is the owner of cadillacs and dinosaurs the comic permission and probly anybody that has a stake in the original games production/development they wouldnt need cadillacs permission unless they made a new vehicle in the game but intellectual property law changes year to year like tax law so it could be different.
@@Endocrom I prefer anime series or characters in "Cadillac and Dinosaurs" become playable in "Street Fighter" roster.
17:08 Well, Punisher and AvP are both Disney now, so if Capcom is to make a deal with them, I'd rather it's for MvC.
21:33 Maybe not as simple, but to they could try to balance out any licensing costs or just make it more appealing and stick the games their beat 'em up bundle with it.
32:32 Fallout? I know it was in Beneath the Planet of the Apes, but not sure about Fallout.
I like that throwing the dynamite damages them, like the physical impact of the sticks being hurled at them
I still have a near-mint condition of the first comic of Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. If only it was a first edition...
Totally agree that we need C&D, Punisher and AvP in a collection.
dunno in the USA, but this game is like a religion in Brazil, just plain mainstream in the arcades back in the day
I'm not sure if there's some deep lore about 90's capcom beat'em up games similar to what happened to SNK cabinets, but cadillacs and dinosaurs is easily one of the most beloved beat'em ups in south america.
On the other hand, I see that nobody uses the down-up special attack. it's pretty handy when you grab enemies.
Right! We called it the flash for some reason in South Africa but that attack with Mustapha (the gams is also called Mustapha😂) is the best way to go at it with this game at an arcade with limited coins.
It's insanely popular too in South Africa. Well arcades are pretty much dead nowadays but it was a staple back in the early to mid 2000s. Pretty much synonymous with arcades
Aaaawww you unlocked a nostalgic yet beautiful memory of mine. Thank you kindly sir!😢
This definitely looks better than that Cadillacs and Dinosaurs Sega CD game…
*Rock Hoppers* are nice, but there's just something about *Honkers* for weird non-scientific names for dinosaurs.
My fav are _Zeke._
Just played this the other week for the first time and it's a blast.
This is the kind of absurd premise that I adore.
The last boss should have transformed into a car.
Truckasaurus!
20 tons and four stories of car-crunching fire-breathing, prehistoric insanity!
SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!
Didn't realize Capcom made this also. Did anyone besides Capcom ever make non-licensed dinosaur games? Only dino-related game that fits the bill that I can think of is Turok. Is Exoprimal a prequel to this?
Turok is licensed, no? I still remember not being aware Turok was a boomer comic like Tex.
N64: I am Turok!
Mom: I know Turok!
Dang. You're right. That just furthers my point! lol
To me this is the perfect beat em up in terms of feedback when hitting enemies. It all comes together better in this game than even AVP. The only issue is the arcade super hard nature. I had the super luck to be friends with acquaintance of my family and he would let me play this for hours in his bar, off hours.
I love the loud echoey voices in this game. Makes it so over the top. "THAT'S GOOD!"
In this universe the world trade center survived the dinocalypse 😅
That final boss is less William Birkin and more Wilford Brimley at the end of 'The Thing'.
Proof that Capcom makes fun Dinosaurs games. Make more Dinosaurs games Capcom!
There is one coming out this summer.
@@flophouseplays oh yea, the one with the red head chick and its not Dino crisis. Looks fun at least.
One of the favorite in arcades and bars in Brazil
For a while there, anyone who was demoing a retro gaming device would always go to CaD.
Man i loved playing it at the arcades back in the day
Volkswagen and Trilobites
Chevrolet & Cenozoic better!
Lol, Matt the X-Men arcade game had a whole ass jungle level, Strider too!
I watched the cartoon for the first time a three years ago, it is ridiculously good.
Two great tastes that taste great together!
One of my favourite Beat 'em ups. It just oozes style backed up with fantastic gameplay. It still holds up 30 years later.
Linn could be a good guest character in DoA when they reboot DoA.
Never coming back because the Tecmo is all serious now making serious games. Sucks
This game is so popular in Brazil (I heard in all Latin America actually), it's like a religion. Pray to the flying kick gods! Seriously, every random arcade machine you see, if it is no KoF 2002 it's probably Cadillacs
Finding out what random games were popular in other parts of the world is one of my favorite things in Matt's videos. Every part of the world is unique!
Why did I buy a copy for the Dreamcast? It's a game, where you can punch dinosaurs. What more reason do I need?
Seriously ZEN can get the Star Wars license and Capcom can't get Caddys and Dinos?
You said Resident Evil, but a beat em up that ends up going to mutants near the end makes me think of Final Fight Streetwise.
I’ve never heard of this it looks sick. More Dino games where Dino’s aren’t just zombies or demons with a palette swap please!
OH HELL YEAH! I loved this game back in the day!
Edit: Watching you play, I remember how far I got back in the arcade. I only went to an arcade that had this once or twice, but my mom gave me a ton of quarters so I was able to get all the way to Morgue, the second form of the village boss. It's cool to see the stuff I never reached!
I remember playing Cadillacs and Dinosaurs in the arcades and at a Circle K or 7-11. I also watched the cartoon when it was in. Been re-watching the show recently in RUclips. Hannah is my favorite character on the game and cartoon, but I never did get to read the comic books.
This is why pocket emulators are selling in my generation. I can run this on my phone but to have it with a emulator front end interface and some nice controls set out is priceless to the 9 year old me
I know Capcom is never gonna bring back this or AVP or even Final Fight but would it kill them to make a 2D beat em up with new characters? That's at least as good as Streets of Rage 4? Yes? Okay, just checking.
AVP by Capcom still stands out in my 40 year old brain for being so much fun. We were especially lucky to get it considering what a fucking disaster most licensed games end up being. That and what a shitshow AvP ended up being as a franchise.
Ninja Baseball Bat Man is another great gem
Cadillacs? Dinosaurs? Dirty jungle floor Barbecue? Skeevy redneck cannon fodder baddies? Goddamn this game is hilariously Deep South goofy 90s action movie that it hurts!
I remember playing a 3 or 4 player version of this next to a Randy and Edward machine and that is definately a game you should play.
Fun fact: my dream car was a Cadillac thanks to this game.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but while this is based on the cartoon, the cartoon was based on Mark Schultz's Xenozoic Tales/Cadillacs and Dinosaurs comic. He is an amazing artist, and the comic was mind blowing back when I was 13.
One of my favorite beatem ups
This game may or may not have been in the selection of arcade games in the cigar shop that used to be in my neighborhood when I was a kid. If it was indeed in the back of that shop, it would've been between the time they had The Punisher and Alien vs Predator, as that spot got cycled out pretty often before the Street Fighter 2 spot solidified on Champion Edition before the shop eventually closed. That property is now pretty much a furniture store.
I discovered this a few years ago, when I got my arcade cab. Finally turned my partner onto it the other week. Now she just brings it up every few days, lol.
I remember pulling off the down, up+punch command several capcom beat'em ups had by mistake, Wouldnt learn how to pull it off like 6 years later when i was emulating Warriors of Fate in 1999 and pulled it off again and learned how to do it.
Dinosaurs weren't actually reptiles, in fact, the correct term nowadays is non-avian dinosaurs, which makes birds avian dinosaurs
It's still a very divisive topic, and no one's been able to prove anything, sadly. So reptiles they will remain!
According to "Top Hat Gaming" The Sega CD version was developed by Elon Musk. (I shit you not!)
Have you ever played Mutation Nation? That's another early 90's beat 'em up I have fond memories of, mostly from the crazy enemy and boss designs. The battle system is very basic, yet satisfying.
The comic is great. I wish Mark Schultz would continue it.
Heard he's quite the recluse nowadays.
Me too, man. The comic is extremely good.
@@PirataGalactico Great adventures in a exotic, mysterious, dangerous and beautyfull world. Many pages are a great work of art.
FUN FACT: Cadillacs and Dinosaurs 2 was the second worst thing that Elon Musk has ever had a hand in. No, for real.
Warriors of fate is a really good arcade beat em up, it also came out on ps1 in japan, made by capcom
0:21 & 11:42 - I dunno what's more shocking, that he was paranoid over a coin or that his worries were justified XD
0:42 - Man too bad Jurassic Park hadn't come out a year or two sooner for them to pull from XDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXD
9:16 - ruclips.net/video/FdBmdh-m2FI/видео.html
32:03 - Kind of looks like a Yugioh monster, or at least a really baller action figure.
33:09 - Oh that's funny, Capcom actually giving a shit about their legacy IPs....
I loved this game back then and still do! After i got to play it on my pc i loved it even more for the killer sound track. The Arcades loud background sound didn´t make me apreciate it the first time. Also i loved the cartoon. My favorite episode is the one where a group of thugs gets their hands on a gigantic tank and want jack's fuel to use it. Maybe after street fighter you can do this cartoon too?
My memory of this franchise is a comic book of Jack T. getting in a fight with a giant brain piloting a T. Rex skeleton and that's enough to be in favor of it.
This is one of the best beat em ups ever. Would love to see Matt play dynasty wars. It’s an unconventional beat em up, but I am quite fond of it.
This game is a national treasure in Latam. its OST is peak Capcom 90's
