I enjoy this channel for that reason. It’s fun to imagine someone doing this 3-4-5 hundreds years ago, and who might watch this years down the road from now. Plus, David is a joyful person and is surrounded by fun and interesting people as well.
The way David assures Ayano-san that she’ll get overtime and she casually tells him she’ll leave early and they both move on shows some great boss-employee relationship. Wish my boss was this chill
Dave is a special man, for sure. He is a rare type, and deserves the dedication and respect that every member of his staff always continues to display. Mokuhankan is at its own level!
I love how even after 30+ plus years, you can just see and feel Dave's love for the entire process of his craft. From papermaking to carving to printing and everything in-between. Thanks for documenting this and sharing it Dave.
Wow! I can't believe I was recommended your channel out of the blue. I'm an English teacher in Japan and I remember seeing you in a video in our textbook. Thank you for sharing these videos with us 😊
Another thing that I always love about Dave is he always has that excitement of a kid on Christmas morning whenever he sees or participates in activities related to his passion for Woodblock printing. He really gives me the feeling that there will always be things to be admired and appreciated regardless of our age and the era we live in.
I loved watching this process. I do wish the captions were on all of the time. It was fascinating to hear when Ayano-San was speaking how her accent almost seemed to change. I haven’t been around the channel in a while so I don’t remember everyone’s backgrounds very well.
Blessed start to the new year, streams have been great but these arranged ones hit different. Hope all staff are safe and well with the current events!
Fantastic! Seeing several people attempting the same process with wildly differing results was fascinating - over an hour disappeared in a flash, it seemed!
Glad to see you must have power and internet and a safe place to post from. It seems the earthquake was not as bad in the Tokyo area. Stay safe and have a Happy New Year.
i watch david’s videos as asmr, because he is such a friendly, comforting presence. in using them to sleep, i’ve become so interested in japanese history and wood block print art, i’m so glad he makes these videos so more people can discover this beautiful culture
You guys should do a collaborative experience. Make your own paper and a printparty with that paper a bit later (a day? a few days? how long does that stuff take to dry)
This might be a scheduled video that was set up to publish before recent events. Just fyi if anyone is concerned about David and the team. Still waiting for updates myself.
The earthquake was right over on the other side of the country; we _felt_ it here in Tokyo - the Mokuhankan building shook for a minute or so - but there are no serious effects at this long distance. Thanks for your concern ...
@@seseragistudio Oh, that's good to hear. After posting that I did check the location and see it was was on the other side of the country but I appreciate the piece of mind. 😄
The content of this entire channel is preservation of cultural treasures. Future anthropologists will be deeply indebted to you all.
I am not sure the content will be preserved over centuries and millenniums.

OMG SO glad to hear from you....was worried about the earthquakes etc. So sorry for the loss of lives in Japan. Be safe.
So satisfying to see this! Seeing the process we see how it's a hard and beautiful work.

I Hope you and the rest of shop are doing very well
Amazing video, I'll be in Japan for the first time this weekend, I'll come say hi for sure :)

Yo this is wonderful! I had no idea this kind of video was being made, love to see these processes in action.
Fantastic! Seeing several people attempting the same process with wildly differing results was fascinating - over an hour disappeared in a flash, it seemed!
I love it. Learned a great deal. Thank you.
Didn’t expect to watch this today, thank you so much!
Papermaking has always been interesting to me!
Oh, awesome! I have my own paper making equipment! Now, I’ll learn from your videos!
Why? Genuinely curious.
Glad to see you must have power and internet and a safe place to post from. It seems the earthquake was not as bad in the Tokyo area. Stay safe and have a Happy New Year.

Lovely to watch! Glad you all had fun :3
Always a good day when Dave Bull uploads
What a ton of fun!!
Really like when Dave speaks Japanese
Happy New Years!

They dont do printparty's anymore. They dont have the manpower and space to do those.
This is a wonderful video!
Ayano-san is the best!
This is so cool.
Awesome recording, thank you. Not sure why but I feel like Dave did the subtitling haha, good job though!
I did indeed do the subtitling ... chewing through it all day yesterday ...
Ah, it's the ellipses that give you away I think ... @@seseragistudio
Good catch ... a terrible addiction that I have been struggling with for years. (period)
I was trying to use this as sleep aid, but this is too interesting. There's magic here.
Hope all is safe where you are, David.
Happy New year!
Glad to see you're all okay, was worried with all the earthquakes and tsunamis that suddenly hit Japan. Be safe yall!
At this point you just wonder if Godzilla is EVER going to leave those poor people alone??
I hope you guys are okay! I heard about the earthquake and possible tsunami
22:35 deflocculant that keeps everything in suspension?
Shall be an interesting watch :)
I wonder if this is where www.youtube.com/@BaumgartnerRestoration gets his paper from. :)
Baumgartner has rolls of washi so it's machine made, possibly Japanese, although more likely Chinese or Thai made.
@@mokuhanga1 Thank you for the explanation! :)
Were you affected by the earthquake or tsunami.
AMAZING VID! Who's the girl? She's fun and photogenic. She should have her own channel!
