I follow a few guys that teach photoshop as most people, but I honestly feel your channel is definitely top 3 and it stands out for sure.I feel at times people just almost click bait at times with their title and its sometimes underwhelming, but I have yet to be underwhelmed watching any of your vids, and I seem to also pick up new tricks I never even knew existed ...thank you for the content
Awesome! Man that feels so good to read. I do use the "click bait" sometimes, I'll be honest, but that's because I KNOW there is something good there for people. I don't do things just to do them and I spend a lot of time ensuring what I am producing is something original and helpful, not just a video for a videos sake :) I appreciate you for seeing that. It means a lot.
Blake your tutorials are so Incredibly useful! I am still pretty much a PS rookie, but your tutorials are so in depth, so well explained. Absolutely love them. Keep it up, you are helping out so much! Thanks a bunch!
You videos are easy to understand and so informative. Best of all it gets to the point and it isn't a long drawn video! Thank you for all your hard work to share you knowledge!
Ho Blake, I didn't see this tutorial yet. I have added your 5 tones heat map technique to my latest shots. I think this hard mix technique will complement the 5 tones heat map concept in my workflow. Now it's amazing I really want to thank you because playing around with your watermark and 5 tones heat map tutorials I have succeeded to understand everything you have explained in this very tutorial at very first watch. So here I go for hard mix now. Once again bravo Blake you're an amazing educational person and as you told me before gear is 20% of the thing. The real thing is the craft 👍😉
Thank you for the wonderful video. Please make a video about the difference between hard mix and linear light. It will be very beneficial for the community.
Blake, I always enjoy your videos and the fact that I can use the instruction to help advance my skills in photography as well as Photoshop and Lightroom. Thanks for these videos and I hope you can keep it up for a long time. Thanks
Love your enthusiasm. Excellent video. Simple but elegant topic. Still not convinced of the value of blendif. I would like to see more coverage of post development of difficult sky and cloud images. Not replacements but enhancements. But who can complain for all the time you devote
Thanks! There's an entire playlist on my channel page devoted to blend if. It is, hands down, the best tool in all of Photoshop once you get the hang of it.
Fantastic Blake. Could you say something about how to do some of this with Palette Effects 2. I have lots of the actions you give out but trying not to clutter my actions where I can use ZSE and/or Palette Effects. In fact it would be great for us who use those tools and for you to let folks know about how they can do the work of the actions if you add using those tools to these videos when you show actions.
Essentially PE2 has a column on the right side (Column 5) they are already set up for the Hard Mix Blend Mode, the only difference is the white mask. Invert the mask to black and you are free to paint just Like I showed here.
Really helpful technique instruction. I will definitely be using this method. Thank you for the actions. May I ask, what graphics tablet and pen do you use?
f64 Academy Yeah its great...one of the best actually. But sadly haven't played it yet, dont have a console!!! But anyway I'll get to play it sometime in the future hopefully!!!
Thanks for sharing you techniques, brother. I'm always looking for new tricks. What would be the difference between this technique and just dodging through a mid tones luminosity mask with a colored brush? I know, I should experiment and see what it does but I'm curious to know from someone who has a vastly greater knowledge of PS. Is there a different quality to the light or is this just an alternate method? Thanks again
Good question. The difference is freedom I think. An LM mask is helpful but restrictive to certain pixels. I like this technique for the fluid motion of the hand to the photo with a pen and tablet. There is something that feels more free about it to me and allows me to explore my vision like I did when I was a painter. Really, I think it comes down to personal preference.
Another great tutorial Blake. I did experience some weirdness when I tried to sample and brush. Set up a blank layer, set to hard mix, took my brush with the colour sampler set to current and below and when I alt-clicked on a colour, Photoshop loaded the colour into the background swatch NOT the foreground. I know there must be a simple explanation but I can't figure it out. Any ideas?
Ok after a lot of searching I found the answer (and as expected its small and obscure) If anyone else faces this issue here's the answer (I'll copy and paste rather than paraphrase): "The eyedropper tool whether directly selected or temporarily selected via 'ALT' with the brush tool feeds what it samples into the ACTIVE color. You can set the Foreground color as active, or the Background as active. If someone were to accidentally click on the BG color swatch itself in the color palette, they would set that one as the active color. It all still remains foreground and background, however, if the BG is set as active, then all future eyedropper samples would update the BG color instead of the FG. Give it a try, open the color palette, click the color that is the BG color, you'll see the grey square around it is now black, it is now the active color (likewise the FG has a grey outline now) Whenever you sample with the eyedropper, it will sample to the BG color. Want to switch back to sampling the FG color. just click that little FG swatch and it will work the way you expect." -- Thanks to a fellow named Dan Lawrence on creativecow forums
Hi, I have just come across this brilliant video but I cant download the actions, I get re-directed but the page just shows an error. are they still available in 2022?
I downloaded this and liked the results. That was PS 2018. Since upgrading to PS2019 (20.0.4) the ATN file isn't working. I tried both double clicking which has always worked fine in the past and dragging and dropping. Any ideas?
Recently discovered your channel and blown away from your tutorials - thank you so much!
Wow! Thank you so much 😁

Hard Mix has such a great potential! I never knew it! Thank you so much Blake for sharing!
A very interesting and useful technique. Partly, I think, because it can be used subtly and yet really adds if used carefully. Thanks Blake.
Exactly! The subtle hint of color is the key.
That's a great new 'effect' for me - thanks a ton BR, and for your generosity with the actions too!
My pleasure!

Thank you for the download, I quickly tried it out on a recent photo & it just made life so much easier.
Wow, very useful technique. I didn't even know Hard Mix blend mode existed.
Blake, I always enjoy your videos and the fact that I can use the instruction to help advance my skills in photography as well as Photoshop and Lightroom. Thanks for these videos and I hope you can keep it up for a long time. Thanks
I really appreciate the feedback! I have been at it for almost 9 years, I don't see myself going anywhere anytime soon :)
Another Great game changer... Thanks much Blake! 📸
Always enjoy AND LEARN from your tutorials Blake! Thanks a bunch and keep em coming!!
Woo hoo! Will do :)
I am so glad I found you! Thank you, Blake! I love your tutorials!!
I'm glad you found them too 😁
You're not only enriching your colors, but also my life. I've been using Photoshop for 16 years now (not deep enough though), and I'm learning a ton.
Amazing 😁 I am so glad to hear it. Just made my day!

Woohoo! I appreciate it!
I like learning some cool new stuff and this one just what I am looking for. Thanks
Exactly what I needed. Thanks Blake 😁. Love the tutorials with Gavin too.
I miss Gavin, we need to get at it again!
Awesome tips! Thanks for the action. Very helpful

f64 Academy thanks Blake.
Really helpful technique instruction. I will definitely be using this method. Thank you for the actions. May I ask, what graphics tablet and pen do you use?
I have a couple Wacoms, but honestly... I prefer a $30 XP Pen G640. It is awesome! I never have driver issues or anything.
f64 Academy Thank you! I was thinking of changing from an x-pen to a Wacom...but perhaps I won’t now!
Explained Soo simply! Well done Blake.
What a great technique, Blake!
Thanks!
Love, love, love this video. I really needed this information. Thank you 🙂
Very interesting! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us
Nice Video to accentuate the colors!!! BTW 4:24 reminds me of Red Dead Redemption 2 artwork.
Nice! I haven't played a game in so long, my brother loves that game though.
f64 Academy Yeah its great...one of the best actually. But sadly haven't played it yet, dont have a console!!! But anyway I'll get to play it sometime in the future hopefully!!!
Another awesome concept. Thanks for the tutorial.
Glad you liked it too.
Very interesting technique, thanks! Can it be used to enhance an overcast sky?
You can always try 😁
If PixImperfect is the Bob Ross of Photoshop, you're the Michelangelo Rembrandt.
Facts.
That's awesome! But Bob has great hair 🤣 thank you for the great compliment!
I wish I had discovered you a long time ago. Great video.
Me too 😁
Thanks so much Blake for your wonderful tutorial, but the link under the description doesn't work anyway. Please check it out.
Thanks, Blake! This is great!

Brilliant, as usual. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome! Thanks for sticking around, Robin!
Awesome, thank you!
Cool technique, great channel 👍
I appreciate it!
question. how would this work with luminosity masks?
Same way v it works without one 😁 you'd just use the luminosity mask to tell the adjustment where it can it cannot go.
@@f64Academy but do you prefer the brush or the lumi mask?
Thanks, Blake. Now if only I can get my printer to reproduce rich color accurately...
Amen! That is a dark art with entirely too many variables for me to help with in a comment :)
Great tutorial! You Da Man!
Interesting Blake!
Thanks!
