Holy hell, you have no idea how long I've been looking for this. Had an early 90s van with the 6.9l non turbo, took the dog house off one day just to listen. That was some sweet music. Just a diesel working hard, although slightly deafening.
Haha well I'm glad you're enjoying it like that! Really, what kinda diesel guys would we all be if we hadn't tried that, it's a must xD And well yeah that sure gets too much over time, for them ears at least, not like you'd ever get enough of that sound tho!
WOW, phantastic views, please do more of them, please if possible longest lasting possible from underneath drivers cab floor, to open view on pedal segments activated by drivers feet in the cabin and steering linkage....would be awesome to save pics of this mechanical technology threatened by new electric drives....
Yeah, the 7.3 PowerStroke is rather knocky at idle - although you might still wanna pay attention to the sound of the thing idling every now and then. When there's what sounds like a knock from one single cylinder, like a bad rod bearing or something, it's most likely cylinder number 8 and it's usually either fuel pressure or cam sensor related. When it sounds rather irregular at idle in general, like.. when the sound changes a little some from second to second, it might indicate something being wrong with your hight pressure oil system, maybe the ICP or IPR not working correctly, Mine was doing that when the IPR wiring harness was going bad and shorting out, leaving the IPR unable to work properly. Was sounding goofy at idle and lacking torque and power a little some, no codes though however, till it died completely. If it has a sharp constant knock to it at itle, it is most likely just low fuel pressure at idle. It tends to put injection timing a little sharper when starving of fuel and cause it to knock like an old Actros.
