I will never do a no-buy year. I know my personality. Anything extreme causes my inner 2-yr old to rebel. I am doing a 5 yr low buy! I'm allowing myself a strict weekly "fun allowance" as part of a plan to save hard for retirement. I need a little reward each week for saying, "no, no, no, no, no, no" all week long. I'm a grateful person. I know I'm blessed. But, I also know Satan is behind overconsumption and telling us we'd be happier with more. For me, more rules means Satan gets sneaker and meaner. Honestly just had my teen be disappointed in his Christmas which made me realise that I need to focus on encouraging him to be grateful and to lessen the entitled part of his personality. Yep that was me re: the Buy Now documentary on Netflix. I know, it was definitely not easy to watch but it was also definitely something that I personally needed to see as a reminder that would hit me right now. I want my husband and kids to watch it too. Yes absolutely the waste is entirely out of control. It's just mind-blowing!!!! I'm so excited about the idea of using what I have and just getting creative about all of it. I'll be watching all over for fun resources and ideas people are sharing. I love your idea of making a game of things, so I'm doing that with this too. 😀

We are doing a low spend year because we are trying to pay off some things and rebuild from the last couple of years. Our well went out right before Thanksgiving so we've been working on a very tight budget. We went to a party over Thanksgiving weekend and we won 2 full ham dinners for a family of 5( ingredients in a box). I've been using them to make other things like soups and raspberry sourdough sweet rolls. It came at just the right time!
I am also doing a low buy/no buy year. I have no bills besides utilities and property taxes and insurances, but I want to save up for another car when the one I have bites the dust. It should last me awhile, but I want to be prepared. Scones are very easy to make and you could probably make at least 6 for about a dollar. Make them plain or add fruit. I meant to comment on yesterday's video when you were frying the potatoes. Put a lid on them till soft then take lid off and finish browning to your liking. It goes a lot quicker. I made it through my major health issue but I spent like I was not going to be here…and I enjoyed it. Not going to lie. I’m getting back on track with you starting now!!! Amazon sometimes has what I am searching for Caregiver supplies and other items. I am grateful for this. I always look for the best price. Walmart, Target, etc. I think being grateful for everything is my mindset now. Every store has its waste and greed. It's hard to get around it. I'm happy you are back. I was searching for you.
Also doing a “no-buy” year, but here is our twist- we aren’t buying any THINGS to bring in the house, But we actually plan to spend a bit more than normal on experiences. We are going to make a game of decluttering every area of our home (1 main area per month) and going through our pantry and freezers. I over bought in 2020c and have continued to do so, and it just needs parred down. I am really lookkkg forward to a much cleaner and calmer Home…and the fun of working together, and enjoying so things, simple things like bowling, etc instead of spending it at the dollar Tree in yet more decorations, or paper craft items.
@ we are honestly looking forward to it! Explain in to our kids last night(elementary/middle school age) and they on board! Our house is generally tidy…. But we are always picking up to keep it that way. Hi dearest sister Kate! We can pay off the rest of our mortgage in 5 years if I can come up with 600 more a month. I've been trying to tweak our budget to see if we can do it. We are both retired and our mortgage is very small, less than 600 a month. We bought a fixer upper near where I grew up and moved back near my hometown from Florida two years ago. I should of done it a long time ago. I'm about done with the big corporations too. Buying local and continuing to thrift all of my clothes and home decor. Thrifting is my happy place. Love and peace!
I am doing a No Spend Year with you Kate :) The IRS would write you a letter (usually a form letter). A lot of times you might just deal with the Service Center and they may want a document to resolve something. Next would be a Correspondence Audit. There are Office Audits. If you have a business you might get a real live field auditor. Once they send out that letter requesting documents THEN they may call you to schedule a meeting (after you already have written correspondence). Also, those Tsunamis were big contributors to ocean pollution. I think stuff is still washing up from those big Tsunamis. But yes I agree we have a cultural issue (not how I grew up). Get the kids some Timberland boots. Real leather boots stretch and can last a couple of years. They also have lug soles on them (that last and provide good orthopedic support). The Kids sizes are a lot more reasonably priced. :) This way the 'tennis shoes' can be reserved for gym/exercise.
Kate, 2 months ago my dog became ill. I went to a corporate animal ER hospital…. quote was $6,440. After many tears and reaching out to moms on FB, I found a vet hospital not with a corporate chain 45 minutes away from my major city. Initial visit was $500 with meds included. I found out the corporate vet I initially went to is a German corporation who also owns numerous pet insurances, has hold of NVA who owns over 1,600 animal hospitals , and has other investments they control like Krispy Kreme Donuts. 😮 I’m absolutely with you on swaying away from corporations! They did me wrong this year and I will not forget it!

My scam is I get an email or text frequently from both Netflix (I haven’t had a subscription for years!since they still sent out the DVD’s) as well as that my Amazon Prime account/card has expired and need to update payment Nope . I have had Amazon since my son moved to Seattle 15 years ago and it always expires in May. Not December Nice try though. Looks so real! I also got scammed by a Life is Good sale ad on Instagram . The tshirts? I should have known better but did get my $42 back. Also Instagram took the as down as well as FB. Again, looked so real. Even went to the LIFE IS GOOD website No spend January for me too Stocking up in toiletries now and have already stocked our pantry freezer and frig Happy Monday Kate!
