Yes but believe it or not, there are cultures associated with race. Whether or not people part of that race choose to diverge from that culture is often contingent upon the actions of someone else doing so first. So it's nice to see a person of a certain race take part in an activity that is uncommon for people of that race because it makes others more likely to feel comfortable doing the same. The whole point of Roman's comment, I think, is that we don't want there to be any difference in the way people see people of different color, not that we do.
