The Symphony No. 9 in E minor, "From the New World", also known as The New World Symphony, was composed by Czech composer Antonín Dvořák in 1893 while he was the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America. It premiered at Carnegie Hall that same year. In this anthem, Austin’s David Angerman has arranged the theme from its slow movement, and Joe Martin wrote words that draw on Isaiah 49:16 and Luke 15:11-32.
This beloved melody establishes the spirit of humility and homecoming that is at the heart of this simple yet emotive lyric. A fragile piano support lends a delicate air, ideal for communion moments.
