  • I made a band saw box using curly cherry for the front and back. The core is made of scrap plywood. I used walnut for the drawer pulls. Initially I made the patter using a pencil and paper. I have uploaded the pattern and made it available for download.
    You are free to download, use this pattern and sell your BOXES. I would like for this pattern to remain free and therefore I DO NOT give anyone permission to sell this pattern.
    Check out my website: moyperezwoodsh...

    I like what you did with the box by not putting the back on just to cut it off. Cut all the drawers then put the back on, Smart. Thank you the pattern.

    The box turned out really beautiful. A great job. In one point, you could make it easier for yourself. If you only saw out the outer shape at the very end, after the back wall has already been glued on. This way you have straight surfaces on the outside when gluing and forcing the saw cuts together where the clamps can be applied better and gluing on the back wall is also easier because it doesn't matter if it shifts by 1 or 2mm.

    That's a beautiful band saw box. I always thought you needed a 14 inch band saw to make the thick boxes like that. But your video proved me wrong great job.

    Moy, your bandsaw box was the first thing I made on a bandsaw. It was hard but solo satisfying. It has also become an heirloom that will stay with my little great niece her whole life. Thanks so much. I would attach a photo but I'm not sure how.

      +Ronna Keil Ronna, I would like to commend you for making this your first bandsaw project. It isn't the easiest box to make and you took it on and did an awesome job! It brings me joy to know that my video helped or inspired someone to create a beautiful piece that will be treasured. Thank you for affirming the reason why I make videos and share my work. You have made my day!

    Nice! You did a good job with the design and in making it. I did a video on my channel of a band saw box from a Dogwood trunk and kept the bark intact. I hate to cut Dogwoods since they are one of my favorite trees, but had to remove one to build my shop and kept the trunk for future projects of which this was one. Band saw boxes are fun. I even bought my band saw just to cut them with but it has proved to be one of my most useful saws!

    Nice work, I really like your pattern. I have a tip for you. If you use double sided tape you can cut out your back the same time as you cut out your pattern then take it off after you finish before you cut drawers out. I do this most often other than re sawing after I cut out the pattern or cutting it separately. Thanks for the great video.

      No problem, the black dust is called flocking. A layer of adhesive is applied and powdered suede fiber are blown in. It gives the inside of a box a great look and feel.

    Great bandsaw box Moy. I love the design. It didn't occur to me that you were going to glue the back on after cutting the drawers. Great idea. Did you use a flush trim bit on that back after that? Or all sanding?

    • @moyperezwoodshop1722
      @moyperezwoodshop1722  8 лет назад

      +Make Crazydays thanks Aaron ..yes I'm kind of forced to do it that way because of the capacity of my bandsaw. For smaller boxes I can cut the back off ..I just used the sander afterwards.. the trim router would have been a good way to go, I didn't think of that ..lol

    I'm a novice, what's the powder paint applied to the inside of the drawers after painting them? What does it do? awesome project, thank you for the video!

    • @moyperezwoodshop1722
      @moyperezwoodshop1722  7 лет назад +1

      +William Kapelanski thanks william. The process is called Flocking. You paint the tinted adhesive and then apply medium which is shredded cloth fibers. Since this type of box is usually used as a Jewelry or keepsake box, you want to line the drawers with something to protect the items. Flocking is great because it looks really clean and it's alot easier than trying to glue a piece of cloth.

    Why did you not just go back to your first entry point to release the box from the bandsaw, instead of cutting to box in two?

    • @moyperezwoodshop1722
      @moyperezwoodshop1722  7 лет назад

      +Cliff Carlo I could have done that also, but that would also leave that cut mark where I messed up. It would be pretty tough to cover that up and i didn't want to change the shape of the drawer. Cutting all the way through and spitting the box was a good option. The cut less noticable after the glue up.

      +Gregory Beckman hey gregory, I have a 9in bandsaw and it takes a 62 in blade. The blade I use for bandsaw boxes is a 3/16 by 10 tpi

      +Moy perez woodshop thanks I only have a small bandsaw. I thought the way that you did the back was genious! now I know how to make bigger bandsaw boxes.

    instead of cutting the box in two could you not have backed the blade out of the box through the existing cuts, nice box

      +george matthews thanks George! I normally would have done what you suggested. in this case I had deviated so far from the line, it would have changed the shape of the drawer drastically if I would have stayed in the cut.
