How to install and get started with WSL 2 on Windows 11

Windows subsystem for Linux allows us to run a Linux machine on top of our Windows box. The default distro for WSL is Ubuntu, but many other distros are available at the Windows store.

Thanks for the Video! for further clarification, the "sudo apt update" will only show you the list of available upgrades. I believe you would have to run "sudo apt upgrade" after that to actually run the upgrades. At least that's what worked for me. just in case anyone else ran into the same issue.

WSL on Windows is the best thing that ever happened to Windows! Especially useful for developers when using Docker and such. This is an incredibly useful feature.

Cmd IS the older “command line” utility in Windows. You’re welcome to use it, of course, but if you want to start Windows terminal, just look for “terminal” instead of”cmd”.

It might happen if something went wrong during the installation of Ubuntu. In such cases, Ubuntu will usually be installed but won't have the chance to ask for a username and password, so it will just use root. Simplest solution is to remove the distro and reinstall it.
