@@barneymagee3285 hi Barney hope you’re well, I stumbled across johns channel, and I’ve been transfixed ever since, I was in the British Army and severed all over the world in conflict, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Northern Ireland, the problem is that as a 18 year old infantryman were just barely pawns on a chess board, and really don’t get told why or what we are doing most of the time, I’ve spoken with John via email and thanked him for opening my eyes to both sides instead of what what we get told…
I really can see why it was so important for both sides, but I’m still miles behind on the history of the conflict.
So I really can’t comment on your reply because that would be ignorant of me, and the last thing I don’t want to do Is offend anyone.
But I’m really interested in this topic and if you can recommend any books, documentary’s etc etc that would be appreciated.

Wanted to make mum proud and I was blind to what I was walking in to, there was nobody in my family history who served, and it was probably the first time in my life that I had a father figure, and proper discipline, I thrived and loved every minute of it, met some absolute amazing friends who all still keep in touch, but also lost a lot too, too many but the strange thing is that most who lost their lives wasn’t down to war, it was down to mental health and what was left after we had to see what war brings suicide is crazy but there is no aftercare and your right we just get dropped without any thought of civi life.
We can’t think for ourselves we told what to do and when to do it, and this is carried up through the chain of command, no matter what rank you get to there’s always someone telling you what to do and it’s a massive knock on effect. And I know this personally because I went up the ranks.
I hate the way we’re left without any support and my fellow infantryman should agree.
Would I change if I could turn the clock back, absolutely not, its made me who I am today, but there’s a massive problem with follow on support, not sure what it’s like now I served my time in 97-2006.

''Don't want to say too much about that case'' time and time again it just keeps arising. ''Doesn't have to be in that position when he is recruited'' ''looking to influence, push increase their access, you can push and steer''. The questions are still begging to be asked, Well whom put him in that position? Or is the salient question, who had the subtle word in the ear of the person whom put him in that position. Or indeed does the fact that MI5 viewed Mountbatten the raving pedophile as an immediate and existential threat to the realm following the scandal which now we all know about, have any bearing on the matter, or indeed that much praised documentary/book with its openly film recordings of carrying out operations which would get anyone 200yrs in a Diplock court. The bottom line is the Brit Intelligence service as a whole are milking this to create as much chaos/confusion/tail chasing as possible. Remember one thing re the Brit services, once in always in, their still playing their masters game, important not to be un-knowingly tricked into been a shill for their never ending game.

Costello , Ta Power and O'Hara were way ahead of their time politically and the book is a great read about the INLA Freedom Fighters and also shows how ruthless the FRU were in regards to their Dirty tactics in a dirty war...!! #TAL32

This guy was a contemporary of mine.
December 1983, i was tasked as close protection for a female Intelligence Officer on an operation to make contact with Dominic and his wife in County Wicklow. We made contact with them in Delgeny village close to Bray. The night before he captured and tied up Irish Police.
Unbeknown to the female Intelligence Officer, i was ordered to kill both Dominic and his wife, should the opportunity arise.
Irish Police and soldiers were all over the couple like flies and i really didn't want to be caught with the stupid 32 Cal i was given by the diplomats upon arrival in the Republic. I destroyed the firearm and the ammunition within three days.
I overheard some of what the Intelligence Officer was offering Dominic and it included the names of every informant in the INLA, both agents being run by the British in the North.
D16 was playing their own game with Irish Terror at the expence of 5 and Security Forces in the North.
I had the chance with Dominic a few years later, i failed for the only time in my career. He was truly blessed, that man.
It was a filthy dirty war and i am very glad to be a reformed character free of my former career and the stinking British Government.

He was doin ok , until , He got to claiming that some people in west Belfast and south Armagh were not entitled to vote , this is obviously nonsense , everyone in Northern Ireland was entitled to vote , the contentious issue was that someone who lived in one area , but had a business in another area , could vote in both, which led to the cry of ‘one man, one vote’ , this applied to business owners irrespective of their religion . I would have expected better from a member of the ‘intelligence corps’.

    • @phillysson7579
      @phillysson7579 Месяц назад +16

Not everyone had the vote in council elections.
"Voting inequities continued in Northern Ireland until the late 1960s, where only ratepayers and their spouses had a vote in local council elections. This meant that the poorest in society, who did not own the property they were living in, did not have the right to vote - and private landlords who were technically the ratepayers for multiple properties had multiple votes (even though the rent paid by their tenants would have covered the rates). While tenants in council houses had the right to vote by virtue of being ratepayers, the allocation of council houses at this time was covertly discriminatory."
And that's what led to the "one man, one vote" cry.
