Okay, I need people who don't get periods to understand this: The vaginal canal does not have a sphincter. Urethras and anuses both do. The sphincter is why you can hold it in when you have to use the bathroom, and the lack of a sphincter is why you cannot hold in period blood.
Well technically this isnt true. The uterus has the cervix, which has a portio. The cervix kinda functions as a sphincter and opens up a little bit while on a period. But you are right, we can‘t willingly contract or relax the portio/cervix
Even if there was a sphincter, imagine clenching it for hours on end. Somebody who doesn't have periods and doesn't understand this, just make them wait 3 hours when they have to pee. Tell them to hold it in. See how long they last. See if they can multitask. At least with this method, they can still argue the anatomy (because they do and they will), but will have to admit that they can't compete. This is the way I argue with half of these idiots, because they think I still don't know my own anatomy.
@@ilovemycat6084 Yeah, I think technically "sphincter with voluntary control" would be the way to describe the difference between urethras/anuses and birth canals accurately, especially since a cervix is functionally similar to a sphincter. There are also sphincters elsewhere in the body (such as the cardiac sphincter between the esophagus and stomach) that we have no voluntary control over But that's all pretty nitpicky, lol
I'm a woman but I remember when I was anti SJW and anti feminism when I was younger, and I remember thinking that all feminists talk about is mansplaining and that it's a stupid term I didn't understand, but now I understand that it's for example when men(those who never had periods) start "teaching" wonen about periods and thinking they know more about it than them, like in this video for example. I would never pretend to know more about penises than a guy, Idk how people are so confidently wrong lol. Kudos to you for not being like that and being respectful, that's a great quality to have!
My father is a cis man and he made himself learn about periods when he got married + daughters. I think a lot of cis men should know about periods for future relationships or if they have daughters
The one about periods being caused by a 'poor diet' is actually really sinister if you consider that malnutrition can cause periods to stop happening... This person is absolutely right that there is a link between periods and diet, but they've got it exactly the wrong way around when it comes to what's healthy in this case.
Oh that is indeed very sinister and worrying... jikes! They'd be capable of putting someone on a diet that leads to malnutrition, and then claim to have fixed them. That's rather dangerous even.
@@undefinederror40404 Yup and it's similar to anti-vaxxers using "home remedies" to treat things like autism or covid and pointing to removed "parasites" as proof that they are right about the MSM lying to them. When those "parasites" are actually pieces of intestinal lining removed by the toxic substances they ingested or forced others (their children or other dependents) to ingest as a "remedy".
i have a trans woman friend who is currently taking testosterone. Because after having her genitals removed her body basically produces no T at all. So she is taking a low dose of T now to raise her levels up to that of a average cis woman in hopes it will alleviate some symptoms she's experiencing
The ones about periods are infuriating. I had uterine fibroids that caused nonstop HEAVY bleeding until I convinced my Gyno that I needed surgery to get them removed....he was an awful doctor. I originally said I wanted a hysterectomy and he refused to discuss it as an option since I was under 30 and said that if I still felt the same way a year after the fibroid surgery that we'd talk about it. A year went by, and the same issues were recurring so I went to talk to him about it....he didn't remember me, the fact that he performed surgery on me, or the conversation we had and again refused to discuss a hysterectomy, insisting an ablasion would be a better idea. I was done talking to him, so I got a second opinion from my doctor and one other doctor in the clinic (the one that was on duty when I ended up in EMERGENCY because of the bleeding) and got a referral for another Gyno, the only other one we had in town. I wrote a list of all the sh*t I was going through and I took it with me when I went to meet this new Gyno, and telling him what I needed. He was a godsend. There is a stigma that surrounds male gynaecologists, that they don't treat women as well as they should and it is so f*cking true. Except for this one, he looked me in the eye and spoke to me like a person, he made me feel like I mattered and honestly made me cry with how respectful he was. After my hysterectomy he sent my uterus to the U of A (University of Alberta) and confirmed my suspicions were true. Not only were the fibroids GROWING BACK, I also had endometriosis. It's been about 3 years since I had my surgery and I feel a thousand times healthier than I did, and it's done wonders on my mental health. I also had a male doctor, A DOCTOR, one of the times I was in Emergency say "it's just your period. Here are some drugs, go home." Only to have me end up having 3 blood transfusions and 3 iron transfusions because of how heavy my bleeding was.
I would add that there are many, _many_ more hormones than just estrogen and testosterone. A hormone is a substance that is released into the bloodstream and has an effect somewhere else in the body.
They're like messengers, setting entire processes into action. If I recall correctly even the signal that tells your brains that your stomach is full (and you should stop eating) involves a hormone. The management of blood sugar levels involves insulin, which is a hormone. And people who don't know tend to make the same mistake with chromosomes, insisting that X or Y determine your biological sex while there is sooo much more at play, there are more than 10 XY combinations possible and there are many more chromosomes that are about completely different things. It's kinda weird really, that they assume that those are the only hormones or chromosomes. Why wouldn't there be more for other processes ¿? Why wouldn't there be more involved in that same process ¿? Did their teachers never say "obviously there is more but it would take me 3 hours to explain it all, so let's stick to the basics" :/
@@undefinederror40404Yeah, there's a ton of different hormones and they're hugely important. The hypothalamus is the relay station between hormones and neuronal action, and I'd love to see some research on trans people and hormone receptors in the hypothalamus,
That's why I always walk around with two cotton wads up my nose at all times. Never know when you might get a nose bleed, better be prepared, right? It doesn't conflict with my quality of life at all!! (/s, if it wasn't obvious)
Anger is extreamly interesting as an emotion , cause it is both one of the oldest most instictual ones , which makes it feel more "men appropriet" as well as it being a mostly secondary emotion. For example its the lizzard brain catch all reaction for different things like hurt, shame, frustraition, betrayal, helplessness... Basically it works differently
The “just hold it in” or “get on the toilet and let it out” crowd is sooo painful to watch 😂😂 like, it’s not an unreasonable assumption to make for someone who doesn’t have periods to assume it works like how you pee, but it floors me when they try to assert their misconception as if it’s fact. Your urethra and rectum have sphincters (a muscle that opens/closes to let stuff through). The vagina does not have a sphincter. To people who may have a hard time understanding, don’t think about it like pee. Try thinking about it like sweat. You can’t *will* yourself to sweat or hold sweat in - it just happens naturally
It’s insane to think every one who menstruates now or ever have all agreed to make periods last over several days while risking getting blood on their pants instead of just getting it over with in one fell swoop. Or that no one has ever thought of doing that and this one man has got it all figured out. Like huh???
@@claramarie7923Thing is, these guys aren't just ignorant, they're severely misogynistic too. They genuinely believe that women are so stupid, emotional and irrational that they need the smart, logical man to tell them how it works.
Funnily enough I mostly don't use anything for my period these days, unless I go on a long hike or something. It's more about predicting than actually controlling the flow though. If I'm just at home, I may go through the whole period without any protection, and no leaks other than on the toilet. Not sure how exactly, as in where the heck is the blood "stored" and which exact muscles do I use to "let" it out, but somehow it just works. I'm 40, and couldn't do this until about five years ago. Before that I used the cup for a decade through all the periods (and other products before I got the first cup). My period also used to last 5-6 days, when it's now just 3-4 days. I think the total volume has gone down over the years too. But I am still bleeding very regularly each month, and in general don't need the cup at all, or maybe for the worst day if I'm going to be more active than usual. I don't normally advertise this a lot though, since I don't want to give any extra ammo for anyone who thinks we can actually control the bleeding at will. Just saying there can sometimes be some level of control or at least enough predictability over the bleeding that it can in practise be pretty close to how these people think it works for everyone at all times. I'd love to understand how it works though, as in do I have some anatomical quirk that's not very common, or is this a "skill" gained over decades of living with a period or what.
"You can put it into a high pony tail and go woowoowoo" was my favorite line of this video. And it's so sad that people are not getting appropriate education about bodies and how they work. There should be no shame in knowing factual, accurate information that allows one to keep themselves and those around them safe, healthy and supported.
Periods can start in water. My mom had no idea what a period was when she was swimming at a PUBLIC POOL & had her first period. 😐 She's still not over it.
Your poor mum! Mine started in the middle of class once when I was 13 and I'm still traumatized about the blood on the seat and every guy in my class laughing and making a bad situation a lot worse. Not my first period, but still something that stuck in my brain for years.
@@NoxBVansynwow that classroom had a lot of toxic guys in there, or at least ones on a bad path. Our class would for sure have been concerned, would still have been embarrassing but not nearly as bad. I'm sorry you had that experience!
I was told the opposite about periods and swimming. Basically no swimming while having a period or you’d get water poisoning because the water would get into your womb because it was open or something like that. It was no sense but it really used to scare me when I had to shower. Also I’m a trans guy and super appreciate how inclusive this video is. ❤
I was taught basically the same. I wasn't told the water would poison your uterus or anything, just that it was "dangerous" to be in water on your period for some reason. Showering was apparently fine, but no bathing or swimming. No clue what the explanation behind this was. I did (thankfully) learn about periods at a very young age though (probably around five years old) so luckily that was pretty much the only misconception I had. I'm also a trans guy btw!
@@lostinmymind8147Same... and as a cis woman, same on the secone one too. But for you the idea that it'll stop, well, it should happen at some point as you progress to becoming more yourself. Good luck dude :)
People in school used to complain so much about having to do comprehensive reading and critical thinking in our English classes, but this is why. So you can actually use your own brain and know that people aren't always going to be telling the truth
ok maybe this is a hot take but i feel like we should stop telling children that fetuses are in people's stomachs because it seems like a lot of people just never unlearn that. 😬 and I mean depending on the age obviously you don't need to give a 3yo a whole anatomy lesson but maybe tell kids that even though the fetus looks like it's in someone's belly it's actually inside another organ made just for babies to grow in or smth like that 😅
Totally agree. And even if they are three I dunno what would be bad about saying womb. If they ask what a womb is the answer for their age would literally just be "the place the baby can grow". Then they would just so okay and move onto something else or spend 27 minutes asking if ______ person/animal had a womb. Lol
We need to use proper anatomical words and not generalized words. Where is the baby? In the womb/uterus. Most young kids will just say okay and continue with what they are doing. You just answer questions age appropriately and don't make a big deal about it.
Yeah defenitely, I was told at a very young age that women have an organ that holds the baby and it's enough of an explanation for little kids. May not be very inclusive, but we can work on that..
You need to be clear about what a womb is though. When I was five, I thought she was saying she had a *room* inside her where my little sister was growing. Not the worst misunderstanding, but still….
I think the ‘period stops when you’re swimming’ myth comes from the fact that the water pressure can sometimes keep everything inside when you’re in the water? I think Mama Doctor Jones mentions something about this myth in a video.
This! I imagine if you exert yourself in a way that squeezes your uterus, the period blood could still squirt out. It's a good idea to use an internal period product just in case.
I would have expected it to be because the water of the pool constantly washes away and dilutes the blood so that it can't be seen. I don't think I've ever read an official medical explaination though
@@dianagreene4257it wouldn't squirt, maybe if you suffer a very severe impact like a car hitting you directly to the uterus, but otherwise it's just (differently paced) dripping. A bit morbid but in a parodying-horror-movies kind of way that did make me chuckle a bit. _sploosh_ 😅
I don’t know how you carried on for another 7 minutes after “if you throw up when you’re pregnant can you throw up the baby?”!!! I’m dead. I just. I can’t.
I'm a cis woman with PCOS too, and I'm taking the same kind of testosterone blocker that's prescribed to some trans women. Turns out we both have too much of that particular hormone! 🤣
And the scariest thing of all is these people are able to vote 😳 Also sick of men thinking we can just hold our period in. When you cut yourself you can’t hold the blood in right (before it clots)? Think of a period like that
The biggest misconception I had about periods as a kid was that blood only came out when you peed because I only saw my mom's period when she was on the toilet. I also was confused by the blue liquid in pad and tampon ads and thought they were for incontinence since the liquid had more of a urine viscosity. Learning the biology of periods in primary 6 sex ed (lived in Scotland at the time) dispelled those myths.
32 year old woman from Canada - I also was taught that swimming caused your period to stop temporarily and that would only come back a few minutes after you get out. I don't know why this particular one is so widespread!
If it's a relatively low flow, the water can disperse some of the residual blood, which can make it look like it's 'stopped'. I can totally see how this idea came about!
The bigger the baby, the more dangerous the birth: yes, those things you mentioned can happen to a post-term fetus in utero, but the main reason for inducing past the due date is to prevent dangerous labor complications for both the baby and the pregnant person.
Regarding the 9 month gestation - my sister had six children and never went into labor on her own. For her first four deliveries the doctor she had made her wait until she was over a month overdue (eek!). I was so glad that she switched to my gynecologist before the last two. He let her schedule inductions around her due date since it was clear that her body just couldn't start labor on its own for some weird reason. Obviously, it resulted in smaller babies than her others and easier births.
I did a quick Google, and Healthline says that while your period doesn't stop in water, the flow is reduced due to water pressure. So, please, still have your hot bath, it can slow the flow a bit, and heat is great for soothing cramps. Bathe with or without a tampon, depending on if you're good with blood in your water. Look after yourselves darlings! God bless!
Had a girl in youth group whose mom told her tampons were sinful or some shit. On our choir trip, she got her period for the day we had planned to go to the water park. The girl was upset about not being able to swim. So my youth minister didn't want to undermine this girl's mom so she pretty blatantly turned her back to the rest of us bleeders giving her a tampon and telling her how it works.
They are considered sinful because they can rip your hymen if you use them wrong (I tore mine by yanking it out at the wrong angle) but some people don't even have a hymen and...well...purity like that is BS anyway.
I was way too old when I learned that hymens are not skin that is closing your vaginal canal, because how would periods and other stuff come out, but it's actually just skin that goes around the canal, so you can "break it" by stretching the skin. This is probably TMI but I was so confused when I first started masturbating with the handle of a toothbrush lol, and I didn't know how it could go all the way up because I was a virgin, I thought there was something like a wall that's called hymen that should prevent the toothbrush from going all the way in. That's when I researched and found out it's not like that at all. Again this is tmi but I didn't know this about hymen until I was 20-21, so when I was 19 and a virgin and a much older guy r*ped me, I thought my boyfriend of 2 months would know thatI wasn't a virgin anymore because there's no hymen and he would be mad at me (I didn't want to tell anyone about the r*pe), so a couple of hours after that thing happened to me, I went to my boyfriend's house to "lose my virginity" so that he wouldn't notice somehow?? It was super painful, I was shaking and still in shock from what happened to me, and unfortunately I re- traumatized myself by having sex so soon after that. That's why I'm so mad that I wasn't informed about this and a lot of stuff concerning sex, because that misinformation forced me to re-traumatize myself, just so I could bleed in front of my boyfriend so he wouldn't think I lied about being a virgin. I was so scared of sex and couldn't enjoy it, and he wasn't enjoying it with me because of that so he broke up with me a week later. I blamed myself for everything and surpressed it and haven't told anyone for years, although it wasn't my fault, the older guy was my best friends fling, and he lured me inside his house telling me my best friend would be there, he had a gun, he locked me, and he held me down, but I still blamed myself. I also didn't want to disappoint my best friend because she liked him (although he was in his 30s and we were 19- 18) so I never told her even to this day. The first time I told someone was 3 years after it happened. I wish I knew anything about virginity and hymen, so I didn't have to have sex 2 times in one day, and not want it both times. I guess that's maybe the reason I don't enjoy sex to this day, I can't relax during it at all, and I consider myself asexual or gray sexual. Sorry for the TMI and for the long reply, I'm just so glad every time I tell someone because I'm was used to not telling anyone for so many years, so this feels like a step forward. Hope you have a great day, and take care! 💜
Tangentially, on the migraine one, I spent about fifteen years without anyone able to help my migraines at all. I had them sporadically from about 8 years old and then roughly every two months from when I was about 13 years old. I wouldn't be able to function for a few days, got visual aura to start, terrible headache, was sometimes sick, and also got tingling/pins and needles in my hands, tongue, and face, as well as that totally spaced out feeling. This affected me throughout school, uni, and into work for obvious reasons. No medication routes, eye checks, or dietry changes (cutting out cheese/chocolate, etc. - not changing bean intake, lol) helped. In my mid twenties, based particularly on the visual disturbances I always had, I tried getting tinted glasses, and it changed my life. I didn’t need a prescription but just got the lightest tint I could at the optician's and the anti-glare. I wear the glasses every day and get a migraine maybe once in a year. Is it a placebo? Is it a coincidence? I'll never know for sure, but I'll take it either way. (I also use red tinted glasses for work - I go in and out a lot, and they're dark enough for when it's sunny but light enough for indoors.) Sorry for the long comment, but I just think it's always worth knowing extra options if you're a migraine sufferer - I would have tried anything. I'm not at all a medical professional in any way, and I know that wearing glasses that are too dark all the time can increase light sensitivity. Of course, everyone should always proceed with caution and check these things out with medical professionals for themselves before doing them. I just wish I had known it was an option when I was a kid.
As a fellow migraine suffer maybe I can answer why the tinted glasses work. Glare even from computers or rapid changes in the light can all be triggers not for everyone but some people are especially sensitive. I have this some you by the sounds of it have this quite a lot. Placebo effects stop working after a while. If that was the cause of your having less migraines it would be miraculous at first and slowly stop working. That's why a lot of medications that are tried work really well for some people at first and then stop working as well your body didn't grow tolerant the placebo effect just wore off. It made me sad to read your story, I'm glad you found a solution by the way. I remember my first full-fledged migraine in second grade. And when I was about 12 and a half, 13 I got intractable migraines which means they didn't have a break. It stayed like that until I was 19. Completely rewired how my brain reads paint signals and a bunch of other messy stuff. I now just have chronic migraines. But sadly for me at least part of it is my brain doesn't know how to not be in pain.
I really want to get some prescription sunglasses. I feel like I have sensitivity to light before a migraine is coming on. Similarly to you, I started getting almost daily headaches and the occasional migraine at around 7 years old. Then I got my period at 10 and have had at least one migraine every month related to pms. My main symptoms that one is coming are sensitivity to light and sounds, irritability, I get very sensitive to smells, I have to pee more often and I then feel nauseated. These can come on a day or two before the actual migraine. Then 2 to 5 days later I get my period. I've finally figured this out and feel I can predict them a bit now.
1. Imagine being relegated to the toilet fir your entire period! My longest was 72 days, and I would have missed a lot of school (and 2 funerals) if I spent nearly 3 months sequestered. 2. If you purged an entire period at once, there would likely be a dangerous amount of blood loss
I was a competitive swimmer for a good chunk of my life. Even as a teen my teammates would still think water stopped our periods. It makes me sad to think about that. Majority of us at least knew better and wore tampons while in the pool.
The joke at the end about rocking up to the hospital and saying "I'm ready to have the baby" was not far off my experience 😂 I had a planned c-section due to my chronic illness and luckily managed to avoid going into labour early.
Ok the pads being tape down there is too real. I've been doing some fairly intense physical stuff and had the pad slip and flip and stick to me before and not be able to fix it for a while and... No. Not a good idea at all it hurts and causes in growns
I will never understand how anyone can use the pads or liners that dont have wings. So many sticky and lumped up experiences in just that first pack I tried before I discovered the wings.
@@animeartist888LoL! This one had wings! But was horseback riding in Arizona in the summer. Between the general heat, my body heat and the horse's body heat that glue just melted or something. I've since switched to period undies esp for riding and it is MUCH better
@@animeartist888 I'll answer that - at least for me, the wings make it -messier-. Something about the slight curve from the wings wrapping 'round leads to more leakage. Or my heavy flow follows the channels of the wings and gets all over my legs? Something. *shrug* Maybe I just had a bad go of it but the brand of wingless I like does a pretty good job of staying stuck where I put it. :) I think some things just work better for some bodies and others work better for others.
The fun part about the migraine take (women have migraines cause they avoid food that would make them fart) is imagining scientists spending decades researching the cause migraines, not getting any conclusion and all the while not noticing women on most of the world - all the latino and african countries where we eat beans almost everyday, all those european countries where ppl eat lots cabbage and boiles eggs - completely free of migraines.
I always knew that if I went swimming while on my period I would have to wear a tampon. I thought that was common knowledge. Maybe it was because I lived in Arizona where almost everybody has swimming pools
It was basically the only way we got out of swimming lessons at school (where as part of gym class we would get on a bus to the local swimming pool once a week for term, then we would swap out with a different class for the firs 3 years of secondsry school, ages 11-13/14). We had a very savvy male swimming teacher when I was like 13, and if you used the "I have my period" excuse for not taking part more than once every 3 weeks he would suggest we talk to our mothers about seeing a doctor lol (which for some of the girls it was actually helpful, because no one had actually told them how often they were supposed to have their period and it was either more frequent than usual or lasting way longer than 5-7days). Back then I had not been introduced to tampons and the school couldn't insist you used one anyway, so they had to accept your self-report for what it was. That said, I don't think secondary schools have mandatory swimming classes anymore (I was an 80s teen), and now it is only in primary schools upto the age 11. And idk if they have any swimming classes in schools in the US. So maybe that might be a part of the issue?
Before my hysterectomy, I would wear swim shorts and bottoms underneath so I could wear a pad without anyone knowing. You know, if my cramps weren't horrendous enough for me to want to go swimming.
@hawkeyescoffee6399 from the US here and not too far out from being in the public school system. I had mandatory swimming lessons during school at 7/8/9 years old (don't exactly remember the age and think it was just one of those years) and then again at 11/12/13 (again, don't exactly remember the year). The later one would on occasion result in female students sitting out due to periods
@@hawkeyescoffee6399 US born and raised here. We didn't have mandatory swimming lessions at all. I did however, have to take a swim course in college- but nobody ever tried to get out of it for periods, so I'm not sure what the teachers' reaction would have been? Being that it was college, you could just not go to class that day and generally no one would even question you. Personally, I just preferred tampons anyways, so it was never something I had to think about. Did have to teach a friend how to use them though when she came over for a swim party and expressed sadness that she couldn't swim. My mother and I gave her a quick education, and she swam in an extra set of my clothes so her own would be dry when she went home.
I'd definitely do that though, at least once, if I could. Imagine how serious men would take us, if we start gagging with huge eyes and growl; 'My...my period..' and then a bit of blood drips past your chin. And you scream for a pad or a bucket and they ask; 'What's going on?! it is just your period, just keep the blood in!' and you respond with a exorcist-throwup-stream of blood, while gurgling and seizuring all over the place. Oohhh they would take us serious. They would finally take us serious. Tampons would be available everywhere and pads would be distributed in high quantities through the mail, without even asking for money, we'd get them for free.
One time a guy friend asked me when a pregnant person's milk comes in. We were adults, but he'd never had the chance/ courage to ask a woman about it. I was happy to explain how it works to the best of my knowledge. I can see how men wouldn't necessarily know about that.
I think it's hilarious that person thought their period would never end! I thought it would only happen once, and was so scared when it happened again the next month, but it took till the 3rd month for me to tell my mom! 😅😂😭 Religion hurts so many people.
Quick point - I've heard that dying your hair when pregnant can make your hair go weird colours due to hormones 🤔 that might just be bleaching it tho. Also the NHS recommends if you do to not get it too close to the roots (as that can lead to the bloodstream) and said not enough research has been done. Idk honestly. That's what the NHS website said
The pee thing around minute 4:00 is so weird because it's literally the other way around for us cis men, and anyone else with a prostate: The passage gets closed off to pee if we're, ahem, aroused, or in certain other physical and psychological states. I don't think the details are necessary for the point. I'm wondering if 17:40 is because they're old-school British and someone told them birds' poo is like that and they thought the person meant women and not actual birds?
for all the "just let it flow out" or "just hold it in" bad takes: perhaps think of a period as more like a nosebleed. It's not like peeing, it's like a nosebleed. It will continue flowing at a steady pace for as long as it sees fit, and you're just sort of stuck at it's mercy.
I love bad women’s anatomy because some of the things people think about anatomy are hilarious. I saw a post once where someone was confessing that they went through their life until 25 thinking that women lay eggs like a chicken every month .
It would be something if babies don't come out unless you are in a hospital. In the early days, there were no hospitals. And, besides that,, about 1/3rd of babies here in the Netherlands are born at home, not in a hospital.
I also don't know why I love the dives into r/badwomensanatomy. I always end up so unbelievably bewildered and my faith in humanity sinks. But watching you and other youtubers react is always so funny. Dear lord we need good AND co-ed sex ed for so many people. Not just children.
The thing with period and water is that technically the pressure from the water can reduce your flow and make it seem like your period "stops". If you forget a tampon/cup/... and go into the sea, not the end of the world, but it will likely start flowing again once you're out
As someone with chronic migraines, I'm shocked that my neurologist never mentioned that it's caused by the lack of beans in my life due to my bean allergy. Everything makes sense now!
Every time I see bad woman's anatomy, I am so thankful that my parents made sure I had all the correct information about how bodies are supposed to work
There have been times where the upper part of my pad has kind of folded over, and I can confirm that it does indeed feel like tape. But that is very much not how it is supposed to work.
“If you liked this video, I don’t know why” had me laughing out loud. I did in fact survive but only just and only thanks to Shaaba’s sun shine and wholesome vibes.

Never heard that a pool can stop your period, but when I was in, I think, junior high (so when I was about 13, 14) there was a very popular rumor that if you took a shower while on your period, you would bleed to death! Thankfully, my mother disabused me of this notion!
The pad one reminded me of a really cool talk I had with my brother and his girlfriend once (and later with my best friend). We were teens/young adults and I don't remember why but we started talking about period and period protections. My brother had never used a pad (being a cis man) and was wondering how it worked so I went and get one of mine to show him what it looked like and explained how to use it. Then we talked about tampons and his girlfriend had never used them and they were both wondering about it too. So I got one of mine and explained it too. I really liked how opened the conversation was. A few months later I was talking about it with my best friend (30M) who is very opened about pretty much anything. And he said he didn't know either so I explained it to him too with a tampon I had in my bag.
Similar experience with my brother. Had to explain how the different products worked and why they were necessary. Have now also had to explain to my husband that pee and blood don't come from the same hole (he's pretty good about most cis women's anatomy, but apparently that one detail was missed ahaha). I don't mind people not knowing how things work or how the body functions. I only mind when they start spouting nonsense and insisting they're correct and the people who actually experience these things are all stupid.
@@animeartist888 Same. I don't mind them not knowing, I mind them trying to explain it to me like they knew and I very much appreciate when they ask. No one knows everything about everything. It's ok not to know, just ask.
I have to admit I always thought the going in water thing was true UNTIL THIS VIDEO and I'm 23.... I use a menstrual cup so I guess t never came up because I never needed to figure out swimming stuff but my mum told me the period is blocked in water and I just went on believing it until now so thank you for educating me!
Apparently the pressure of the water can hold things in a little, but I'd bet it's just due to the small amount of blood versus the large amount of water in a swimming pool or even a bath. Swimming pools in particular generally have chlorine or other chemicals in them to kill all the bad things and keep the water clear, so it's highly possible those disinfectants just act too fast to see the blood in the water, too.
As someone who went through the Ontario catholic sex Ed in the 2000s, can confirm it doesn’t get better; my understanding of my body is still pretty much nothing. Extra frustrating as someone who is in early stages of family planning, and doesn’t know much beyond immaculate conception as a surefire way to become pregnant
When my FAMAB was younger they had an issue with constipation that would lead to needing to go to the hospital for special meds. Which would then take a few days to totally leave their system. During which time they were afraid that they would have a bowel accident especially when they coughed or sneezed. They saw that mommy used pads in the front of her underclothes to keep her underclothes clean so they put pads in the back of their underclothes to keep them clean. They now take their tummy meds daily. Still working on other meds, sigh…
My work requires me to lift up heavy things. I happen to work with 3 other man and one of them came up to me and asked if I was on my period. I did not understand why he asked and it was strange but I answered no. He told me then that he asked because he heard that it is dangerous to woman to lift heavy things while they are on their period so I immediately should tell him if im on my period. I know that it came from good intention but I could not prevent myself from laughing bc it is ridiculous.
I definitely feel like i was failed by all sex ed i had. My first period, i spotted, and i told my grandma that i had my period but thats okay, its over now. I thought i would have a constent flow the entire time. I learned from a tv show that i didnt pee from my v. The sex education system is awful.
My mother had hyperemesis during pregnancy with me (39NB) and one of her medical professionals told her she was “trying to throw up the baby” and sent her to a psychiatrist. Thankfully her psych was a reasonable person and tried to help her with biofeedback, which did not help her vomiting but has helped her with pain and other issues since.
These are all just boggling. I don't get it. My 80-year-old father has always known all this stuff and he went to public school. What in the world is going on with these people's educations?
I don't like to see it. I DO like this kind of crazy being confronted. I wish we lived in a different world but apparently we need to talk about these things.
Unfortunately it's not only men thinking there's only one exit 😅 just last year I had to explain to my 25yo co-worker (cis woman) that you can still pee while using a tampon.. 😭
17:32 explanation for white dog poop It’s caused by high amounts of ground bone meal used as filler in cheap dog kibble. I think most dog food nowadays (at least in countries like USA/Canada/UK) don’t do this anymore, but it used to be super common. Now it’s mostly just from dogs that eat a raw diet who have poops that turn white if left to sit for a day or two. FYI: If it’s coming out of the dog that colour, they are either being fed way too much calcium lately or have something wrong like a bile production issues.
It’s true: my dogs only poop paint swatches. I clean them up from the backyard and use them in my art, as well as harvesting my own unique hue. I don’t poop in the toilet, I use that shit in acrylic paintings. Seriously, WTF????
I listened to this in total disbelief, thinking 'WHAT! No! How! WHY would you think that?' 😳😯😲😮🤣🤣🤣 This is why kids in school need to be taught how ALL bodies work not just their own.
The only thing I wouldn't do while pregnant regarding my hair would be bleaching it, because bleach smells horrible, and I assume for a pregnant person it would be even worse. I wouldn't like to throw up in the middle of the salon.
I know you can swim etc while on your priod but I wouldnt want to, my anxiety just says nope, like after a shower is bad enough that rush to get something because of the hot water (if you dont know both heat & water draw your blood out faster in wounds etc, does the same thing (at least for me) on periods) & no I never even heard this, I thought people didnt go swimming on their periods because paranoia of leakage like me lol That last one reminded m,e of Icarly where Freddie's mum was like "when I was pregnant with you did I make you wait?" & Freddie was like " yes you were pregnant with me for 11 months!" & then his mum said "Well I wanted to make sure you were ready!" i still think about that scene sometimes lol 2 of my mums friends had premies, one was 3 months early & her dad could fit his ring on the babies wrist (& they have always been very skinny) the other's first was similar either 3 or 4 months & she ended up with severe cerebral palsy (& other health issues) she's in her 30s & looks 9 & acts like a toddler(nonverbal too), her other son was early(not as much) but he has no health issues
Just think of how many more people would have holidays as birthdays if we can just choose when the baby comes out? Or people who have the same birthday for generations.
I think that book with the bathroom bit is trying to explain why theres always a line at the womens room. As is the case with most of these, they would rather make something up than ask a woman. For those that don't know, women's rooms just have a few stalls for everything, mens rooms have both stalls and urinals. So guys that just have to pee can just unzip, fish it out, have a tinkle and move on. Girls, again, just have 3-5 stalls to share for both pee and poo so regardless what business you're attending you have to wait for one of those stalls to open, completely undo your pants and pull them and your undies down to your knees, do the deed, wipe and wrestle the pants back on. With extra steps if you're on your period and dealing with sanitary products. It doesn't take us longer to pee, we just technically have fewer options as to where we do it.
I once read about a “potty parity” bill that would ensure women’s restrooms had the same number of toilets, eg, the number of toilets + urinals in men’s rooms. I was shocked that it wasn’t standard practice already. Like, they’re building restrooms where women have 30-50% fewer facilities and no one considered that obviously wrong?!?
As a fellow PCOS sufferer whose periods were never regular from the beginning I thought something was wrong with me when I’d have one that lasted for eight days because I initially thought that was way too long until discovering that the timeframe of 3-5 days I was originally taught wasn’t as rigid as I thought it was and I felt so silly and relieved. One bonus though for me in having PCOS is that I’m a demigirl and due to sensory processing disorder I have sensory issues with shaving so I actually enjoy the extra body hair as it’s weirdly euphoric for me in a way and always has been since childhood.
I once found that a manufacturing error had left an entire packet of pads with the sticky part printed onto the wrong side of the wings, which was. Definitely Not Comfortable for somebody who doesn't shave, I can tell you that much! and would not have been comfortable even if I had shaved. I wonder which other poor saps got the rest of that batch, of if it was just that one packet somehow. How does that even happen? For those not in the know; every pad has an absorbent area, and on the reverse of that area, it's sticky, and it sticks to your underwear, which usually is tight enough to press the absorbent area right up against your body. Some pads also come with wings, which are additional support that fold around and stick to the underside of your underwear (preferable for some people because without them, it can be easier for the pad to come partly unstuck, and in my case I'm liable to get my hair snagged and pulled on by the sticky underside. but, some people don't like the bulkiness/visibility, which is why wings are not the default) If the stickiness is printed on the wrong side of the wings... it instead sticks to your inner thighs, right up near your crotch. and yes, that area can grow hair too, sooo... 😬
I had a boss who suffered from severe migraines. You could always tell when she was having one, because she'd be very quiet and dhe would be green from the nausea. She finally went to a migraine specialist who gugured out it was the combination of her birth control pills and eating chocolate that were her triggers. She had her husband get a vasectomy so she could go off the pill and she stopped eating chocolate, which was very hard for her. After doing that, she went from having several migraines a month to none. Different people have different triggers for their migraines. Mine are triggered by the smell of certain chemicals, such as paint or industrial cleaners or especially when i have to get a tire fixed and waiting in the waiting room at a tire shop, the smell of all the tires
19:39 im only 16 rn but when i was younger my big sister told me that swimming made it harder for the blood to leave the body. Not completely stop but just adds a pressure the other way making it harder to come out
I wasn't told the thing about swimming and never went into water on my period. But I do notice that it usually stops or decreases just while I'm in the shower unless it's a very heavy flow so I think this is probably where the myth comes from. Definitely not universal but there is something to it in some cases for a short time maybe?
Okay, I need people who don't get periods to understand this: The vaginal canal does not have a sphincter. Urethras and anuses both do. The sphincter is why you can hold it in when you have to use the bathroom, and the lack of a sphincter is why you cannot hold in period blood.
Well technically this isnt true. The uterus has the cervix, which has a portio. The cervix kinda functions as a sphincter and opens up a little bit while on a period. But you are right, we can‘t willingly contract or relax the portio/cervix
@ilovemycat6084 functions similarly ≠ same as
There's a reason we dont call the cervix a sphincter, because its not
The body is full of sphincthers. The vagina does not happen to have one. The eyes do though. The heart does.
There are also sphincters elsewhere in the body (such as the cardiac sphincter between the esophagus and stomach) that we have no voluntary control over
But that's all pretty nitpicky, lol
As a cis guy, I admit that I don't know everything about women, but at least I don't go around insisting things that I don't know anything about.
I don't mind people not knowing, really. It's when they are corrected by one who would know, and they insist they're right.
I love men that don’t know about our bodies, and they don’t pretend to. Thank you sm
@@MayaMickaMicak Considering how hopelessly stupid these people are, chances are you DO more about their own "equipment" then them.
I wish her luck! That sounds awful!
Hope ahw ia well ❤
The ones about periods are infuriating.
WHY IS "quality of life" NOT A GOOD ENOUGH ANSWER YOU SEXIST PoS DOCTOR?!?
To be fair, I had a women gyno be as bad as what you describe here.
The hypothalamus is the relay station between hormones and neuronal action, and I'd love to see some research on trans people and hormone receptors in the hypothalamus,
Once again, sex ed needs to be much better world wide
I feel like the amab equivalent of the "wear a pad all the time" one would be to wear cup all the time 'cause their bits *might* get kneed. 😂😂
You never know when someone's gunna kick where the sun don't shine! Better to just wear a jock strap constantly than be caught off-guard!
Or to wear a diaper at all times in case of a sudden uncontrollable diarrhea.
That's why I always walk around with two cotton wads up my nose at all times. Never know when you might get a nose bleed, better be prepared, right? It doesn't conflict with my quality of life at all!! (/s, if it wasn't obvious)
"Testosterone is not a hormone" is giving me "anger is not an emotion" vibes
And a nosebleed. Men know they can't hold in nosebleeds.
Also, if we could hold it in, we… would? Like, nobody likes pads/tampons/bleeding everywhere.
(just got to the woowoowoo part and I'm dying 😂) People's obsession with everything being "inappropriate" is actually ruining everything
I was told you’d attract sharks :/
She IS married to one; I'd HOPE she'd be inclusive.
I just thought the whole pool would turn dark red… I‘m also a trans boy and I hate /that week/ so much I wish it would just stop forever
Or the fact that math classes also contribute to the development of critical thinking and analytical skills for other parts of life
And whose feet smell worse.
ok maybe this is a hot take but i feel like we should stop telling children that fetuses are in people's stomachs because it seems like a lot of people just never unlearn that. 😬
and I mean depending on the age obviously you don't need to give a 3yo a whole anatomy lesson but maybe tell kids that even though the fetus looks like it's in someone's belly it's actually inside another organ made just for babies to grow in or smth like that 😅
Totally agree.
You can even make it cutesy if you want and say something special baby bubble or something idk
_sploosh_ 😅
The amount of gas you produce is dependent on what you eat & your body's ability to tolerate ingredients (such as lactose) in those foods. 🙄
"Cutting your hair while pregnant will cut the cord." What in the Junji Ito is this superstitious nonsense?
And the scariest thing of all is these people are able to vote 😳
Also sick of men thinking we can just hold our period in. When you cut yourself you can’t hold the blood in right (before it clots)? Think of a period like that
The same voters that think a vagina can just resist and deny access to a penis if the sex is unwanted.
As a person who is not a woman, but has periods, your efforts to be inclusive are so very appreciated

(I also use red tinted glasses for work - I go in and out a lot, and they're dark enough for when it's sunny but light enough for indoors.)
Sorry for the long comment, but I just think it's always worth knowing extra options if you're a migraine sufferer - I would have tried anything.
"Throw up your period". Oh my god, the mental image.
Religion hurts so many people.
Operation but with correct anatomy sounds like a great idea! But you know there would be an outcry about it being 'inappropriate'
I can hear the helicopter parents now.
That's what the NHS website said
I’m going through perimenopause and it seems no one talks about it. Outside of “hot flashes” and obvious changes. It impacts a lot more than that.
Watching this episode, I swear I could hear Shaaba’s brain break 😂
Bad women's anatomy can be horrifying but I love how educational Shaaba makes these videos.
If you forget a tampon/cup/... and go into the sea, not the end of the world, but it will likely start flowing again once you're out
Can confirm, as an enby, that I too am afflicted with a corpus containing intestines.
People have a desire to see the negative which is hardwired by evolution. I watch you primarily as an antidote to that. Even when you delve in darkness, your light shines through. Keep doing the happy stuff; you are your audience's relief from all the other negative focused click bait creators out there. At least this part of your audience.
Women actually have shorter more direct urinary tracts it’s part of why kidney stones are worse for men along with their urinary tracts being thinner
Never heard that a pool can stop your period, but when I was in, I think, junior high (so when I was about 13, 14) there was a very popular rumor that if you took a shower while on your period, you would bleed to death! Thankfully, my mother disabused me of this notion!
To be fair, when I feel like my period's gonna start soon, I tend to use pads as a safety measure when leaving the house 😅
I played bass for Anal Psychosis.
dude if your period goes away after you change your diet youre probably heavily anemic
Bad Women's Anatomy videos never fail to make me laugh 🤣
It's going to be horrific 😂
Given how much time Shaaba spent talking about farts, I find it slightly ironic that so much of this video is about people talking out of their arses.
Ok hear me out, Shaaba, you should make an operation game/body map like you came up with as merch!!
I would love to spend 30 mins on the toilet instead of spending 3-4 days a month in extreme pain, but sadly, bodies don't work like that.
These are all just boggling. I don't get it. My 80-year-old father has always known all this stuff and he went to public school. What in the world is going on with these people's educations?
The first guy is confusing humans with cattle. Cows need to release methane, not us
I don't like to see it. I DO like this kind of crazy being confronted. I wish we lived in a different world but apparently we need to talk about these things.
Holding in gas can cause extreme pain over time from trapped gases though.
Do men think, because both fluids come out of one hole for them, that it's the same for women? Do they think babies come out of the urethra?
Unfortunately it's not only men thinking there's only one exit 😅 just last year I had to explain to my 25yo co-worker (cis woman) that you can still pee while using a tampon.. 😭
WAKE UP BABE NEW QUEEN SHAABA VID JUST DROPPED
17:32 explanation for white dog poop
It’s caused by high amounts of ground bone meal used as filler in cheap dog kibble.
Psa, some hair dyes are not suitble if your preganant, just check the package :)
What a weird tidbit, I'm sure many people wouldn't think to check! Thanks for sharing o:
1:28 Shaaba saying “Comprehension” is going to play on a loop. I will make a GIF about it.
Oh, bad women's anatomy... Never ceases to amaze me.
I know you can swim etc while on your priod but I wouldnt want to, my anxiety just says nope, like after a shower is bad enough that rush to get something because of the hot water (if you dont know both heat & water draw your blood out faster in wounds etc, does the same thing (at least for me) on periods)
& no I never even heard this, I thought people didnt go swimming on their periods because paranoia of leakage like me lol
That last one reminded m,e of Icarly where Freddie's mum was like "when I was pregnant with you did I make you wait?" & Freddie was like " yes you were pregnant with me for 11 months!" & then his mum said "Well I wanted to make sure you were ready!" i still think about that scene sometimes lol
2 of my mums friends had premies, one was 3 months early & her dad could fit his ring on the babies wrist (& they have always been very skinny)
the other's first was similar either 3 or 4 months & she ended up with severe cerebral palsy (& other health issues) she's in her 30s & looks 9 & acts like a toddler(nonverbal too), her other son was early(not as much) but he has no health issues
As someone who was born at home (at the time, this was really common where I'm from), the last one is hilarious to me
Just think of how many more people would have holidays as birthdays if we can just choose when the baby comes out?
Some pads also come with wings, which are additional support that fold around and stick to the underside of your underwear (preferable for some people because without them, it can be easier for the pad to come partly unstuck, and in my case I'm liable to get my hair snagged and pulled on by the sticky underside. but, some people don't like the bulkiness/visibility, which is why wings are not the default)
If the stickiness is printed on the wrong side of the wings... it instead sticks to your inner thighs, right up near your crotch. and yes, that area can grow hair too, sooo... 😬
i will never shut up about how the pee one is from the Jaws book. Kudos to Spielberg for making such a great movie out of such a shit book lol.
That last one saved my mental health!
My period kind of stops in the water. I think it's also very common and this is tmi but it also doesn't in the bath and basically yes it "stops"
There have been cases of babies mummifying inside the womb, it's obviously VERY rare, but sometimes they just never come out naturally.
When people wonder why I'm such a misanthrope, I just have to bring this crap up.
18:04 I'm convinced that at least half of this crap comes from little kids being trolled by their older siblings and never learning different.
