This is an amazing lineage version of the Bil Jee. I love that both the internal and external aspects are well represented, and you can the power in the movements. I love it.
From a Shotokan Karateka, this Sifu shows excellent "Kime" in his technique. As to power, Japanese karate strikes often delivers a greater impact than Wing Chun (of any style) in general, given that karate, in kata at least, draws strength from the(bigger)leg muscles and hip rotation. But those of us in karate are now realizing that raw power isn't everything, unless the opponent stands as stiff and straight as a board. The Romans said, two inches of steel in the right place will kill anyone.
Excellent video. I am learning Pan Nam Wing Chun, and it's nice to see some videos of our style online. Truly inspirational. I am looking forward to more clips.
@robertdlithgow Anyone know precisely what the music is? It is rather inspiring to listen to while practicing. (About my previous comment, I don't mean to ruffle feathers. Just because the techniques of one style or art offend the rules/teachings of another style does not necessarily mean that either style is less effective than another. Some from Karate have been very guilty of believing that there is but one method that is superior to others: our own. Don't argue over Ip Man vs Pan Nam.
@robertdlithgow - thanks for your comments. The idea with Wing Chun is to use the whole body and with forward movement to deliver power drawn up from the stance. Also the hips are used to for some techniques and the idea of body power rather than just limb power is used in sports such as swimming front crawl for instance where it's not just the arm that pulls but rather the whole body rotation that generates far more power. I like the idea of the hammer(body) & nail (arm) with Wing Chun punch.
An elbow strike like that may strike the chest and/or the head . It also Encircles . Traps or moves aside , than may also Rake & Drag Downwards, after Striking Really Devastating ! Funny thing about the CenterLine is it`s based on Our body and our Stance ,in Defense . The opponent has One .too! So , as we move , the CenterLine constantly changes. That`s my 2-Cents.
not many people really know the name of this music, It is Traditional GuangDong (Cantonese) music call (Jiang Jun Ling 将军令) in cantonese:(Zoeng gwan Ling 将军令)
Since it`s labelled "Pan Nam" , I think it`s safe to assume it`s not " Yip Man " lineage .The funny thing about Techniques is that there is Always more than one interpretation and application .That`s part of the brilliance of Wing Chun !
I saw the applications to this man's bil jee years ago. Almost everything done here is some kind of lock or throw, especially those elbows, they are a wrist-trap to the arm, then a takedown or elbow break. I'm surprised some posters are are Pan Nam practitioners and don't seem to know this.
Le mouvement des coudes peut être aussi une manoeuvre pour vous défaire d'une double prise à votre collet. Ce sifu possède une belle vitesse d'exécution. On a souvent de la difficulté à percevoir clairement le jeu de ses mains.
The Golden Rule We will try to understand to such an extent that we are convinced we would have done the same thing if we were that person. We willapply this rule when evaluating. Human Causes at all levels of an organization.
sunfist420-I completely agree with you on the CenterLine ,& on the YMLine focusing on Chuan .I would even say focuses on SLT applications . I don`t know much about PamNam Style,& No Disrespect ,but it looks like a little Hung Gar mixed in.I learned a different Foshan Line . An Iron Dummy , you say ?Wow-that`s Tough! At the same time,it looks like they have some very advanced skills in Sticking&ChiSao. Anyone with 2 living brain cells left can see that this Sifu IS REAL POWERFUL !
@robertdlithgow - not enough characters arghhh! :) The Roman idea is simple but interesting too and obviously the gladius and armour was devised to allow the quickest kill available - short and straight = efficient. This allowed compact units to be able to work effectively as no 'swinging' of weapons was required. History discussion endeth! ;)
I too am an exponent of Foshan (Pan Nam) and Yip Man systems. The person in the video is Peng Siu Cho (i think it's his son. The different in the two styles is the Foshan style utilises Chi flow with sudden bursts. Both are Wing Chun though!!The Person in the video DOES know kung fu, he's the Pan Nam equivalent of Yip CHun!

Those elbow strikes are used to break someone's grip on you off the are grabbing your arm.

@shaolinton108 It`s true Ip Man refused to teach Pan Nam(black face nam) i believe this him.
Antes de irse a Hong Kong, Yip Man a petición de Jiu Chow, corrigió las formas a Pan Nam, que era su discípulo.
2jgard is right, Ip man punches deliver more force
