No you're not being dramatic - you're correct. She has so much ability which is continually growing. She's incredible for any age singer but at 14/15 she is just phenomenal. For me, this song is way past emotional and as AJ said "I hope you love this because it came from the heart". She loved her Grandfather so much and obviously it hit her hard when he passed. He will be smiling as he looks down on you Angelina, I can guarantee that! xxx

So glad you did this one Maunalee! I was hoping you would get to it soon. It is a beautiful song written by Angelina about her grandpa, and the artwork by Angelina's grandmother is just perfect for it. I think it was a great debut single for her! Here is what Angelina said about it.....
"This song is dedicated to anyone who has lost a loved one. I wrote this song thinking about all the great memories I had with my grandpa and how much it hurts to lose someone. I hope this song finds a place in your heart, as it comes straight from mine."

The song completely reflects Angelina's talent, skill and feeling for music. I have the feeling that Stargate gave Angelina the opportunity to work freely according to her own style. I'm giving her your 9.9 + my additional .1 = 10.0 for her!!! Angelina has a way of leaving her mark on your emotions when ever she sings. Happy, sad, high, or low, she makes you feel it. What she makes you feel doesn't end with the last note either. It takes a while to get over it and get yourself back to whatever normal is. Hi Maunalee, I 90% agree with you but I found this from americansongwriter.com who interview Angelina, ''Jordan felt that even while recording the song. “When I was in the booth, while I was singing, my tears were running,” she says. “To be honest, it was like a feeling of relief that all my feelings were written down and I felt relieved. “Million Miles” means a lot to me because it is relevant to these difficult times. I definitely want to share my love to everyone, and I hope that people can connect with it and relate to the story behind the song.” This might explain why some of her word sounds muffled to you, me as a 56 year old man with a few tears when hearing her words, I understood everything❤❤❤👍👍

Thank you for another great Angelina reaction! On November 6th, I cried all day for three reasons. First, because of the excitement over the release of Angelina's first single from Republic Records. Second, because of the sheer beauty of "Million Miles" - the music, the lyrics, the production quality and, most importantly, Angelina's astounding voice! Third, I went back to reminisce with some of my favorite reactors over the years (including you). Although I had viewed these reactions many, many times in the past, watching them now in light of this important milestone in Angelina's life and career was very emotional for me. I felt like a father paging through the family photo album after having just given his daughter away at her wedding. The poignant memories about Angelina's youth are now colored with the knowledge that she has grown up and taken a huge step in her life. While we will follow and support her in whatever the future holds, she will always be the little girl we have come to know and love. Could someone please pass the tissues??

And I climb the stairs...."I stand between the heavens and the earth I stand between two hearts.” I believe she experiences a similar feeling when she thinks about her grandpa, and hence the ladder to the heavens in the lyric video. My grandson is only 6000 miles away, but it feels like one million miles- I will only be able to hold his hand again when covid is defeated ....
For Angelina the last image in the animation depicts her with the girl in her book (she gave her shoes to). Angelina never got to know her name, so is disconnected- but reminds of all of that special bond, each time she performs barefoot......

Not a challenge to your 99.9, or your opinion Maunalee, but just my "opinion" on Angelia's English. To my ear, Angelina sounds 100% American when she speaks. When she sings, as countless vocal coaches and musicians have pointed out, Angelina is a master of bending vowels for melismatic effect and vocal enhancement. It's an absolute hallmark of her singing style. If we judged vocalists based on singing diction, there'd be no Dylan, no Springsteen, no Cocker, and no so many others that had a unique style of presentation without perfect diction. As I said, just MHO.

Manaulee, I would NOT take notes on the first time listening, because you will be thinking more about what to say rather than taking in the song and letting it hit your feelings... let your instinct capture the reaction, not your pencil. Then give it a second run where you try to express that instinctual reaction from the first time. And if you get a different reaction the second time then go at it a third time... this is one of those songs that embeds itself deeper in the soul the more you hear it. Remember that art is in the eyes (or ears as it were) of the beholder. It is more about what it makes you feel than what makes academic sense... impressionism would never meet the grade of the painting purists that want to capture what is seen to perfection... cubism does not adhere to natural forms, but to the fuzziness of how the images make you feel. In this case, you are right, Angelina does not always pronounce words perfectly, but we get the message, we get the intent and the message is perfectly clear... and despite the distortion in her pronunciation, the feeling of love and pain is absolutely clear... If I wanted a paint by the numbers, I would go to the dollar store... but I want art, so I go to the Louvre. What is great about the Mona Lisa is not that it was or was not a perfect portrait, because in that sense, it was not better than other portraits of the time... it was the way Da Vinci captured the that smile of naughtiness in her smile... you see the portrait and you can see in her eyes she is somewhere else thinking of something that makes her smile as if she got away with something. THAT is what made it the masterpiece it is. I am not sure who is maturing more, Angelina or our appreciation for good quality and meaningful music... Like you said, the music industry has embraced too much hate, sex and violence and Angelina, along with some of the upcoming artists like Aurora, like Dimash and yes Adele, are bringing us back to the music that brings joy and peace to the soul. Please go back to "reacting" to the song, not "Auditing" the song. This is not paint by the numbers where we measure greatness by how well the painter stayed within the lines. I always love listening to your "REACTIONS" and was waiting on pins and needles for it. Was a little taken aback that you introduced a pencil and paper to the equation. Feel the song, that is what evokes the reaction. Is it melodious, is it pleasant to the ear, does it evoke a smile or a tear. That is what art is about. I love ballroom dancing, but there is nothing like watching couple dancing free style base don how the music moves them. And even when they stumble, it is an opportunity to laugh and and reconnect to continue the dance because what is important is not the music, the audience or the steps, it is the flirting and connection, the feeling of how each other reacts to their partner... and when souls are aligned, the dance is beautiful.

Maunalee, you never felt this! I am so disappointed with you. Throw away the pencil and paper and just listen, feel and understand. You used to do this in the past but I suspect that you are trending toward commercialism. Let your emotions speak for you, not careful controlled analysis.
As this is a reply to someone else's comment I am also going to post this on it's own and hope that you will see it. Please consider it carefully.

Nice reaction and feedback Maunalee! Yes, this song was dedicated to her grandpa and also to those who have lost a loved one. I lost my mom in January and hearing this song brings back a lot of memories of her. When she sings, she takes me away from the real world for a few minutes and I just focus on her singing which is always mesmerizing to me. I'm going to keep on listening to this until she comes out with more because Angelina fans like myself and you are always wanting more from her. Keep up the great work!

Maunalee, the way Angelina’s singing affects me is like she takes my face in her hands, looks into my eyes and pierces my mind and soul with her breath taking voice. When I listen to her sing I am completely immersed in the song and her interpretation of the lyrics. I must admit that every time I have heard Angelina sing a cover I actually paid attention and focused on the lyrics, many times for the first time, instead of just listening to the melody.
I do not remember being so completely captivated and swept up by a singer than I am with Angelina. She pulls us in and engulfs us with her stupendous talent, her voice, her pureness, her innocence, her personality and her humanity. She is a breath of fresh air coming from the music industry that has long been devoid of this immense level of exceptional and unique talent. Angelina came along at the right time. The world needs her in it.

Maunalee I'm happy that you heard the new song Angelina's, I loved your wonderful reaction, thank you very much.
It's definitely a good start with Republic, a sweet and intense song dedicated to the grandfather and the people who have lost someone, but also full of hope, with beautiful lyrics, especially for a 14 year old girl, and her voice ... always more fascinating and so from "Angelina".
Angelina and grandmother Mery, a beautiful story of an inspired family. I love her, she is simply amazing ❤️ ❤️
You can hear it a million times, I'm on the right track to do it, and I get excited every time ... and I love Grandma's drawings, they're so "right" for Angelina's voice and story. Angelina's slow advance on the steps towards the moon is of infinite sweetness, it's a beautiful portrait of her 🤗
The lyrics are hers, they are so "made in Angelina", they contain her sensitivity, her family, her affections and her love and make your soul cry thinking of someone you have lost.

Dear Maunalee, when she stood in the booth of the studio, recording, she was crying her eyes out (so she said) even when singing, because it helped her to lessen the sorrow. In the new video live version, she had come to grips with that. Not so very few "reactors" said that this song helped them to come to grips with their own loss. That was one of the goals of AJ when releasing it. Greeting from Germany. stay save and healthy!!!

Angelina speaks English quite well. When she sings she speaks emotion ..better than almost anyone. This is a 10 for many reasons but an unappreciated reason is her willingness to, although on a new label and in a new stage of her life and career, put out an unbelievable anthem (not only to her grandfather) but to the world as we all weather this time we are in. A big serious song from a serious artist. I don't think AJ does fluff. In addition, who in her "shoes" would be confident enough to release like this without including herself in the video? In our visual world, Angelina boldly breaks all rules again.
I appreciate your reactions, your insight and firmness (not stubbornness) in stating your views. I think, though, you might have missed this one just slightly (by about 0.1) :-)

This line is so poignant, especially in this day and age and especially this song.
While I do respect that you’re honest, I don’t see how this could be anything but a 10 despite the not understanding a word or two. The only reason I say that is because I misunderstood the lyric “Like an empty bubble to be thrown.”
    I thought she said bottle.
Regardless, I really enjoyed your reaction and hope you have a stellar day.

This time I cannot for the simple reason for such a young girl with such great phenomenal talent to talk about her accent I think it’s part of her character and I would also add that there I are many good singers where we can’t always catch every word and sometimes we have to listen to it a few times. You gave her a 10 for the singing and a 9.9 suggesting that the lyrics were a 9.8. The lyrics are the REASON for the song. I think the 9.8 is the score for our ability to understand the lyrics.

Interested in you lyrics clarity comment. I am sure it is intentional. She can be absolutely crystal clear when she wants to be. Listen closely to the first "I know that I'm never alone" in each chorus. Is it me, or does she actually sing "I know that I'll never atone" and gradually morph the word sounds in each repeat to a very much clearer "never alone" at the last? Makes some wierd sense along with the "I'll never regret what I do" line in the grandfather passing - Always On My Mind context, where she was clearly expressing some guilt. Oh, and by the way, Paul is dead :-)

A musical prodigy, Angelina Jordan sang for the first time at barely a year old, and she never stopped.
The Los Angeles-based 14-year-old singer and songwriter amplified her voice around the globe, racking up over half-a-billion RUclips views, just shy of 2 billion Facebook views, and praise from Time, CNN, The BBC, and People. Along the way, she performed for world leaders at some of the most influential events in Europe, appeared on European and North American television, and quietly enraptured a growing fan base.
In 2020, she brings a soulful signature sound to life with her Republic Records debut.
The breadth of Angelina’s soulful and deep alto vocal delivery showcases a rare class of musical aptitude that you would attribute to an old soul, and legendary talent, well beyond her years.
“I feel like I’ve lived many years more than my age. I feel like music found me. I want people to get connected to my music and my lyrics and to share something special with the love I have for music."
Angelina went from belting out Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” to immersing herself in jazz at five-years-old. She discovered Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and Louis Armstrong by combing jazz playlists across RUclips. At eight-years-old, she won Norway’s Got Talent with a viral rendition of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday.” Labels and producers feverishly sought her out, but she already possessed a clear picture of what her path would be.
Taking her time, she opted to carefully hone her voice through countless hours of practice, gigs, and writing.
“It was really great, but I knew I wanted something bigger,” she admits. “I didn’t want to jump into it until I felt I was ready.”
She got “ready” through a series of historic performances. She graced the stage of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony and delivered an emotionally charged rendition of “What A Wonderful World.” A year later, she wowed an audience at Brilliant Minds in Stockholm. Touching down in Seoul during 2017, she joined a powerhouse bill alongside PSY and Norah Jones in front of 40,000 people at Muse In City Festival. Quincy Jones personally invited her to perform at his 85th birthday at London’s O2 Arena.
Every time she took the stage, she was notably barefoot, which remains one of her signatures thus far.
“A long time ago, I was traveling with my family, and I met a young homeless girl with no shoes,” she recalls. “She was barefoot, so I gave her my shoes because I really wanted to help her. Today, I sing barefoot as a reminder of all the kids in the world who need help and support.”
Along the way, GRAMMY® Award-winning production duo Stargate [Beyoncé, Sam Smith, Rihanna] reached out, and they initiated a fervent creative partnership together. She continued to write lyrics, compose on piano and guitar, and record. Catching the attention of Republic Records, she inked a deal with the label in 2020.
Now, she formally introduces herself on the single “Million Miles.” With lyrics exclusively penned by Angelina, her robust delivery sails over sparse piano on the verses as the track builds towards a sweeping refrain, “We’re a million miles apart. It’s pulling my heart."
“Million Miles” is about losing someone you really love,” she explains. “This song is very personal to me, because I had never felt the feeling of losing someone before I wrote this.”
With more music on the horizon, there is more of Angelina’s captivating voice and songwriting in store.
“I hope you feel connected to the music and the stories behind the songs,” she leaves off. “Love is the most powerful thing though. That’s the message.”

First, I really appreciate your reaction. While I have challenged your criteria in the past, it is your reaction, not mine. Comments: (1) I don't think her choice of inflections in the lyrics has anything to do with her language skills. I think they are entirely due to her artistic license. There is meaning in how she phrases the lyrics. Not uncommon in her "native" jazz. (2) I would also not score this release a 10, because I think better is yet to come. But this was an awesome first release. Stay safe. Thanks.
