º||||||º Jeep No Remote Start with Hood Ajar

  • When the hood is open, you cannot start the Jeep remotely. That is a security feature. Imagine your wife remote starts the vehicle while you are out there changing the oil, of god forbid you have your hand and fingers in the belt when that happens.
A few month ago, i had to replace the radiator, and while i was working on that radiator, i noticed the rust on the hood latch, and i thought it would be a good idea to spray some WD40 on it. Turns out, that that is possibly a bad idea, because there is a 1kΩ resistor in the hood latch switch. As we can see towards the end of this video, that resistor is corroded, and its resistance does not fit anywhere in the 0.5% tolerance of the 1kΩ resistor.
That means i needed to order a new hood latch assembly for the car, because the switch is installed in a way, that it is impossible to remove from the assembly without breaking it.
I paid about $36 on Amazon at the time of the making of this video. I also see $65 Mopar parts for sale. Let's hope the one i picked lasts long. Maybe i shouldn't open the hood so often.
Now i want you to enjoy this 5K video of me fixing my car. I know many of you enjoy this. Feel free to ask questions in the comments, and consider subscribing to the channel. If you drive a Jeep, you'll need it.

My garage want's $200 to replace this latch. I was going to just a resistor into the plug and bypass the switch but since Amazon has this part (thanks for linking it in the comments) for $46, and you showed how easy it is in this video, I'll just replace it myself. Thanks! You may have save me some fingers lol.

In the case that you have a good warranty, be careful of the company saying its not covered . I have a full bumper to bumper( 2014 ram 2500) and the warranty says that door LATCHES are not covered. The repair facility failed to get the repair paid for by the warranty co. 1st try. I had to call the warranty co. myself and explain that the LATCH was not broken, but the electrical switch attached to the LATCH was malfunctioning. It could get tricky because you can't buy the switch alone. You have to buy the whole LATCH assembly. I called the repair facility back , gave them the claim #, and told them they need to call the warranty co. back and word it properly. It was a new young person handling the repair & claim. She didn't have the tactical experience of dealing with warranty companies.

Thank you for the tutorial. I was on the fence whether or not this would fix it but it started first try, the hood release works, and the hood latches. I don't plan on keeping this jeep much longer but i went with an oem part so I'd hopefully have to only fix it once

If your new hood latch is working, then you have a problem with your wires, or with the connector. Do you get the Hood ajar message in your instrument cluster?

Just splice a 1k resistor in place of the switch and save yourself $46 for a whole new assembley.
