It gets weirder in the manga hah. Hoover was a grown man and friends with Captain Commando's dad, Hoover was lethally wounded by a former colleague, Doctor Tea Water (the boss at in this video at 12:34 ). and before he died he transferred his mind into an artificial human baby. He then made all of the tech for the Commando team except for Sho/Ginzu's sword.

I remember being a small lad with a PSP and a copy of Capcom Classic Collections Remixed, playing Captain Commando and picking The Ninja. When I saw you can cut guys in half and they spilled a good quart of blood, it blew my little mind because it was the 1st time seeing something so graphic from an older game rather than in a modern game (circa 360 era at the time I played it).
The fact that this and Final Fight take place in the same city even is wild to me

I have to mention that I'm wearing a CAPTAIN COMMANDO t-shirt. I remember playing this awesome beat em' up for the first time on a arcade cabinet way back in 2006. And not to mention... CAPTAIN COMMANDO is one of my favourite CAPCOM games of all time.
Everyone knows Falcon is a try hard, Commando is the greatest of the semi-obscure video game mascot Cap'ns.
I'd never seen Captain Commando footage before this video, and I've gotta say, some of the character design choices are wild. Mummy is like 90s aesthetics distilled into concentrate. No idea what the hell they were thinking with the baby
With the amount of Beat'em Ups that have been happening as of late, it would be nice if Capcom got in with a new Captain Commando or Final Fight game heck maybe they can hire the people that did a new Streets of Rage game to do one of their beat'em ups
Another neat thing with Baby/Hoover it's that his "cut-in-half" animation is actually only the mech getting cut in half, and the baby trying to desperately pilot the broken mech
Has he done a video on Battle Circuit? I don't recall. But if anyone out there hasn't checked that one out it's great too. I always took it as a follow up to Captain Commando; same wild and wacky style but they crank the dial up even further.
Like one of the fighters is a non-humanoid carnivorous plant. It's sick.
I first played that one at Galloping Ghost about a month ago! I didn't get the chance to finish it, but it was a lot of fun.
Battle Circuit is so underrated.
Can confirm/will happily second Battle Circuit's greatness. It was basically the last hurrah for the genre in the '90s & never made it to console until the Capcom Beat-'Em-Up Bundle. But it remains easily the best of the golden age of beat-'em-ups & is almost certainly still top-5 all-time. It still has some of the absolute best *flow* (my shorthand for the combination of movement speed/character control/combo capacity & ease of chaining combos/overall moveset depth specifically in this kind of game, because "game feel" is too passive/generic & just sounds weird to me) ever in a beat-'em-up. Battle Circuit is virtual perfection that has only rarely been equaled or surpassed by a select few modern games. And that's just the gameplay. It also perfects the Saturday morning cartoon vibes of Captain Commando & Metamorphic Force, to the point I still want someone to make one for it all these years later, lmao.

When I was younger and first saw the Captain Commando game, I believed that was where the Capcom name came from. But about three years ago or so, I learned that it is actually from Capsule Computers. Which gives me supreme Dragon Ball vibes.
Ever since I saw the Metro City map from World Tour, I’ve been hoping for Capcom to make a Captain Commando action brawler using that Metro City map as a basis. Something short and sweet like Hifi Rush with over the top bosses like DMC.
Played this back in the arcades in the 90s. Remembering cutting the second boss (or later iteration) in half with the ninja and his lower half lay sitting against the wall with his torso staring up at it. Quite a proud child. XD
Loves the home version too, limitations aside.
Still my favorite Beat-Em-Up of all time. Chopping guys up with Ginzu is the best feeling ever.
It's odd Capcom didn't use this game for DLC costumes for SFV. The Basia sisters Carol and Brenda would be great looks for Laura, Scumocide for Gill, and Ginzu for Zeku or Ibuki.
the localized names weren't terrible and i kinda understood why the final boss had to be censored even back in the before internet times... but I Think i preferred the japanese names of the heroes.

Jenetty over Mack (though, Mack the Knife is a pretty cool name... but it's got serial killer vibes)
Dr. Hoover over Baby Head (but I don't think his actual name was changed and it's still "BABY" in both regions when you play as him, his backstory is pretty interesting)

I did play this game a lot on the ps1 version of the game. I was amazed to beat it multiple times without getting constant game overs. Really enjoy it and made me appreciate him a lot on MvC.
Somehow my local grocery store in nowhere Ok in the 90's had this cabinet in front. Glorious!
I remember seeing screen grabs of this in a GamePro as a kid and was so eager to play it and took me 2 uears to finally find an arcade cabinet and play it. Was so happy. Really wish Capcom would take more time to give us some AA goodies like another retro inspired Beat Em Up game of the Captain amd his Cammandos.

Nice to see somebody giving Captain Commando some love. This one is an old favorite of mine. It's from a time when game devs and their companies weren't afraid to make something totally nuts and throw it out there. I was thrilled when Captain Commando showed up in Project X Zone 2.
My local cinema had a Captain Commando machine in it for years while I was growing up. They got rid of it when I moved away but MAN I loved playing on that thing. So glad it was including in the beat'em up bundle.

Because Captain Commando takes place in 2026 in Metro City, Street Fighter is reaching that timeline, so some fans are asking Capcom to make the Captain be played by Luke in some local TV show or something.

Would’ve loved if Captain Commando got brought back as like an OVA or miniseries. Or a new game that went all in with a cel-shaded, Silver Age artstyle. The latter’s never gonna happen, but one can dream.

I remember renting this for a weekend and the rental store gave me an extra day for one reason or another. Anyway the SNES version was one of those games that put the rest of the levels in the harder difficulty. So I basically took all the time I had in one play session by myself to play through Captain Commando on the hardest difficulty. I beat it, I got to see Captain Commando announce himself to the world, and I haven't played the SNES version since. No problem accessing the arcade version, but I haven't bothered seeking out the SNES version since I had beaten that one rental.
Am I the only one who'd ❤ to see a brand new Captain Commando game from CAPCOM? With superheroes being so popular nowadays, how haven't they made a re-imagined Captain Commando game?
I could see a 3rd person action RPG where you can play as Cap & the rest of his crew.
Capcom has been doing amazing lately, it would only be natural for Captain Commando to be coming back now more than ever!!
I so miss this era of Capcom. They always came out with some out there different idea. I'd love to see captain commando come back. That Darkstalkers, Saturday night slam masters, ghosts and goblins. So much good stuff. That I especially feel translated to modern gaming, can lead to actual fun different nice variety. And not just the same hyper realistic super serious oriented triple a games of today.

People in future Metro City knew that Hagar was the savior of Metro City before. In their time of need, they cloned him, but couldn't wait until it was fully grown (Thus, the mech suit.). That's my head cannon for Baby.
The time of Marvin is over, it's Marbin time. I wish Capcom would do literally anything with Captain Commando aside from the rare cameo. I thought for sure when we got Strider 2014, there was hope Captain Commando would be the next to get some love, but nope.

I used to play this all the time in the arcades! I remember the buttons were a circle cut in half vertically. One side red, the other blue. Used to man the shit out of those buttons. As much as I liked Captain Commando (especially in Marvel vs Capcom), I felt he was the most boring. We had an alien mummy, a baby piloting a mech, and a ninja. I would pick Ginzu cuz he'd slice enemies in half. I sure wish Capcom would bundle all their beat-em-ups in one massive bundle

SO my first chance to play this was the PSP Capcom collection (the first one) and I would play it again later but it was great because some boards or I guess revisions typo'd Scumocide to Sucmocide and it's so good lol

I think they should reboot Captain Commando as a 3D character action game taking inspiration from sunset overdrive. Imagine exploring and brawling through metro city in 3D. There could also still be a variety of stages with set pieces and bosses. I’d like a visual aesthetic that’s somewhat similar to street fighter 6 mixed with Marvel vs Capcom; but using 3D models of course.

A lot of Capcom's early IPs were sick! even when I was a kid and I wouldn't really play anything other than fighting games, I remember looking for origin games for the Capcom characters from MvC and not being disappointed what so ever, I wish Capcom would bring back characters like CapCom and Jin Saotome more often and as playable characters rather than some costume or reference.

...Actually, Ginzu (the Ninja) is paired with Guy in Namco X Capcom. A tactical RPG game (Project X Zone is its sequel), and they were put together due to their similar in nature fighting styles, Guy goes to be considered part of the Commando Team.

I'm guessing some of the weird enemy names are the result of localizing Japanese transliterations of foreign names (Japanese has no "V" sound, so "Marvin" would become "Marbin"). Not sure about "Shtrom Jr." though, since I think he appears in Project X Zone with the same name (and I imagine they would have corrected it if it were a localization mistake).
I love this game. Love all the cartoonish characaters and move sets. It's a shame there isn't secqual or remake but I like that they appear in other games like Marvel v Capcom and even the OPENBOR hacks

Marbin is probably supposed to be Marvin. Japanese confuses B and V like the stereotypical L and R mix up. I know at least episode 2 of Hellsing Ultimate they pronounce Valentine as "Balentine"
