I was at this show. My 1st time hearing days between. Left me amazed at how soft and beautiful Jerry's voice can be. I remember standing on the floor just staring in a trance at Jerry and how magical it all felt. I MISS YOU JERRY
My all time favorite song. I had seen it live March 28th 1994. To this day i believe it to be the best rendition I've ever heard. If anyone out there has a copy of it please post it. I'd seen it live and would love to get lost in it once more. RIP Jerry. You are forever missed...... :-(
+victimorthecrime Hey Bro, not sure how to load on to RUclips, but here it is on archive. Not the best recording, but it will take you there! Enjoy archive.org/details/gd1994-03-28.senn441.lynch.34561.flac16
Jerry was born on August 1st, I was born on August 5th, he died on August 9th. This song has always had a special way of touching my soul because I was born in the days between, forever etched in time. Gave the best we had to give, how much much we'll never know, we'll never know.
There were times where his guitar was really turned down low. He was so self conscious about his playing at this point. It makes me sad. Because I think Jerry always played beautifully even when he wasn't at his best
He often turned his guitar down so as to let Hunters lyrics really stand out. He would even write simple chords so as not to over shadow RH's lyrics. Not at this point however as I watched him from front row stumble into mic and nod out. It was sad and even scary he may fall forward off stage. Oh how I still miss him and the joy he brought to summers!
This was the show after the first was cancelled due to Billy's father being ill. It also was the show the Orlando police used tear gas on the folks outside during the show. The band found out about this and it was very appropriate that Jerry sang this one.
A few weeks before the April fools show in Memphis. They used tear gas on peeps . Watched it , sitting on the hill looking down at people getting ran over by police on horses
Orlando? David Gans played a mix of the March 28th version and this one on a GD Hour just after he died. 3-23-95 from Charlotte is strong, too, almost sounding like he has a cold or something.
mikemednick Or maybe you could understand that saying "I was there" is a way of staying connected the music letting everyone else who was there know that we shared a common beautiful but fleeting experience long ago.
I know this comment is old but I'd like to put in my two cents. I don't think of it as bragging, I think of it as sharing. I have had many a Deadhead ask if I've seen them when I'm wearing a Dead shirt, or ask if I was there when I wear my Fare Thee Well shirt, and then roceed to tell me about their favorite shows. I love that aspect of the Dead and I love hearing all the stories from the day. (~);}

Sigh. Cool. Swan Song.
Jerry's almost faded out
I wish heads were more humble like the Dead and quit bragging about "I was there" on all these sites

Point well taken :-)
