As a former cosmetology instructor the one thing I always stressed with my students is this. Your client MUST be able to go home, bathe and shampoo and be able to RECREATE THE LOOK you gave her when she was in your chair. If she can't, did you really give her a good haircut FOR HER ? Good for you doesn't matter.

Since 2020 I have been unable to get a cut that fits my description, my face or my requests to the three stylists at three different chain salons in So California.
Stylists do what they want; not what I request. I'm not shy or uninformed at my age about what I want or need. But I am reluctant to be too forceful with someone who has a pair of sharp scissors near my face!
It has gotten so bad here in Long Beach, CA that the last stylist actually went off on a rant toward the stylist I had B4 the pandemic who could cut the heck out of my wash-and-wear, half curly -- half-straight aging and a little gray around the face and neck short, thick hair. Go figure!
I'm at my wits end because short of being a bully in response to their refusal to follow customer's requests, I'm at a loss as to what to do to solve this problem.
Oh, BTW -- I even traveled quite a ways to a beauty school, but the student couldn't follow the owner/teacher's instructions.
Your thoughts and suggestions would be highly appreciated to help me get my Halle Berry type cut -- my style signature cut. I don't do trends as an artist. That's not me so I deeply resent having women impose theirs on me or their disrespect, too. Help! Thx.

I've never seen anyone take so long to dry short hair. I have this haircut and it takes two minutes to dry it. I run my fingers back through it, spritz a little spray at the front and I'm done. It looks the same as hers! I don't look like her, though!!!

Love the style of her hair. I’m from Florida USA. I’m 72 and I have had the same hair cut most of my adult life. I asked several hair dressers or styles.They never cut it the same way twice. Kind of aggravating.

Wish I could find a stylist somewhere within 50 miles of me that cuts the way this gentleman does. Mine was a design director from Vidal Sassoon that did my hair since the mid eighties. Knew how to design long, medium and short cuts for the individual. Used the scissors. I hate razors on my fine hair. He retired a few years ago...and short of spending a fortune driving to Tyson's Corner in Virginia to Sassoon from Winston-Salem, NC, I am still looking...

My immune system has been attacking my muscles leaving me with mobility problems. I was prescribed a mild chemo regiment which is causing hair thinning. Would this cut work for me? My hair type is straight and fine. I am taking folic acid to help with hair loss.

That's because a lot of people think they can do a 6 week course and call themselves a hairdresser!! Sadly they do get jobs! I told my juniors it can take 12 years of experience before you can be confidant of pleasing everyone who comes through your salon door. Good trainers like this are the best people to help you get there. There is NO shortcut to experience. Too many people thinking they can do everyone else's job these days.

ONLY 2 men have ever cut my hair one in Cincinnati, Ohio & one in Dallas, Tx.I hear an accent so I doubt you're close to me!! I have thick straight hair! Sometimes part it in the middle Sometimes on the side! I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico but probably moving back to Texas..not sure where! When my hair is a bit shorter in the back but when my head is straight the way I walk it's even all around!!

I kind of agree, but I feel as a hairstylist myself, I would have used the texturizing shears with small teeth on spots like the sides you point cut. But not go crazy with them. Just a little bit
You will do a good job. If you can manage the scissors and texture in a creative way. My father use to teach me. How to cut hair since I was 7 years old. I went to school for a hairdresser and Cosmetologist. I love and enjoy every second of it. It's a therapy for me.
