Something like pop_os or Linux Mint is a good starting point. Genuinely no need to use the terminal all that much in these systems. I've been on Linux for years now and because of Proton I can play basically every game I want to play. Some even run better than they did on Windows lol.
It kind of contradicts itself. If Windows 7 was to support new apps and be secure, it would have to be a modern OS which would require basically a complete rewrite, so would it even be THE old Windows 7 at this point? As of right now any Linux distro is better than Windows 7. The good thing with Linux for me is the fact I can maintain one installation for years and if I take good care of it it will never just be end of life.

For me, I wanted OpenWRT on a Asus RT-AX89X router. But now I want that and a high end enterprise server running OpenWRT x86_64 with the RT-AX89X working as an access point.
it doesnt depend on distribution you need to costumize these things for yourself the best environment is kde in my opinion but if you like you can try gnome too

Hi. well i was using endeavourOS with xfce which i liked a lot, but discord and any other screen recording software made my game lag and get worst fps (when i was playing without it i got the same frames as on windows if not better tho). This made me hard to stream on twitch and enjoy gaming with friends, so i heard about wayland with kde which was glitching out and felt buggy and way more slower than my xfce install. but when i went back to my xfce DE which i liked, but small things always kept me away from enjoying using linux like: obs docks are imposible to get except chat, mouse felt weirder and mor inprecise, my main game called osu had input lag problems for no reason (composing turned off) and for last, i experienced tearing in everything like browsing the web, watching a video and gaming. Sorry for throwing all this at you, i did not mean to say linux is bad i'm just saying that i had a very bad experience with it and i like simlicity over anything else so i just want to play my games without needing to solve issues with my computer for 2 hours before i could play my games. (i don't mind some tweaking, but if my problems never gets fixed that starts to annoy me) TL,DR: -tearing -mouse feels weird (like mouse accel) -input lag
