''Guys, we checked everything and it seems there's no way to glitch out the map'' ''Well put some coins there anyway, in case some fucker finds a way''
Biobak Underscore Back in the old days, glitching would just give you a bad egg and Brick your Game Boy. Now they give you 22 coins for doing the impossible. Nintendo is learning?
I think those lamps were also used inside the main area of shiveria so it would probably be just the default object just for decoration with the same mechanics as the default ones.
True but I'm pretty sure they need to program an object so it gives coins when you hit it, because there are several other things you can hit that don't give you coins
Griffin the FamilyGuyFuntimefunny boy It is the same object used in Shiveria so it already has the (IF collision object"cappy" = true : Spawn object"coin") logic attached to it
Even though these lanterns are unique to only this course, it would make sense for the lanterns to have coins inside by accident. The object designers probably created these lantern objects to be used anywhere, and so they attached the ability for a coin to be collected whenever you hit them like all the other lanterns, and then they gave the object files to the stage designers. The stage designers probably saw the objects and just put them into this course and didn't care enough to ask the object designers to remove the coin functionality from the lanterns since users wouldn't be able to access the coins during normal gameplay anyway, and doing so would just waste time.
Crazy. I honestly thought it was impossible to get to the secret race track. Awesome. Anyway, as for the lamps, it is very possible that they are reused from the inside of Shiveria, as those all have coins in them. It's probably just a default setting.
+SKELUX That's very interesting. In that case, as it stands, I believe it's one of two possibilities. 1. It's as you say, and the coins were placed intentionally there in case a way were ever found to get into the track. 2. There is a piece of code written for every "lamp" in the game (not just Shiveria) that places coins in all of them, and instead of making a seperate model, they just made these "lamps", therefor applying the code to them.
Don’t all the lanterns have coins in them by default? It seems much more likely that they just reused the same lanterns in the tunnel rather than wasting time and space making a whole separate type of lantern without the coins, especially since you aren’t supposed to get the coins (so no one would even notice they got reused).
on that patch of land you landed on in the beginning of the video, you can easily clear the death gap with a long jump/cappy throw and then you can skip all that insane climbing.
I remember hearing somewhere that we (as a community) have found all the coins in SM64. Have we found all the coins (including out of bounds coins like these) in the other main series 3D Mario games? Sunshine, Galaxy 1 & 2, 3D Land & World if you count them, and Odyssey?
I played some parts in Assist Mode (after completing the story) and I didn't discoverd negative effects. To be fair this mode doesn't help everywhere. In some cases you don't get into a bubble. When you need more life, this mode always works and you can regen life when you doesn't move for some time. I used in the Boss rush and it helped me a lot. It's very hard to regen life during a fight but I think 6 life's for every boss is more than enough compared to normal mode. It's not that every moon gets easy. Some pretty hard stages, are still hard.
the downside is the fact you will know you have not actually beaten a not to hard game to begin with. That you will have to live under the everlasting pressure of your own mind, knowing you could've done it without assist mode. A burden you will carry even after you beat the game on normal mode, as you know you needed assistance to begin with. That pain will never leave your soul and it will haunt you untill the very end of your existance. Serieusly though, you don't need assist mode.
The director of the game actually confirmed that whenever the debug testers found an out of bounds glitch that would be difficult for players to find, they added coins to pay respect to the testers. So yeah, the coins were most likely intentional.
This is a prefab object. Prefabs are replicated items from a template, and lanterns appear numerous times in the Snow Kingdom, they also give coins. Since the lanterns are there in normal gameplay (when playing the minigame), it's likely they're just prefabs.
Question, can Cappy be controled during the races by a player 2? The coins might have been left for a cappy to smash into during a race if its possible.
Once you jump on to the secret race track, do you have to keep jumping or can you stay still on the snow and survive? Is it possible to stay still while on the racetrack?
Do those lanterns appear in other areas of the game? If so, I'm going to say they're likely just instances of the existing class, which gives coins when hit no matter where they are.
The lanterns are the same ones that you can find in Shiveria town. As they're the same object they're both programmed to have coins in them even tho you're not supposed to collect it in the race track.
I found a way easier way of doing this a few days ago. The area you "found" by going around the bottom and landing on the platform with shiverians, has a death barrier around it, but its not very big. You can do a momentum triple jump and get farther on the shiverian's platforms. from this, you can long jump and make it onto the track easily. (You won't be stopped by any death barrier so falling is a soft lock) Anyway I already knew about those coins from playing around with this earlier and also was surprised that there is no death barrier anywhere along the whole track. Nice video anyways, and just wanted to tell people this because it would be a lot easier for a lot more people to do this and just have fun with it!
When I did this a few days ago I wasn't able to get past the death barriers and the farthest I got was just walking next to the npc's on the stands so it is pretty cool that someone was bale to figure out how to get past
The lanterns are probably what's called a "prefab" in game development. A prefab is an object that is already per-configured with all of it's functionality, scale, rotation, and properties. These objects can then be saved off and brought back into the scene at any point as a prefab. The lanterns most likely just still contain the default functionality of having a coin in them when hit with the hat, which is why this happens.
My guess is that they just made prefabs for all objects that contain coins so it made it a lot easier to place them in the levels. Not sure if these lanterns appear anywhere else outside the racing track, but if they do, they just didnt bother removing the coins in these specific lanterns
How do you have six health bars like that? The only way I know how to get six is from buying an extra heart from the shop and when I have it it doesn't look the same as yours does there
The lanturns could be re used from other place, that have coins, and they just didnt bother/forgot to remove it due to them being inaccessible (until now)
You can boost while rolling. Shake the joycons and it will make you boost. You keep just waiting till the roll ends and not using the boost to the advantage of getting around the track faster.
The bells probably have coins in them because they are the exact same object as all of the others bells, so it would take less time to just use the same object in the race course and the playable map instead of creating a new bell object that didn't give a coin when hit with Cappy.
Those lanterns only have coins because theyre objects that naturally have coins in them regardless Oh shoot ive been beat to the punch... Several times... oh
If you look into the building you will see that the lanterns with the coins are also there. I think they just copy pasted them into the track thats why they have coins in it
It's not that they intended you to get there because of the coins in the lanterns. There are probably only coins there because those lanterns are reused assets from somewhere else in the game, and the asset already had code for a coin to appear.
I have attempted this myself over the past couple days. It was very difficult to perform all the jumps. I did discover that you only have to get to the third tier of the outside wall in order to make the long jump. When you make the long jump on the third tier (In about the same area where the jump was finished on this video) wait until you almost hit the ground to do your hat throw + hat jump. Your speed is greater when you are falling with your long jump than it is to try and get as high as you can when you make your long jump. I didn't explore much but I was an idiot and tried to make it on one of the islands with the spectators, fell off, then realized there wasn't any death floor and had to reset lol
Maybe Nintendo was gonna let plain old mario go on the tracks at some point in development but it was scrapped, but they didn't remove those coins there because they thought nobody was gonna reach the track.
I think they use the same model for the lantern, that already have the code to have coins, not thinking it would matter if the player couldn't get to those lanterns...
I probably wasn't first to find a path to the secret race course, but I am pretty sure I'm the first to find the method involving climbing to the top then long jumping off.
I really don't think that was intentional. Those lanterns just seem like an asset that were made to be used anywhere, but only ended up being used there. You see this kind of thing in lots of games, where there's something that can be interacted with in a specific way that would be impossible without glitches or hacks.
Maybe the lanterns have coins in them because they were used in another area that Mario can access normally and the devs just copied and pasted those lanterns thinking it wouldn't matter because you can't get them during the race.
you should be the pannenkoek of this game teaching the masses about oversights, advanced movement and the properties of walls floors and cielings in this game.
I had also tried to do that but whenever i got to the roof i kept on landing inside or falling down. Really glad that someone proved it possible to get on the roof.
Dude you know the island that is surrounded in death barrier inside the wall if you do a long jump you can barely make it out and then from there easily jump on the track
I feel like the coins in the lamps was probably just left from when they "copy and pasted" the objects. Still interesting that they even let you move around in those areas. :)
They probably originally intended that area to be accessible as Mario but never removed the coins. Wouldn't be surprised if there are other things like that in that area as well.
Well they are not sadly enough. They are usually not fixed for a few reasons. One is because they don't know it exists, two is because its so hard for it to be done it doesn't matter and three because they don't care enough.
You weren't optimizing the distance you could long jump. Stay in the long jump animation longer as it allows you to move at a greater horizontal speed. Because you shifted to the dive too quickly, dives have less of horizontal velocity, which made you lose height faster. Just an fyi.
It could potentially be a possibility that the original intention was to allow Mario onto the track since the snow acts very close to sandpits. This definitely was not a secret thing he developers added in case someone would look for it. I think them being lazy and not adding another type of lamp without coins would be the most likely thing.
STNC: hello and welcome back to the Shiveria Town News Channel and a recent video was found of a skeleton with goggles on was on in the racetrack, this skeleton is unknown
Coins do not mean devloper intent. All static meshise of a certin type pull from the same code so the programers dont have to rewrite the program a thousend times for each item. These lantens just pull that code.

Well, if it was intended, then it's not actually a glitch. XD
They expected us to find a way out, but they had no idea how we were gonna manage it
Should have been a triple moon hiding in there somewhere
In case skellux gets odyssey... 😂
Are you sure those lamps aren't used anywhere else in the game? It's most likely a reused asset that always contains a coin when placed.
Giodude I think they are used in the actual roomwhere he clipped out from.
Giodude They are in Shiveria town and you do indeed get coins from them.
Thats what i was thinking
It's part of the ground model so it's a reused asset that isn't really reused.
I think those lamps were also used inside the main area of shiveria so it would probably be just the default object just for decoration with the same mechanics as the default ones.
agreed
True but I'm pretty sure they need to program an object so it gives coins when you hit it, because there are several other things you can hit that don't give you coins

I’m here for the memes either that or they intended for you to be able to go on the track, but scrapped the idea.
I err uhh...noooooo
That is pretty likely, yeah. Still, the highest reachable point being the height you need in order to cross is a little suspicious.
Those lanterns may be programmed to always have coins in them
James ah but it would be pretty cool if Nintendo thought ahead
But it had an entire animation so why?
Luis Velez
They just reused the lantern.
Actually I tryed hitting those lanterns with cappy in the actual Shiveria townand it had no coins
the coins couldn't be collected during the race
Even though these lanterns are unique to only this course, it would make sense for the lanterns to have coins inside by accident. Very interesting video but I'd consider the title "coin stash" a bit deceptive, considering it's just about 20 well hidden coins.
John W you must be new to this channel. Skelux is a HUGE clickbaiter.
yeah its probably just chance because they used the sprite elsewhere and put coins in those sprites and never bothered to change them

Instant speed.

I have attempted this myself over the past couple days. It was very difficult to perform all the jumps. How many coins did you pay for this Outfit or how much moons do i need to unlock it?
Did anyone else think he was gonna find a GIANT pile of coins? Lol. Still though, cool find.
The lamps were probably copied and pasted which meant they automatically had coins. Or it could be intentional.
Maybe Nintendo was gonna let plain old mario go on the tracks at some point in development but it was scrapped, but they didn't remove those coins there because they thought nobody was gonna reach the track.

Why is the snow quicksand?
Employee 1:" okay, so i made a death barrier so no one should get out of bounds"
Employee 2:" put coins there anyway in case some fucker gets out"
I really don't think that was intentional. Those lanterns just seem like an asset that were made to be used anywhere, but only ended up being used there. I'm guessing the lamp objects always give coins but the level designers never used them in an accessible area
How'd I not think of using assist mode when messing with these glitches!? Those random dead zones all around the track really annoyed me.
Maybe the lanterns have coins in them because they were used in another area that Mario can access normally and the devs just copied and pasted those lanterns thinking it wouldn't matter because you can't get them during the race.
The coins are no doubt there because it came from a prefab. It would actually take more work to remove the coins.
suddenly every Odyssey video I see is about the Snow Kingdom glitch
3:20 I think they dont put the coins on the lamps they are just on all objects like the lamps.

0:09 why snow in this place act as quicksand?
I am really happy that Nintendo dont fixes all these glitches in Super Mario Odyssey. Because these glitches making the game much funnier then without
They probably originally intended that area to be accessible as Mario but never removed the coins. Wouldn't be surprised if there are other things like that in that area as well.
Can someone tell me how to do the glitch?
Im amazed that Murcury's OOB discovery is leading to all sorts of things
Not noticed that the snow is just quick sand with a new texture?
I feel like with all these glitches and stuff they are intentional because it makes the game more fun to discover them or something
Cloudy Water being a glitch by definition means it's not intentional
Well they are not sadly enough. They are usually not fixed for a few reasons. One is because they don't know it exists, two is because its so hard for it to be done it doesn't matter and three because they don't care enough.
