Cinematic Mountain Footage: An Attempt ! Buachaille Etive Beag

- I decided to play about and try to get a wee cinematic reel going in this video . Taking my son up a familiar mountain as the snow lay on the tops and the clouds were above the summits, seemed like a bit of fun on a grand mountain in Glen Coe.....Buachaille Etive Beag

Beautiful video, Murray. The drone footage brought this magical area to life. The amount of effort you put into making these videos is appreciated.
🙏
And thanks for all the extra steps you have to take when making your solo videos!
Thank you again Murray; you are fast becoming a national treasure with your wonderful films of this most special of countries.

Absolutely awe inspiring Murray. You really are the best of the best when it comes to showing Scotlands mountains in their full splendour. Long may continue to do this.
Thank you David , not sure about that but I try my best to capture the mountains as I see them when I am out. Sometimes it works :) (sometimes it doesn't!!lol)

As a seasoned Munro bagger I appreciate the extra time, care and serious effort you put in to bring Scotlands Mountains to life … fantastic
Thanks Murry - what fantastic footage and adventures. The cinematic part with drone footage was especially beautiful. It brough back great memories from my trip up there in October. Stub Dubh was my first Munro, having only started serious hillwalking earlier this year with just one Corbett under my belt. You are quite right when you say the mountains are calling you back for more adventures. I know I'm hooked and that at quite a mature age - I'm 67.
Wonderful video Murray, and great to see you back out with Lewis. It looks like he’s really getting in to his hill walking, striding off in to the distance leaving you to play catch up. Thanks as ever for sharing your adventure, all the best, Dave 😀🥾⛰🏴
Thank David 🙏 it is nice to have him out with me for sure :) hope he gets a lifetime of enjoyment from the hills and mountains :)
Thanks
Murray
Simply perfect. I'm lost for words. Thank you 😊😊😊
Ay up me duck.
Some stunning shots me owd, what an area of beauty.
Ay a good'un 👍🙂
Superb! Sublime! Glorious! Well done you two for making the most of the opportunity. Beautifully captured too!
If this was "an attempt", I can't wait to see what you'll be coming up with next! Superb like virtually all of your videos, but this is outstanding 👌You definitely have a talent for video making and commentaries. Thank you!
🙏
That was a brilliant video. Enjoyed the whole thing but the cinematic section was spectacular - great filming and great editing too 😁.
Thank you 🙏
Thank you Murray, that was a real tonic. Cheers.
Thank you ever so much, Murray, for these amazing views, fantastic video! Especially the clear and clean air - wonderful!
Love this Murray. Funny, informative and very moving. Poignant moment indeed atop the summit in special company and rare and blessed conditions. Thanks so much.

Breathtaking views and images. How wonderful to share that with your son. Thank you.

Great video. When I first climbed the Buachaille Etive Beag it only had one Munro. I climbed it from Glen Etive and it was a right steep pull. Great to see you out with your lad, he will remember these trips forever. Thanks for sharing.
thanks Grahem , I have always fancied doing some of the Glen Coe Munros from the south , but as you say a steep pull but would be nice and quiet on that side of the mountains . Maybe next year this will be an objective :)

Thanks Julie, very much appreciated. It was such a nice day and infact as I am writing this, it is the first weekend in a while where the weather has been not so good so staying in and not headed to the mountains this weekend - will give me time to catch up with the piles of editing I have to do for future videos !!lol

Congratulations to Lewis on bagging Stob Dubh. A beautiful film, Murray. Proper Christmas look IMO. We always swelter in 40C or more in rural W.A. Thanks for the dream.

Thanks Kev 🙏
Both me and my partner always get a great deal of pleasure from your videos and walks. No matter what the season the landscapes you take in are always truly breathtaking. As a proud Yorkshire man, i often wonder if you have ever crossed the border, and taken in walks in the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Even though our Mountains are much smaller than yours up in the Highlands of Scotland, they are still two very special national parks that truly offer so much.
Hi Ian, I think my heart is in the highlands as I always end up travelling north (even the southern uplands and areas south in Scotland don't get visited as much as they should.
I have briefly visited the Lakes and would love to come down but would have to explore the quieter regions for sure. Snowdonia is another area I would love to visit :) maybe one day

Spectacular stuff fella, those views down Loch Etive are stunning, I can only imagine how much more stunning they must be in person.
Also kudos for calling Lorne sausage by it's proper name. Nane of that square nonsense.
Absolute heaven absolutely fantastic, I'm a new subscriber and I'm immensely impressed at your channel, I too love the great outdoors and empty places and vast open spaces, I'm a Yorkshire lad from Wakefield (wakey the merry city) I love the wilderness too, totally glued to your channel, bloody brilliant 👏

Thanks for another cracking video Murray, and for sharing some of your methods. As for your cinematic shots, I maintain that you're on par with the best of the BBC natural history videography with your reveals and panning shots. I know how hard it is to show the scale of the landscape in 2 dimensions, but you do it every time.
thank you - not sure I would get a job with the BBC just yet!!lol really appreciate your nice comment , I try my best to capture it as I see it when there but it never comes out as good as seeing it with your own eyes (if that makes sense)

Hi Murray another amazing video, the effort and preparation you put in making and editing these videos is unbelievable and to do all this and have your son with you, Christmas has come early, really appreciate your weekly videos and look forward to them with excitement the drone footage is so professional, what an area Glencoe is just keeps on giving.
Thanks again Murray.
Thanks Derek, very much appreciated. This was indeed a special day to spend with my son for sure. However in terms of Christmas coming early , that happened on next weeks video (I am sure you will see what I mean if you manage to watch the next one ;)lol)

Wonderful stuff again Murray. I love the "Little Buckle", from a first full winter ascent back in the late 1980s to a wonderful summer walk with my daughter in 2020 that turned out to be my most recent big Scottish hill walk, and one for the memory banks for sure :)
I think all your videos are cinematic by the way :)

Again like I've said in previous videos, this resonated with me, I done Buachaille Etive Beag last year but in the famous weather of heavy rain, sleet and high winds with snow lying about 700m. Sadly no views as usual so it was nice to see you managed to capture Beinn a Bleithir and the Aonach Eagach ridge this time. Really nice to see your son really taking to the hills as well. Looking forward to your next video Murray and thanks again for sharing this really appreciate it.

Personally I like you blabbering on, it's what makes the videos real.
The cinematic footage is fantastic, your eye for a shot is great. The voiceover adds a story.
Great video as ever, your effort for our enjoyment is much appreciated.
Thanks Alasdair - I suppose its different stroke for different folks, I am the same I tend to be more engaged in videos I watch where there is some narrative however I do occasionally enjoy watching footage with no voice over too - depends on my mood I think - hope you enjoyed the video

The babbling reveals your passion for the Scottish mountains and the practicalities of tackling them… totally relatable never a problem
Amazing footage and great voiceover. My dad is my hiking companion and this brought back amazing memories spent with him on the hills!
Thank you Murray for reminding me of a route I led for my walking club earlier this year, i.e. in May. This was part of a week’s stay at Appin near Oban. Later in the week I also led a party up the Pap of Glencoe (albeit a less ambitious route). Fond memories. Thanks again Murray for uploading a fantastic video featuring such wonderful, cinematic views. Warmest regards, Chris Harris 🤗

@@ScotlandsMountains Thank you for taking the trouble to reply and so promptly. After the week in May last year near Oban, I moved on to spend a week in Torridon with friends. During this second week one of the friends and I climbed Sgorr Ruadh from Achnashellach plus Beinn Alligin (at the second attempt, involving the whole ridge including the Horns of Alligin). In 2024 we plan a fortnight in May based in Ullapool then a fortnight in September based in Spean Bridge with the emphasis on Munro bagging. I hope you find it interesting hearing about my plans. Thanks again Murray. You are without a doubt my favourite RUclipsr. Kindest regards, Chris Harris 🤗
As an amateur photographer, That was so professional, thank you. It cheered me up on a dull day in the flatlands of Lincolnshire. I feel a bit sad though, as my fitness these days struggles to get me up Catbells and Roseberry topping. Motto...do these epic walks while you still can.
Thanks Malc, absolutely agree, had a few injuries in last few years that had me thinking these sentiments exactly. Now I take my physios advice and force myself to do their recommended routines as much as possible - so far so good, but I know at some point the knee will go - just hoping its a long way off !!

Top stuff as always Murray, and also really helpful. We're staying just the other side of the Corran ferry for a week next month and I've been after as easyish Munro in the area, so this one might be ideal for us. Also totally agree about it being hard to film in the cold. I'm still fairly new to this filming malarkey but a few weeks ago we did a sunrise hike and it was -5 on the tops plus a wind chill, trying to fly a drone in that temp is not fun. Also having a wife and dog that are getting cold does not help haha!
That Gerry is a tough critic! Your narration adds to the atmosphere, no matter what. Thanks for this and for tolerating frozen fingers. The equipment probably does not mind the cold as much as humans do. I recall when they were going to the moon and NASA was all concerned about how the bits of electric stuff, such as they were back in the Dark Ages of the late 1960s, would fare, and it did great.
Thanks Yvonne - I'll make sure I pass this onto Gerry !lol ;)

You coaxed me up there on Sunday Murray so thought l'd revisit this great episode to thank you for the inspiration culminating in a bluebird day with snow clad ridge and one of the finest winter climbs for a while. Cheers mate.
11:25 through i absolutely love the footage and whats being said. Brilliant video Murray. Me and David were just up a week ago for my first trial hike, its a shame i wasn't ready yet to do the 2 of them, ive been up there before on munro round 1. It truly was special. I would like to go back and summit camp or bivvi that 2nd summit! This video was lovely to watch and i got those views we missed last week as we only managed the one with my achilis. all went well too. ill send you the video to see when its out. Absolutely loved the cinematic, brilliant watch as usual thank you for that :) Truely looks different in that lighting, you had good lighting to capture the dramaticness. It was too bright on our day, we had an inversion over rannoch moor but it wasnt as good for footage,
Hope you get back - loads of great camping up there - done a few summit camps on Raineach over the years but never camped on Stob Dubh though :) I can thoroughly recommend a camp on Raineach tho :) wishing you a speedy recovery 🙏
