Awesome! That Mamod runs really well. So does the Wilesco of course. The burner systems are really good. The tank in your Wilesco is a tricky number. But you made it work. The RC seems to work well. I’d make a wooden “took box”, sling it under the boiler of the Mamod, and use it to house an RC system. I love your engines Jack! 😊
Thank you for the complement. They are running extremely well, I am impressed with the gas conversion kit. I’m thinking about converting my Mamod to RC, I need to think about how I’m going to do it, and when to do it.
I remember the early Mamod solid fuel in the brown cardboard boxes burned down into a sort of black "fairy floss" type of remnant whereas the Esbit brand (all we could get here in Australia in the 80s) was really messy and gooey as you say. But the old Mamod fuel was relatively clean though personally I preferred their original methylated spirits lamps. Obviously gas conversions are the way to go these days.

Hi. I am thinking of getting a bix but was wondering what gas you use and do you need to buy the bix refill adapter to fill the tank up. I find your videos very entertaining to watch thanks
I use any butane gas canisters. It should come with a refill adapter. I think they forgot to put it in my box. It’s worth considering getting the gas conversion kit and they last longer than fuel gel and tablets. And it’s much safer. What do you think?

@ i mentioned how I’d do it in my comment. Seems straight forward. I’d band the thing onto the boiler.

Yes I’ve already fitted it. (2) I hope you will be lucky enough to find an RC traction engine from Wilesco. They are very rare.
