I feel like in the book, Annabeth genuinely found cerberus cute and played with him because she considered him as an adorable lil dog, she even cried when she had to leave him behind. But in the show, she saw her skills of playing with a dog as a useful tool in her strategy, which removes the fun and cuteness of the scene, but also makes annabeth seem like a genuine soft person behind her walls of bravery and coldness Also, Aryan spoiled that there was going to be a percabeth scene in the montauk cabin next ep so im exciteddd bcause it might be the scene explaining annabeths regret
@@juliana-fu8hi I agree with you. Also what's weird about the flashback to me is that since you have Percy making the line about not being in Kansas anymore as well as Hermes reminding him of what happened in the previous episode, you'd think that the flashback would be JUST from Percy's perspective, but it's not. There are some parallels between the flashback and what's happening in the present but I don't really understand the significance of it in relation to the present events except foreshadowing Poseidon helping Percy in the Area fight.
The thing about adaptations is that action scenes are usually the first things that get cut or trimmed down, first because of budget and second because of time. The third reason is because they strive to provide a different perspective on the existing material. While I think naive bumbling Percy would have been funny for a little bit it would have gotten very old very fast. Plus it never made sense to me while reading the books that Percy does not know these myths when it would make logical sense for his mom to know the world existed and prepare him for it so I am happy that has been changed. My only complaint about the show so far is not enough scenes with our heroes as a trio, they keep paring them off which is disappointing.
I fully agree. I think most of the audience would start rolling their eyes fairly quickly if Percy was as clueless in the show as he was in the books. I think his knowledge in the show also serves Sally's characterisation well. She is a great mom and she always knew that one day Percy would have to enter this world - of course she's going to make sure that Percy knows as much as possible about it. If she hadn't, she would come across very weird and uncaring? I think I'm just repeating what you said lol, but I very much agree with your points
Yeah that only works in the books because of the engaging internal dialogue. I also don’t see why there should be long drawn out action scenes in the series. Percy isn’t that skilled of a fighter yet, plus they’re 12 (except Grover who isn’t a big fighter). Realistically their only chance is making good plans that are effective. If said plans fail then they aren’t going to be able to power through and force the issue right now. It just makes sense. And book scenes that take time describing these action scenes really wouldn’t be that long if you saw them play out rather than reading the thoughts and observations of the characters while they do so.
Thank you! I loved this episode and I have been loving the show as a whole. I personally like the changes because I feel like they make sense and overall it has the spirit of the Percy jackson series which is the most important thing for me. I think the changes add something different that can keep long-time fans interested which is great.
Agree with everything. Even with your complaint. That's why the medusa one was so special to me because it's one of the few things they were able to team up and beat a monster.
I overall really like the episode. The Underworld looked great, the Percy, Sally, and Poseidon flashbacks were very strong. I do wish we’d gotten some more like acknowledgment that Grover actually almost fell into Tartarus and I kinda wished to see Hades shaking his palace in anger over the loss of his helm. In my ranking I don’t really know where it stands but what I can say right now is that I’m excited for episode 8 because a certain scene is gonna happen 😁.

The books balanced the seriousness with silliness perfectly but this show doesn’t understand when its time to be fun vs when its the time to be serious. Ppl said that this is the way rick created the 2.0 ver of lighting thief i’m sorry but if this the story of the book i’m not gonna read to so many times like i do to the original book.
This was by far my favourite episode so far. The cinematography was awesome, the look of the Underworld and Hades’ palace was really good - I’ve seen much worse CGI in much more expensive movies. And I loved the backflash, expanding on Sally’s character, her struggles and despair, and the introduction of Poseidon. They connected it well to the main story, both dealing with questions like loyalty, abandoning, distancing for the other’s sake etc. The Kansas quote was a nice connection, and Poseidon’s voice-over when Percy gets ready for the fight with Ares - really great! Percy knew about Crusty - probably Hermes included the information in his letter in which he told them where the entrance was, right?
"Percy knew about Crusty - probably Hermes included the information in his letter in which he told them where the entrance was, right?" probably, but I feel like you have to stop and really think about it to reach that conclusion
SPOILER FOR THE LAST EPISODE - readers beware, this is something that was NOT in the book . . . . leah accidently spoiled that annabeth is present during luke's reveal. i now wonder whether her regret will be revealed and somehow connected to it
I like the show. But honestly I’m very biased. I’m just excited to see my favorite moments brought to the screen with an attempt at book accuracy. Namely the Hunters of Artemis and the events of the Titan’s Curse. I also want to just trust Rick to make his story work for kids today. I owe my life-long interest in mythologies/religions, history, etc. to Rick and his books. If this show gets just 100 kids to read more about those kinds of things, or just read more in general, I think it will be more than worth it. My main concern/question would be is this show going to become PG13 by season 2 or 3? There’s no way they could show the events of the Titan’s Curse with just a PG rating. “Stars… I can see the stars again my lady.” 😢
Episodes 1-3 were amazing and everything a Percy Jackson fan could dream of (love the cast) after those episodes, it was like the tone of the show completely changed, there seems to be scenes missing (not even from the book) but from the show, it feels like there are scenes that should be there that aren’t, some people may call it “filler” but “filler” is key to a good story, they are just fighting the monster every episode with no struggle, just magically knowingly how to fight it, they even left out the parts where Percy was ever in danger, aswell as they just suddenly arrive somewhere, with no knowledge of how they got there. Especially when they were hiding from Medusa, how did Percy get away without her being suspicious. Hardly any of the Greek god world is explained. Making the vibe less enchanting, and the show less engaging. In the book it felt like the stakes were higher, but in the episodes they hardly mention how dire the quest is. It reminds me of a cartoon where they know how to defeat every villain, and every episode, I would even compare it to a cartoon, it’s repetitive. Especially for new fans, it’s just a lot of assuming what it going on.
Honestly I really like this episode because i feel like for once the changes actually really expendant in the story from the books. We didn't see much of Sally so we don't have much attachment to save her her in the series but here we see how hard it was to raise percy and her internal conflict. And also we see that Poseidon did care about them !! For me I didn't hate how Hadès is shown because i feel like it's a good way to show he's one of the softer gods like we learn in the books. But i do agree i think i would like it if Percy was sometimes a bit clueless but i think they did that change so it's not always "now x or y has to explain to percy everything" but i hope they sometimes still keep it a little 🤔🤔
Lets be real, the main thing we've all been waiting for was the Ares fight and the Luke Betrayal, I'm kinda salty that this episode didn't have the Ares fight but that just makes the last episode more anticipating. Can't wait for the last episode and all those Luke betrayal edits 😭😭
I actually liked the flashback. Not just because of the Sally and Poseidon scene but because it tied nicely into the episode, with Sally having to make difficult decisions concerning Percy and Percy having to do the same thing in the underworld. But other than that, I was also a little underwhelmed by the episode. I am mostly missing the humor from the books. This is not an issue with this episode per se but now that we are almost at the end, it becomes very noticable. Where was funny Charon in a suit? Or (as you mentioned) the bathtub quote? One of the few scenes where I saw the humor from the books at full display was with Ares. I wish we had more of that. I still think the actors are perfect for their roles so it's a very much a writing issue for me. Concerning the fight with Ares, maybe Poseidon will help Percy more directly in the show to make it more believable?
Love your thoughts as always. While this wasn't my favorite episode, I liked it ok. This is off topic, but have you seen the new Avatar trailer and are you planning to watch the show? I would love to see a video from you on that!
The trailer looks amazing! It made me so hyped for the show! And I really want to make a video on it once I watch it so hopefully that'll happen! Who's your favorite character from ATLA? For me, I can never choose between Toph and Soka (and maybe Katara!)
it's so interesting how people experience things so differently, I can't get over the fact that I seem to be the only person in the fandom who liked ep 6 better than 7?!
I liked this episode. Finally we get to see the real Hades on screen. And it's the studio that played a big part in us not getting to see the real Hades (ie that aweful Hercules movie-played such a big role in how the Fox movies got the same things wrong the Hercules movie got wrong) that gave it to us. Ironic but I'll take it.
@@Unclaimeddemigod I don't like Disney's Hercules because of what I see as unforgivable changes like Hades being "Satan with a different name" or Hera being Hercules's mother so that Hades can be made the villian. I can understand liking it as a Disney musical but some of the worst parts of the Fox PJO movies like the Hydra scene or making Hades the villian with a clear resemblance to Satan and even taking it a step further and calling the underworld "hell". Just too many unforgivable changes that shaped public perception. I'm glad Disney is cleaning up the mess with this awesome show.
I’ve been really enjoying the series, until I found out the budget was 12-15 million dollars per episode. That’s the same as game of thrones. They won’t even show Percy pulling out anaklusmos to save money. WHERE IS ALL OF THE MONEY GOING??? The movie looked better when it comes to fight scenes and visual effects
@@Unclaimeddemigod Agreed. story is fum and great, but it seems low budget when it comes to the action, intensity, and cgi. Which would be fine if it was low budget. but it most certainly is not
I really enjoyed this episode (which is sad because it’s a first for me). Sure, there were some things I didn’t like (Hades not being that impressive for instance) but they can fix this later on. The thing that bothers me most though (in the series as a whole) is the fact that, in the show, Percy has a Phd in mythology. I mean, I can understand why they did this in the Medusa episode. Everybody knows Medusa. But Procrustes? The Lotus Eaters? I don’t think so.
you do realize annabeth probably told him about procrustes and most of the rest as she has done with many things and it doesn't make sense why she doesn't know it in the books... also percy does know a lot about greek mythology as his mom told him and he paid attention in class..
I think Percy dad will show up to help them with Aries notice how his monologue was going on as Percy was getting helped up and they were at the beach so that’s my theory lol because Percy hasn’t trained really
Yea. I definitely agree that this one isn’t as good as episode 6. I overall enjoyed it, like all of the other episodes, but I really felt the pacing issues. And I’m someone for whom issues slide on by.
@@Unclaimeddemigod and I really don't like what they keep doing with Percy immediately knowing _everything_ , even stuff he shouldn't know at all, like how the waterbeds are the trap. I can (slightly) forgive him immediately knowing Procrustes, but no way in Hades should he know the waterbeds are the trap. And doing that "narrating their wiki page to their face for plot purposes" really takes away from the reveal and the random yet funny world building of the books. I seriously hope they don't continue doing that, cause it's really gonna start annoying me. It's almost as bad as the "as you know" stuff and the Katara narration of the last airbender movie
It’s gotten to the point that I’ve unfortunately come to the conclusion that I’m not loving the show in general unfortunately. At least I’m not loving the series as much as I wanted to love it. I’m liking the show well enough, don’t get it twisted, but it had so much more, unfortunately, in my opinion at least, unrealised potential to be better especially with the author of the original books writing it. Blasphemous, I know, but I think I might prefer the films over the series at this point. Sorry, not sorry, Rick. I’m fully aware that as 22 year old guy I’m not the target audience for this series but still.
they leave crusty alive even after Percy himself says he is murdering people, like whyy, Percy kills him why not do that is it so hard to make that disney sholdn not have kills in the franchise.
I have very conflicting thoughts with hades. It’s GOOD, but it’s not how the books did it, and it’s not how I imagined it (which is way different from the books) but I’m open to a new perspective. It simply doesn’t make that much sense to me? He’s the god of the underworld and I can’t really imagine him being this extroverted and friendly. Like not that he has to me mean, but like, you know what I mean.
@@G-LukeJA I’m not saying he has to be cruel, but I just can’t see him as like a super welcoming inviting guy. He’s a god and supposed to be at least a little bit intimidating. Like I really don’t know how to explain it, but I just don’t know how he’s this friendly when he’s been living in the underworld with probably little social interaction
I just read the books over again. They made this a true adaptation. They didn’t try to make it just like the book. As a reader… I loved how I didn’t know how this episode was ending. They made old fans and new fans happy with this one. 🫶🏾

SPOILER FOR THE LAST EPISODE - readers beware, this is something that was NOT in the book

leah accidently spoiled that annabeth is present during luke's reveal. i now wonder whether her regret will be revealed and somehow connected to it
I read this without meaning to........... damn it
I like the show.
Truee been waiting for these edits since the start of the show lmao
this episode wasn't my favorite but it had a couple of fun moments, I'm really looking forward to watching the final episode though!
my sentiments exactly!
anybody else feel theyre turning grover into movie ron?
I respectfully disagree with you on whether this was a great episode
I agree, I think they need to change some things up in the writer's room for next season! I really want more humor in my PJO please
I think my favorite is Zuko but I like all of them!
This is wild because 6 was by far my least favourite and this was by far my favourite.
it's so interesting how people experience things so differently, I can't get over the fact that I seem to be the only person in the fandom who liked ep 6 better than 7?!
When you say "that awful Hercules movie" you can't mean the Disney one, right? RIGHT?
I agree tbh, it feels like they're really pulling back and this show NEEDS special effects
I don’t think so.
you do realize annabeth probably told him about procrustes and most of the rest as she has done with many things and it doesn't make sense why she doesn't know it in the books... also percy does know a lot about greek mythology as his mom told him and he paid attention in class..
does the summer holiday end on the fourth of july in America? cause like, thats not the last day of summer. thats almost the first day of summer
I think Percy dad will show up to help them with Aries notice how his monologue was going on as Percy was getting helped up and they were at the beach so that’s my theory lol because Percy hasn’t trained really
I mean he does help Percy in the book. It’s his father’s water powers that prevent him from dying while facing the literal God of War.
Everyone remembers Rick Riordan said he wanted to use this to "fix" things he didn't like about the books, right?
Yea. I definitely agree that this one isn’t as good as episode 6. I overall enjoyed it, like all of the other episodes, but I really felt the pacing issues. And I’m someone for whom issues slide on by.
finally someone who likes this one less than ep 6!
I quite liked flashbacks really builds up the character of sally and Poseidon
These writers could do a lot with lukes 4th of july moment if they were allowed to cook. i hope they were. i can't wait honestly
They better have cooked
Cause the last day of summer did it flawlessly
i loved the episode and the flashback was amazing for me, i always love a good flashback
I want a baby goat Grover flashback
ok I'm glad I wasn't the only one who wasn't totally thrilled with this episode. It was good, not great.
it had a lot of potential but fell a bit flat
I didn't really like episode 6, but 7 was one of my favorites.
Am I the only one who experienced it the other way around???
It’s gotten to the point that I’ve unfortunately come to the conclusion that I’m not loving the show in general unfortunately. At least I’m not loving the series as much as I wanted to love it. I’m liking the show well enough, don’t get it twisted, but it had so much more, unfortunately, in my opinion at least, unrealised potential to be better especially with the author of the original books writing it. Blasphemous, I know, but I think I might prefer the films over the series at this point. Sorry, not sorry, Rick. I’m fully aware that as 22 year old guy I’m not the target audience for this series but still.
His Wrestling name is Edge. His favorite move is the Spear.
Can you do a how to read the books in order video
She already did
Who else was scared it would scream loud when it said turn up ur volume
I loved the poseidpn addition istg
he has a British accent
I rest my case
they leave crusty alive even after Percy himself says he is murdering people, like whyy, Percy kills him why not do that is it so hard to make that disney sholdn not have kills in the franchise.
Percy or Annabeth should have decapitated Crusty, there I said it
I hope we get the siren scene in season 2 if they do the season.
I like it, because its not the mean cruel man that most stories go for
@@G-LukeJA I’m not saying he has to be cruel, but I just can’t see him as like a super welcoming inviting guy. He’s a god and supposed to be at least a little bit intimidating. Like I really don’t know how to explain it, but I just don’t know how he’s this friendly when he’s been living in the underworld with probably little social interaction
at least persephone didn't attack hades, but I needed Charon to sign DOA.
that would have been iconic
I'm still here rooting for a musical episode
My 2nd favourite episode of the show. God am I so sick to death of all the negativity.
I can't believe my opinion is so different from my subs this time, how am I the only one vibing with ep 6 but not 7? XD
Episode 6 was the worst episode!
As much as I HATED episode 6, episode 7 made up for all of that!
We'll have to agree to disagree, cause I'm an ep 6 over ep 7 girlie all the way
@@Unclaimeddemigod And you know what, Queen, I respect that! I do not understand...but I respect it! lol 😤😤 The PJO fandom is NOT a monolith!

hiya!
I just read the books over again. They made this a true adaptation. They didn’t try to make it just like the book. As a reader… I loved how I didn’t know how this episode was ending. They made old fans and new fans happy with this one. 🫶🏾
