As a Kirby main it's really cool to see people like JeJaJeJa doing amazing. The world has enough Marios and Lucinas.

Maybe they pay a lot of attention to this matchup because Link is really tough for floaty characters with low weight and close range style, especially online.

Jejajeja must be very experienced. I saw them play against a character or two where they were using a good amount of up Bs when most say that Kirby shouldn't use that move. Then the way they played this matchup was instead focused around the bomb a lot more and they both were able to z-drop combo with it as well as make the Link feel trapped into their attacks. And their use of B-reverse inhale is really good, it just barely failed both times they went for it.

The commentator points out he doesn't know why the Kirby counterpicked Kalos - it's because side platforms help Kirby's ledge getup options as UpB to plat from ledge is a much safer and harder to punish option than UpB to stage. You can see JeJaJeJa use that successfully multiple times during that game 3.

I think what surprises me the most is that he won without stealing his projectile game. Though I suppose Bernie wasn't that campy so it wasn't necessary to do.
Kirby’s overall lack of aerial mobility makes his projectile play much less threatening than you think, outside of edgeguards.
Also Kirby can crouch under boomerang when it’s thrown straight

Satisfying to watch Link lose. He's so unnecessarily good in so many areas. Rush down nair + %90 fast fall. Boomerang and bomb make his neutral so good for zoning. Disjointed sword. Obnoxious OoS that kills early. He's way too effective when he's optimized
This Link wasn't the greatest but I've seen some pull off undeniably cool shit.
Kirby is also pretty boring imo but I was rooting for this player. I respect good players, but I respect players who can make lackluster characters look fun or cool more
You make it sound like Link is top tier. Yes, he has good things about him but he has flaws that make him balanced. This Link played awfully so I'm not surprised that he lost. He didn't use any of Link's strengths to his advantage.

Yeah, online, Link is pretty broken against characters that aren't like Joker and Sonic. I actually feel his sword is his strongest thing with lag online because it is so easy to accidentally put yourself in position to get hit and it kills really early and deals high damage.

What is that blue boomerang like projectile that Bernie throws out every once in a while? It seems like a FSmash but 've never seen that. Did they change it? At 9:58 for example.
Link can shoot that projectile out of his fsmash if he hasn’t taken any damage that stock, he can do the same in botw
I don’t main link but the projectile isn’t really the greatest lol it hits kinda like his boomerang does on the way back at 0%, just not as far and you can’t follow up off of it because he’s still in fsmash endlag (as far as I know)
Bernie is more or less just throwing it out as just another projectile it looks like

I was a Kirby main on the 64 I beat my cousins so much with him I chose to switch to Fox to “give them a chance” I always thought Kirby was a super cheap character but I’ve recently learned that there’s no shame in Kirby main.
How is he cheap? Kirby is def one of the strongest, people just shit in hin cause he's a classic.
To be fair, as a proud Kirby main since n64, he's top tier in that game and that game only. Nerfed into oblivion in melee and trash in every game since. By this point all the Kirby mains left stay out of spite, and have abandoned emotions like 'shame' ages ago. I'll inhale you into the void at 0 and revel in every second of it.

Kirby's so much faster than link on top of half his moveset sending the opponent into a tech situation is pretty OP. Other than a tech roll away or in which is a 50-50 read Kirby gets free punishes and kill confirms. Way easier to combo with Kirby than it is with Link. Who's been created to over rely on his projectiles, which kinda sucks. His tools don't compliment him instead you can't play him without them at all.

It's not about player skill. It's more about the inherent tools of each character and an optimized link will always have an advantage over an optimized kirby. Just how their designed.
