Very well said. I'd agree with every word. I have now lived in Iceland 5 years and every day I think to myself: what a privilege that is to live in this wonderful country.
It's such a beautiful place. I would love to see the northern lights and experience the culture there. And I can understand why people have moved there.
I remember reading about the Icelandic language and how it has survived centuries with little changes in linguistics which is so freaking rad. A modern Icelandic person can understand texts written by the Vikings (could be wrong because I read it 3-4 years ago). Its nice to hear that Icelandic people are learning English but I really hope that they don't give up their language.
I visited Iceland for the first time last year and I truly believe it’s the most beautiful place on earth. It’s so serene and calm, it almost feels like a place that only exists in movies. I would love to live a rather quiet and peaceful life over there but the job situation is a bit hard, like you said. Finding a job that isn’t online or tourism is pretty difficult, I guess. But at least I can come visit every once in a while and indulge in the quiet life for a while!
I really like the relaxed, soft tone of this video Sorelle. Also, I'm watching this as pep before my exam in Icelandic in half an hour... Wish me luck!
Thank you for being considerate and appreciative of the culture of the country you moved into. So refreshing! A see a lot of people moving to countries with even slightly different cultures and then spend a lot of time complaining about how that country's culture is different from theirs and that they don't fit in. Mate, you moved to that country, you need to adapt. Your new country doesn't owe you to change for you. Also, as you said, why not spend some time trying to learn about the culture, maybe you'll actually learn to enjoy the culture!
I just saw your video of a couple years ago where you painted negative body image idea's on your body and stood in the steet. I found it very powerful and just wanted to say after seeing this thumbmail, you are such an amazing and beautiful women who truly lives life to the fulllest. I can honestly say that i aspire to be as amazing as you one day and you inspire me to truly live my life. Thank you for being you❤
The pleasure we derive from journeys is perhaps dependent more on the mindset with which we travel than on the destination we travel to!!!!! This was absolutely stunning to watch. Greate work, great edit....
7:14 "every country has *its* downsides" Beautifully informative video! :D It's been my dream to move to Iceland since early childhood, and your video STILL gave me information I was not aware of. Thank you!
Three things you have to love in order to live in Iceland: cold, wind and half a year of darkness. I could certainly spend my summers in Iceland though. It's amazing and if you are a landscape photographer, it's heaven. And it has certainly changed in the last 25 years.
This is literally so in time for me. I’m coming for exchange studies in January (RU), and i’m doing research for everything that will be helpful for my transfer. Even better that it’s one of my favorite youtubers who upload it.😍✨
just in time! i've been wanting to move to iceland for years, but in few years i'll have the chance :) also move from lapland, finland to iceland is not too different
Yes it is way different! Finland we have forests everywhere and warmer summers. We are cheaper if someone can believe Finland being cheaper to anything lol...
I travel a lot in whole world and I saw a lot of nice countries but Iceland is real Paradise, nice nature, extremely nice people and safe...I live in Germany but be honest I try to move to Iceland ,there is super positive place on the Earth
I always thought Iceland was amazingly beautiful. And I love how Icelandic sounds and would love to learn it, as well as Finnish and yes....Russian. And while the only way I could be considered to move there would be as an English teacher, I wouldn't want to. My specialty in teaching was World Geography, which in many countries seems to be a forgotten subject, or taught completely inadequately. So I would want to go somewhere and help be part of that particular educational team.
Thanks for making me realize that I could actually move to my most favourite country in the world and that my dual citizenship is actually useful 😂. Thanks so much for your insights and for the images you shared. I travelled around Hwy 1 to as many places as possible 12 years ago, and it still feels like it happened “yesterday.”
Such an honest and beautiful review, and I believe is super important to understand those little details when considering moving, and we all should work to keep their culture and language alive 🖤
This is a great video to have the proper perspective about living in Iceland and respecting the culture. Some people move to an area and expect to establish their culture and that shouldn't be.
DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would LOVE to move there😍 Your videos are💣Thanx so much for putting in the time and effort into such high quality videos and then sharing them with the world!!!
I love that attitude of knowing that you need to take responsibility to learn their language rather than locals catering to yours no matter how difficult it is. Completely correct, they definitely need to retain their heritage and not conform to some stale and imo broken sub language system just because others are.
as an island boy I always found myself attracted to this gorgeous place. Damn, now I just need to win jackpot 😂 jokes aside, this is soooo beautifully done and explained. Such a joy 🖤 þakka þér kærlega fyrir 🙃

Your great tips have value for people moving to any new country! I had similar challenges and blessings when moving from Australia to Bahrain. Thanks for making this beautiful and insightful video Sorelle! 👏👏👏🌍😍
I wish to move to Iceland so deeply. But it seems so difficult I almost want to give up. It seems the only way I can get in is through enrolling in university full time, but the amount I have to save up to prove I can support myself seems nearly impossible with also having to pay rent and other utilities on the side. And once I got there I could only work part time, which would that even be enough to support myself? Ah, I just want to leave so badly 😭
There's scholarships and financial aid that cover travel abroad expenses. And, tuition reimbursement helps a lotttt. Mine was 2,231.00 on June 28 and Sept 1, I get 1027$ in tuition reimbursement. The reimbursement can be used for anything. From living expenses to book costs, to travel abroad. You may also so federal work study or apply for student loans. You should really look into this if you attend school in the United States.
Interesting but I don't think it'll be my country. I moved to many different countries, but now decided to travel full-time. No more moving houses and packing and visa and paperwork but travel full-time. Exciting and scary but my dream :)
hey! i hope this doesn't come off as rude, i'm genuinely curious about it: is your fashion experiment still going? i see you wearing clothes that aren't as 'extra' as those of a few vids back and the whole thing seemed so fun and exciting! i fear you might've had some negative feedback about it and stopped because of it. it would be sad but i hope you're still enjoying yourself regardless
hey sorelle! I love your videos so much they give off such a positive vibe ((: do you have any tips on how someone who's just graduated from school can move to Iceland for a year? I love their culture so much but it seems like such a challenge to be able to sustain myself alone there.
As a person who works in the Icelandic fishing industry. There are many many large fishing companys here. Looking up one online and applying for work is not a problem. There are many Polish people I work with that have mini communities in towns across Iceland. And younger Icelandic people speak English fluently and are very nice 👍
Guys "Europe" is not "The EU". Russia, Moldova, UK etc are not in the EU but they are in Europe. Those passports 'from Europe' do not help you in Iceland. There are also companies in Schengen that are not in the EU which also helps.
Wow Sorelle and Leon, you really put a lot of effort to live in Iceland! Have you ever thought of moving back to Australia , just for the cozy warm heat?
Wow, very interesting, thank you for sharing all this info! My husband and I have a European passport and some savings, so the idea is tempting^^ And now I'm also curious to check on other European countries as well!
Most people who have entered Iceland, leave within a few hours. How great a country can it be? Some of them don't even get off the airplane, they just sit there and wait for the airplane to be refueled.
Hi Sorelle, thank you for the amazing content! Could I clarify - your partner said he would be applying for Icelandic permanent residency and next year he will be eligible for citizenship. I thought one could only apply for permanent residency after 4 years, and citizenship after a total of 7 years. Has he lived in Iceland for that long a period of time (and hasn't bothered obtaining permanent residency)? Or is there a shortcut that I am not aware about?
