      @paulie-g Год назад +1

      But that incentivises a low block, no risk taking and so on for the lower league club who want a replay. Do we want that? Maybe make it a one-off game (with penalties after 90 mins) and automatically give it to the lower league club to host so they get the financial benefit. We'd see more teams taking risks angling for a giant killing then, and it's another way to support the pyramid based on performance.

    Thomas Frank, the manager of a premier league club that has never won a major trophy claiming that a replay and therefore still being in the FA cup is the "worst possible outcome", is frankly astounding. It really isn't that farfetched for Brentford to go a cup run and have an outside chance of winning it. What's even more astounding is that Brentford have spent the vast majority of their history in the third and fourth tiers of English football and will have benefitted from cup replays in the past.

      Yeh it is bewildering to hear, one has to pull their jaw from the floor. The replays in the FA Cup are a unique flavour that you have to navigate. If you take them away then it becomes almost identical to the league cup but with more teams. Part of the prestige of winning the FA cup is that you run the risk of these replays so strategies are required to negotiate this.

    Simple:
    1 If clubs from the same division are drawn against each other, then it’s concluded on the day.
    2. If clubs of different divisions are drawn against each other, a replay takes place. That way it ensures the ‘smaller clubs’ get a replay that helps with their finances.

    The F.A Cup is over 100 years old, it's an iconic symbol in English Football. Why? because it brings all the clubs together in one Tournament, so a non League Club, could play at Anfield, Old Trafford, Ethihad etc. Which would then lead to TV coverage, if that same club gets a Replay, they then earn more money. Some lower League Clubs, have been saved because of the money, they earned from a good Cup run. So if they get a replay, they earn more money. The big clubs don't care, as they don't earn big money from replays, so couldn't care less if they scrap it. All this changing things in Football, is getting stupid now. Look at the Champions League, when we had that season where Tottnham and Liverpool, had that epic semi Finals. When they beat Barcelona and Ajax. When Away goals counted, they have changed that rule now. So we won't see that again, as teams won't go for it in away games anymore. People are wanting to change to much to the game, its been fine, for decades now. Just leave the beautiful game alone, can't even put a decent tackle in anymore, with VAR and the soft players. Thats why in the 90s and early 00s, it was football at its peak, as it had the right balance.

    • @jaycfc6955
      @jaycfc6955 Год назад +2

      The away goals rule was the worst rule in European football. Away team in the 1st leg only got 90mins to score away goals whereas in the 2nd leg the away team could possibly get 120mins to score away goals ! How was that fair ? 2nd placed teams in the group stages played away in the 2nd leg of the first knockout round so we're getting the advantage of 120mins . How was that fair to the group Winners ! Uefa should have changed that rule 20 years ago at least. Jose mourinho's Inter Milan benefited from this unfair rule on their way to champions league victory!

Meanwhile the big clubs Sounness cites are happy that the Champijons league will mean 2 games more, and European football for 7 or 8 clubs. On top of that, clubs fly off for end of season friendlies - Considering Liverpool played their youth team, whilst playing World Cup in 2019 Brentford don't deserve to complain - if they don't want the replay, simply forfeit the game

      Getting those teams that drew into a new draw for the replay instead, at least adds more excitement.
      Also, a league two team could play away against man united for example, draw, and then end up playing Liverpool away for the replay, meaning even more money for the lower league teams. Which seems to be the biggest argument.
      The early rounds of the fa cup are very boring to a lot of people and it's because given the choice, you would rather win the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, Championship - Probably even League one and the Europa conference league or finish in the top four in the premier league before you actually would want to win the FA Cup nowadays.

If they win and go through from the first game then they will get more money than a replay would, with an even higher chance of going away to a Prem team.

    A replay can be a huge financial windfall for small clubs and they work hard to get a tie against big clubs. To take this away just because the big clubs don't like it is elitist and the replays should encourage big clubs to take it seriously and field a team to win

    If you ignore the arguments of "amount of games" or "money for smaller clubs" for a moment, no one enjoys a cup replay, do they? Who's to say that Bolton or Blackpool wouldn't have won their games with extra time and penalties? It's at the point where teams would rather lose. People are so keen to protect traditions when the tournament is slowly dying. What does tradition mean when no one cares about the competition?
    I actually think it sucks for those lower league teams, who have probably had the game of their lives to battle for a draw against big opposition, not having the opportunity to capitalise on that momentum immediately with an extra half hour of extra time football. Instead they've got to somehow find it within themselves to have another game of their life, where the opponent isn't as on the ropes and there for the beating.
    If it's about money, then let's look at getting those teams a bigger cut rather than forcing another game out of sentimentality for an outdated format.

    The chance of a reply for lower league teams away to a PL team could mean so much financially for the lower league team.
    PL managers all have booted squads and frankly their second sides should be able to beat lower league teams first time round, if they don’t then the lower league team has more than earned that replay.
